I don't think it's a real AA degree. I think it's a fundie qualification, not recognized in the real world.

That probably doesn't matter for getting hired at a day care center that only requires a highschool degree.  But she isn't going to leave him and get a job.  Not for a long time, anyway.

On the work front, how is it ok that the J'Slaves be friends with Sierra Jo Dominguez who seemingly actually brings in money for her family, if not via wedding planning which I am guessing is not paid, but via her chocolate covered fruit business, but the J'Slaves and Anna can't do something like that? Not to say that will support any of them and their 10-20 future kids.... but it's something.

Because it's an "approved profession." Women in Gothardism are allowed to work some as long as they are wives and mothers first (or dutiful SAHDs if unmarried). However, they can only work certain types of jobs and they cannot be the breadwinners, obviously (because baby Jesus REALLY wouldn't like that). Sierra is allowed to sell her chocolate-covered strawberries for the same reason Jill is allowed to be a midwife, Michael Keilen was a nanny, Erin Paine is a piano teacher and sells her CDs, Sarah Maxwell writes her Moody books, some fundie girls/women sell home-sown clothes online, etc. etc.

The odds of Josh disappearing from public life has as much a chance of happening as Anna walking out. They need money and the media will be ready to fork over cash for exclusives. Then he'll do the "I have repented/Jesus saved me" tour for the next few years, write a book and then follow Jill down to Central America to start a ministry.

His first television appearance will be on fox news, possibly Megyn Kelly (now with short hair!). Anna will sit next to him and stare with dead eyes and a smile, likely holding the baby. He will then announce his book on 700 club with plans to start an online ministry.

I dont know that people will cover him but may cover Anna.

My dream is that during the Today show interview (or Faux News), Anna announces that she is going to leave him and announces her crowdfunding site so that she can go to college to get a degree in social work or something to help other people caught in fundamentalist cults.

Chance of this happening, about 3%, but a girl can dream.

I am quite aware of "approved professions" but my point was the Duggar girls don't seem allowed to do even those.

What's with the passive aggressiveness? I simply answered your question.

Gothard-type moms are also required to homeschool their children full-time, never use daycare, and to constantly be pregnant (and then nurse infants).  That really limits what kind of 'career' they can have.

She was named after one of David's wives, but the Bateses backtracked when they realized the story behind the name and now call her Michaela (said like My-kuhl-uh).

Hr parents named her Michal, and a few months later, they changed their minds because they thought Michal wasn't a good example. Changing the name more than 3 letters costed money and they couldn't pay it (or didn't want to, is gil the grifter), so they named her michael, and because jender rolls, they call her michaella.

My question wasn't why the Duggar girls don't have regular jobs, it was why they can't have a Gothard approved job a la Sierra Jo. I have spent hours and hours and hours reading all of these threads to keep up to date and know these things, and gone into hours long rat-holes off site into fundie blogs, so I'd like it to be known that I'm on top of it.

Did you see that Anna put baby Meredith in pants! See photo and article hyperlinked here. The picture is from Amy Duggar's (Amy King) Instagram. Maybe Anna is getting sick and tired of following all those silly rules like females must wear only dresses or modest skirts. Maybe it's just because Meredith is still a baby and cannot "defraud any men" with the skin of her lower legs yet. Either way it's different. Maybe it's a little rebellion at their strict and meaningless rules.

Well, that settles it.  No need to pay taxes or save money or educate my young'uns.  End times coming soon and I'm gonna be raptured.  Best go get my hair done so I look nice for Jesus.

I wonder if it was Anna who dressed the baby that way or Amy.  Maybe it is because I don't think those baby jeans are practical for diaper changing, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was a case of Amy dressing Meredith for fun while babysitting or even while visiting with Anna.  It could have been an "I will show you how cute a little girl can look in jeans," thing and they were all laughing and agreeing because it is like dressing the baby in a costume, isn't it?  Anyway, we will know for sure if we ever see Meredith in pants again.

The giant bow and the shoes with flowers make me think it was Anna. But who knows. I don't put too much weight on this. Now if I saw Anna in pants...I'd be a bit more impressed.

Golly! Let us all bow down to jglgoblue's infinite wisdom and knowledge about all things Duggar!

What's up with people getting super offended about the most innocuous things tonight? Like someone's a little bit sarcastic, or misunderstands a question, and we've got people reacting like they just told them their mother was a hamster and their father smelt of elderberries. Is there something in the water, or is it a full moon, or what?

Oh my gosh seriously it's spread out across like six threads. I'd rather read eighty pages of Caillou drift than everyone tearing each others' throats out over forum posts.

My bad. Sorry for indulging above poster's passive aggressiveness. I'll show myself out. :pb_redface:

You are most definitely not the problem here!

Back to Anna doing daycare. (I tried to quote someone up thread for 2 days on my PC but it keeps circling on this thread, hopefully posting from my phone will break the problem on my PC)

She can't do daycare. All women stay home in their circle and if they do work it is a cottage industry. Secondly, she would have to take in kids that belong to worldy, "ungodly" women like many of us here on FJ and we would be bad influences on her spirtuality. Plus she is a woman, she can't possibly run a household and earn money to support the family herself! (I need the smellin' salts, I declare us delicate woman can't do all that!)

*note, that is what the Duggars and kellers, et al, would say. I would tell her to accept her brothers help.

Now that Anna's husband is being sued by a porn star maybe she will rethink her brother's offer and leave.  Suze, Daniel and Rebekah all live in the real word.  They can help her acclimatize and get some money paying skills.  My heart goes out to Anna.  No one deserves this.

I totally agree. I wonder when they found out about the suit.....maybe Anna has known for awhile. Gotten used to more grief from Joshley.

My heart goes out to her too, and to the Mkids.

I can only wish that Anna would gather her children, walk out the door and never look back.  But I think she is fully convinced that leaving would ruin her children's live and endanger her soul.
