I think they would really try and push Jana into marriage, however useful they find her at home, before they let Joy go off and marry. Hang on guys are we sure Jana and Lawson aren't the one haha.

Well... my passport says 160m because of my shoes. I wanted it so bad to be over my real size of 158cm. Now I regret it a bit. (My self esteem got a lot better in the last years...) First & only boyfriend was 185m I think. No problem at all. :)

Hold the phone. American passports include a person's HEIGHT??

And I think you mean 160 cm, not m. And 185 cm not m!! :P:P:P

Yeah, from what I've gathered, only a very, very tiny proportion of athletes make really good money, and most of that money comes from endorsements and media appearances. For instance, there was a story a while back about an Olympic weightlifter who was on welfare despite being one of the best weightlifters in the world; contrast that with competitive strongman/fitness model/actor Hafthor Bjornsson (The Mountain on Game of Thrones), who, if his Instagram is anything to go by, lives a very nice lifestyle in Iceland and makes tons of money from appearing on Game of Thrones and endorsing various fitness products, plus his own line of t-shirts. If you want to make money in sports, you have to be a businessperson on top of being good at throwing stuff, picking stuff up, running, or not drowning. Though if you don't have much business acumen, take heart in the fact that if you're good enough at those things, you can rape people all you want and get away with it.

The minimum 2016 salary for Major League Baseball is $507,500. NBA for the just completed season was $525, 093. NFL for 2016 was $450,000 for a first year player. Those are the minimums. Most players would make more than the minimum. And many in those three sports would have got large signing bonuses when they were drafted. The signing bonuses for the 2015 MLB draft were over a million dollars until you get to the guy picked number 56, and several below him still got a million or over to sign. The first overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft got $6.5 million to sign.

You can make plenty of money in the major sports.

From looking at the MLS player salary tables, it looks like base salary can be quite low (in 2012, Jeremy's salary was $44,000), but it can be quite high, it seems, if you're well-known or really good. Jeremy's teammate, Mehdi Ballouchy, made just about 3 times more than he did.

MLS pay is low. But to make the blanket assertion that you can only make money in sports if you get endorsements and such is not accurate. The major sports in this country (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL--base of $575,000 in 2016) are very, very good money for even the lowest level players.

My husband's cousin is a Major League pitcher. His salary this year is $5.6 million. And he wasn't even a high draft pick or bonus baby (google tells me his signing bonus was only $65,000).

5 year difference between Joy and Lawson vs 7 year difference between JinJer. Though I think Joy is still very young, so I can't imagine they'd rush a courtship. Unless they have a prolonged courtship like Michael and Brandon?

Or she very well could be the next Alyssa and marry a man 5 years her senior at 19 to get the hell out of dodge.

He has to be.  He's crossing the I-40 bridge between Memphis and West Memphis, Arkansas, and unless traffic is causing him to be stopped, he has to be moving because that sign is in the midpoint of the bridge.

So that's, like, a safe thing to do?

If this was a Bates girl, people would be rhapsodizing. It is funny how the Duggar kids are gradually leaving IBLP and getting no credit.

No they're not. Jessa and Ben were pictured at Big Sandy this year. Jill and Derick attended before they went to Danger America last year. Smugs and Anna have never left the fold.

Jessa is just getting her horizons expanded a bit with Ben's Calivinist bent, and it appears that Jeremy is of that cloth as well, but I fully expect them to be at Big Sandy (and maybe another conference, maybe Nashville) in coming years.

I'm sorry, but it seems to me that if they're changing, it's in the direction of more extremity, not the other way around.

Lionel Messi, my son's favorite soccer player right now, makes somewhere around  80 MILLION, a YEAR! But he plays for Barcelona and Argentina. That's apparently where the big money is at.

One of my fave NHL players now makes 6 Mil a year, but he wasn't as concerned about money He'd rather  stay in a city he loves for 6 more years. He's 21 so we have him for a nice long time

One more note, I think JD is the only one of age at this moment in time who could have a courtship with someone who isn't really a fame-grabber. I could see him courting someone privately and I don't think it would be unusual for them not to be shown much in the show since JD wasn't really shown much. Sure, they would have their courtship story, but I think it would feel natural if they mostly took a backseat on the show.

Spoiler

I think if any of the Duggar guys court, it'll take a backseat. TLC knows the four oldest daughters + Joy bring in the ratings. They are all beautiful, young, and relatable to one of the show's core demographic---young christian  girls. Both Jill and Jessa have 1 million Instagram followers and I'm sure it won't be different when Jinger  gets one. I know this sounds harsh but JD, Joseph, and Josiah lack the sex appeal needed to garner a large audience (even though I'll admit I kind of think Joseph is cute...). I think it'll just be a blurb when any of them start courting. The producers will just focus more on Jill, Jessa, and Jinger popping out babies and their married life.

I do think Jedidiah and Jeremiah courtships will get a lot of attention. They are both lookers compared to all their brothers at 17/18. Plus, I've seen a lot of fan girl  comments the Duggar's social media pages gushing about the twins like they are  fundie Zac Efron's or Harry Styles! Also, the fanfics on Tumblr/Instagram...... It's pretty crazy

((I don't know why there is a spoiler box in the quote? sorry ))

Fan fiction about real people squicks me out so much. Granted, long before Hamilton I once wrote John Adams/Thomas Jefferson slashfic, but as a jokey sort of thing on a fanfic snark forum. But when people seriously write about real, living people having sex or very idealized relationships...ick. Apparently real people fic is one of the reasons Tom Hiddleston had to stop engaging so much with his fans, and why the actors on Supernatural got a bit more aloof -- and who can blame them? When a bunch of people send you graphic pornography about you (not your characters) having sex with your costars and then call you homophobic or a bad person or claim they'll never watch your movies/buy your stuff again if you voice your discomfort, you'd probably stop engaging so much with your fanbase. And with the Duggars, I think it's especially creepy to write fan fiction about them. And if the fics are about underage Duggars, that's really, really creepy.

German ID cards (= passport). No idea how the real travel passport looks like, I don't have one. I don't travel in countries where I need one.

Yeah, obviously cm. I'm confused with all the different sizes. I was thinking about writing m, but decided to write cm. :cray-cray:

I feel like age gaps become less relevant as couples get older and the younger partner has had a bit of time to mature into being an adult. I have a similar age gap with my boyfriend except the girl is the cradle snatcher of our relationship......I'm turning 30 this spring (Australia) and my boyfriend turned 24 in March.

Would it have worked 6 years ago? No, because as someone almost 24 and finished with a degree, I wouldn't have wanted to date someone still in high school. There is a big maturity/life experiences gap.

But 29 and 24? both with degrees, both having travelled and had life experiences?

No big deal at all, except sometimes a few of my pop culture references are lost on him (but that's also partially because I grew up in Australia and he in France).

Apparently it's a thing now for people to write rpf's about a historical figure (and maybe current celebrities?) and themselves. A few of the history blogs I follow mentioned it and it seriously blows my mind. John Laurens seems to be the current favorite for that type of fic.

I try to cut fanfic writers a lot of slack because I know a lot of them are really young, and I can see how writing that type of fanfic can be...cathartic maybe? But there needs to be at least a few hard lines and real people should be one of them.

I think the more extremity part of Ben and Jessa is because they are trying to out prophet their parents.  They both claim (more Ben - then Jessa) that they will do things differently.  Yet, maybe they meant rapping opposed to normal cookie cutter things

I don't really read much of it anymore because I got old and don't have the time, but I quite enjoy some Harry Potter fan fiction. I used to read a lot of it a few years ago. Some of it is truly brilliantly written and makes you feel like JK Rowling gave us more books about the future or 'side' stories to be glimpses of things that were only touched briefly on in the books). I read a really amazing one once about Ron and Hermione struggling with their marriage when their kids were young and working through it and another favourite was one which told the whole story of Draco and Hermione ended up falling in love and Draco being disowned by his family as a result (this was when I was in high school so before the 6th/7th books came out and we knew the ending). They were genuinely great stories about characters and a 'world' I loved.

JK Rowling has said she has no problem with innocent fan fiction about the characters. She has said doesn't like the pornographic stuff but she doesn't demand it be removed from the internet or anything.

But I draw the line at fan fiction about real people. That's just really weird.

But I don't feel weird liking a fan written story about Hermione and Draco or Ron because they are stories based on fictional characters and not real people with real relationships/lives/families. It is why I have no problem with people writing Harry/Draco fan fiction but I do have a problem with Daniel Radcliffe/Tom Felton fan fiction. Harry and Draco are not real people, Tom and Daniel are.

Also I really hate authors of 'real person slash' who act like anyone who feels uncomfortable with it must be homophobic. I'm not at all homophobic but I'd be creeped out if someone was writing lesbian fan fiction about me and a woman who is a costar or a friend of mine. Not because of the lesbian aspect but because of the 'writing graphic sexual content about me and someone I know in person' element. That is WEIRD and would quite rightly squick me out. I'd feel he same if it was written about men I know.

I can see the possibility of a double wedding. The Kendall sisters, Lise (a Morton groom's wife) and Prentiss, shared weddings. It would draw in ratings. And think of all the scripted hijinks that could occur.

Many moons ago, a friend & I wrote stories about ourselves & our favorite celebrities @ the time. Nowadays I suppose it'd be called fan fiction. I didn't think it was weird (ok, maybe a wee bit) or squicky, but we did it for fun & our own personal enjoyment. Once the internet became The Big Thing, we didn't publish our works online (thankfully).

That's a good point...how squicky it is probably has a lot to do with how public it all is now. Teens fantasizing about the favorite celebrities via fics they share with their friends has a much different ring than fic published on fanfic sites and tagged so that others can find it.

My friend and I, at about age 14, wrote fan fic about Dark Shadows. We made it very racy, or racy for two of us and our complete lack of experience, cable tv and the internet!

The same friend & I did a story about us & vampires, too, but in the Anne Rice vampire genre. It was fun, & I do think about the stories from time-to-time.  ;)
