I don't know if the timing works for that blind item and Oprah/Duggars. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

OWN didn't exist until 2011. The whole Oprah fiasco and Duggar specials started back in 2006. The regular show kicked off in '09. I don't think they would have been cross promoting OWN before it was conceived.

Unless Harpo somehow knew they were gonna give the Duggars a slew of specials.

The timing works for the Willis Family and it would have been a predictable crossover. At least 6 responses were the Willis family. I wonder why they would refuse the Duggars?

There were a few responses that said the Willis family and that makes more sense to this gossip. It says a crossover show and the offer was declined a few months ago. Oprah's interview was suppose to be 9 years ago and would not be a crossover show. I could see the Willis family during their first season to be asked to meet the Duggars in a crossover episode. So does anyone know a connection between these families? I saw the Willis family on AGT and read their story and decided I did not want to watch another TLC big family show. Is there any way the Willis family would have known about Josh? or have a dislike for the Duggars?

The Willis family could have been trying to dig up dirt on the Duggars for awhile and they could have stumbled onto the molestation rumors that had been discussed online in the past. From there, they could have dug deeper, into seeing, if there was truth ,to the rumors and maybe somehow they stumbled the police report. The Willis family, IIRC made some jab recently about the Duggars. I can't remember what it was, but It was mentioned somewhere in the Duggars vs. Willis thread. The Willis family is different in some ways than the Duggars. They are less conservative and they do things that the Duggars won't do. The Willis family would have reason to dislike the Duggars because they are in a way competing with them even though they are on the same network.

It might be bigger. Things are different now than they were in the 80s. The PTL scandal was covered by TV news media back then, but it eventually died down. These days, the media extends to the Internet and social media. I'm looking at twitter and Josh is still getting slammed there. Various sites are still going to be posting articles on this for the next several days.

Jim and Tammy Faye did some shitty things, but they didn't cover up child molestation for years. I think both of them redeemed themselves to an extent. I know it sounds crazy, but I liked Tammy Faye. She wasn't a hateful and conceited bitch like Michelle. She wasn't going around trying to deny the LGBT communities of civil rights. Tammy was a huge supporter of the gay community and she attributed that because a gay relative of hers committed suicide.

I can't see JB, Michelle, or Boob doing anything to truly redeem themselves. I wouldn't trust Josh completely.

This is sickening. And probably pretty telling. In Tuesday's episode Digging in with the Duggars at approximately 30:30:00 when Jessa is discussing revealing the sex of their baby, Josh says, "I don't think you can keep a secret." And then wiggles his eyebrows in a hubba hubba sort of way. And she replies, "The dare is on..." Two days later this all surfaces. I hope in some sort of way she is behind the release of this info. Vindication. The dare is on, Joshy. Karma. :evil-eye:

In 16 Kid and Moving in! he had his own AV room but I don't think he actually had his own bedroom ever as he is shown with his brothers presenting the boys' room

My dad first mentioned this to me yesterday. He never really watched the show, but my mom did and we would talk on the phone while watching, and even watch it together, just to snark. My dad clearly doesn’t know the Duggar clan so well, but he knows we watch. He sent me a link yesterday and I couldn’t believe it. I’ve been working like crazy this week (extra hours and more), so I didn’t come on Freejinger until today.

Now, I’ve been on here all day and really really trying to keep up. But more than 80 pages. Guys…. Sorry couldn’t read it all. I really wanted to read as much info on the subject to get a clear opinion. Now, more than 24 hours after the scandal has blown up, I still don’t know what to think. I just can’t wrap my head around it. I mean, ofc, I thought of the victims. My heart aches for them. Like… literally. I feel this huge knot in my chest, like someone was pulling my heart. If I think too much about these girls and how they must be feeling, I think I’m gonna cry. :cry:

I apologize for nor having read all the posts, I am traveling and have poor internet.

I want to start by saying I have no sympathy for adult Josh AT ALL. He worked at a hate group trying to take rights away from other people. As an adult he could at any time gotten treatment for his past actions and sincerely addressed them but did not. He caused great damage to young girls who will livewith that damage for the rest of their lives even if they get the professional help that so far they have not. As an adult he deserves ever bad thing that comes his way.

I do have sympathy for the teen aged Josh. He was raised in a cult with a damaging view of sexuality. He was taught that any expression of sexuality outside of marriage was sinful. As he moved into adolescence he was told that touching himself was sinful and wicked.

Sexual expression is a basic part of human existence, it is one of our strongest drives. Telling a young person that they cannot express that in any way will lead to a warped and twisted view of something that is natiral and healthy. If Josh had been told that sexual feelings are normal, that exploring his body is healthy and good, he MAY have been able to enter adulthood without hurting the girls around him. I blame Gothard and his parents for destroying him and the other children in this cult.

Also, unless we think is just a bad seed who was born a pedophile, his actions had to come from somewhere. Prediphiles were often victims of abuse,themselves. Did someone molest Josh? JB or another adult? It would not surprise me. He never got the counseling that could have helped and and maybe exposed a person who preyed on him.

I was abused as a child although in a milder way than many other girls. I did not admit it was abuse until I explored it with a therapist. I just though my father was overly friendly when he was drunk and that sloppy mouth kisses and touches were his way showing love. He was also raised a very conservative Christianhome and taught that all sexual expression outside of marriage was dirty and sinful.

I doubt the Duggars will answer the hard questions, even if the show gets Canceled..

I just assumed that the Duggars r cray cray, but now the whole world knows how truly messed up they are..

I really feel for the Victims. From now on they will be know as such, and josh aint going to Jail and people are praising him..

Didn't JB take Josh to the cops? Albeit long after the problem started, but why go to the cops at all if ur planning on keeping it hush hush? Yeah he took him to familiar face, but a report was taken and legal action wasnt taken cuz They refused to produce josh for further interview and eventually time ran out to actually do something. .

Did he take Josh to Scare him? I dunno, dont most Fundies deal with that sort if stuff themselves

I'm sorry to nitpick, but this is something that I've seen quite a bit lately that has really been bothering me. I mean, what are they supposed to do? I keep on seeing all of this stuff elsewhere where the victims are "acting like nothing happened". It's not like they're going to post pictures on instagram about their very personal, very haunting past. I think it's appropriate that they have posted pictures of themselves together (Jill and Jessa). If anything, that shows strength to me. It shows that they're sticking together as sisters and that they have each other's backs even with everything that has been happening. These past few days have probably been some of the worst for them, what with having to relive something that they've probably either suppressed or have been brainwashed to forgive and forget. But as victims, they don't owe anybody the satisfaction of showing any sort of reaction (which I might add, should not be satisfying to anyone).

So no, I highly doubt they're "acting like nothing happened" in their real lives. However, the way that they are reacting to all of this is no one's business. I know FJ is for being snarky and nosy, and normally that's all fine and dandy but this is not a normal situation. I don't so much care about Josh's privacy right now, but if anyone, the victims deserve the utmost respect and privacy during this time.

Never thought I would defend a Duggar. Guess there's a first for everything.

ETA-I just want to be clear that I'm not trying to attack you or anything, VapingindaCity. Sorry if it comes off that way. I just wanted to address something specific that I've seen in a lot of places that might be a misinterpretation to the pictures that Jill and Jessa have posted lately.

It was stated in the police report that JimBob chose the policeman because he knew him. Apparently, he was the policeman in charge of inspecting used car salesmen.

Probably, he wanted Josh to be scared into not doing doing it again. (But that is not how it works, obviously. Therapy would have been a much better idea. However, maybe being scared to do it again would at least somewhat protect the sisters.) I doubt JimBob knew about the child pornography.

The more this stuff gets talked about and the more I think about these young ladies, the more I just want to curl up into a ball and cry. They deserve to be happy and healthy, not to have suffered such abuse and then to have their deepest darkest secret made public for the world to see.

Don't get me wrong, Joshua needed to get caught, and since he cannot get jail time now unless he does it again (which no one wants), he deserves any punishment he gets in the form of backlash. But what is this going to cost the girls? How must they feel right now? Could they feel like the most horrible thing that ever happened to them has come back to haunt them? More so than it already did? Are they being forced to relive it?

I really hope those girls are okay and someone is seeing to their needs right now. I hope that none of them feels like it's too much and does something drastic. I hope someone is making sure they are safe.

Still shocked and unable to comment, but I will try.

I do think it is wrong to down play what has happened in this family, but I can understand some of their actions better now (dorms instead of single rooms, the parents are hypocrates not questioning this, but maybe in their "culture" / "subculture" it is possible to move on through faith. Religion can be a way to cope with terrible things (ok, maybe not so much the "I am a sinner" part in this case). I just remembered the movie "Amish grace" and they were able to handle things their way.

I could not do it, but I can see Jill the perfect biblical woman (...) in a state of mind to truely believe in repentence and forgiveness (Especially if she is the untouched sister).

I am as old as Jana and feel truely sorry for her, she was the oldest - molested or not - she was the most aware of what Josh's actions meant and maybe has the clearest memory.

As for the show, I guess there are possibilities to get the brand back and keep the sponsors (or get different sponsors, as was mentioned Christian organizations or a Christian network), but the focus should be on one of the girl's families - Jill and Derrick mission spin off maybe. I think they truely believe in what they are doing (less hypocrazy here... well, Jill is not the most reflected person).

No one mentioned the lost girls so far - do you think they understand what is going on, or what happened to their sisters?

I am confused and so many questions are emerging right now.
