Speak for yourself, please. If I were at an event and I had reason to believe someone was filming my children with a hidden camera, I would have them escorted off the premises, too. Imagine if this were flipped around: a fundie crashes a gay pride event and approaches the children of a gay couple to ask 'the tough questions' while wearing a spy pen to gather video and audio to report back to their fundie message board.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm not snarking at anyone about snarking on fundies. I'm questioning the wisdom of using a spy camera to record minor children.

But to be fair, sometimes I wonder why I post here as well. I'm most definitely not a fan of fundies, but I'm not a fan of bullshit in general.

The baby is moved to the appropriate jender room, once they're weaned. Maybe six months? I'd be very resentful of my parents if I were the older girls. I doubt that a male newborn goes into the boy's room, for them to tend to. That's why God gave these idiots a bunch of girls in a row. To raise the siblings below them.

Except that in one episode we saw a young Jackson sleeping in the girls' room, so do they take care of all the little ones? Or maybe Jackson just wandered in there, who knows. My brother did that when we were all little. My sister and I shared a room and I guess my brother didn't want to be alone.

I agree that the older siblings probably get up in the night with the younger ones though. Even now they could still be doing that. If a younger kid has a nightmare and is scared, I doubt JB or Michelle get up to go comfort them. One of the eldest kids tells them there aren't any monsters and tucks them back in.

I think that's what would be one of the biggest downsides of having your children be any sort of celebrity. Particularly a reality show celebrity. Your entire family earns their living by being popular with the public. So you have to be out there in public, even the little kids. But there are actual scary freaks out there ( not FMj) who probably write you all kinds of creepy letters or threaten your family or want to take your children home as pets. So you'd probably be extra nervous about any questions that sound like they are trying to find out to much about the children.

When Josie first came home and then had to be rushed back to the hospital, weren't some of the older girls up with her in the middle of the night and weren't they the ones who called 911? I don't know for sure, but I remember at the time being struck by the idea that it was the girls who noticed that the baby was in trouble. Can anyone remember for sure?

That is so selfish of them. If they really wanted a parent to go with the other kids, they should have had only one of them go and the other stay at home with Josie

If I recall Michelle stayed home from any of the big trips the first year or two after Josie was born. I think the first big trip she went on was to the Middle East, with Josie along, and then she and Jana had to stay longer because Josie got ill and couldn't fly.

Totally. Not disagreeing with any of that. The irony is that the Duggars in particular actually use their children to perpetuate their fame/show. It would have died a welcome death if it was The Jim-Bob and Michelle show for sure. The show is built on the mundane of their kids every day life. I have seen inside the mouths of every one of those kids at some point. Does that make it ok for freaky fans or scary weirdos to write creepy letters? No. Naive though for them or anybody else who exposes their kids to not realise it may happen. I think initially I thought it was a bit weird FMJ tried to film them covertly but based on what she said she genuinely just wanted to record it for non nefarious reasons as misguided as that was. Don't think her intention was to ever ask any tough questions of minors anyway.

For somebody though to then try and equate that to somebody filming their non-famed out for money kids well sure that would be freaky, I don't use my child as a vehicle for fame or TV so sure I would be freaked out if I found somebody covertly filming her, but it is hardly the same thing.

The OP recently just appears to constantly apologise for them or attempt to tell others they are wrong for doing so. Yes, Michelle and Jim Bob were out of the country IIRC when Josie had to be hospitalized. I think they were in South America thinking government meetings there were more important than staying with Josie. We had film of Jana and Jill in the hospital room with Josie and the parents on the phone.

And then what? You admitted everything? They don't have a right to search you, neither would the cops without an actual reason, and asking a question isn't enough.

One of the crew saw my pen clipped to the baby carrier. He asked about it, and I said it was a pen. I was going to use it for autographs. Jana had used it at one point to sign a book for a man. I had seen the book was 20 dollars and I didn't know if book sales went to the Duggars or the hospital so I decided against it.

Later, I tried to find my friend as she had disappeared for good thirty minutes. I went behind the building where the bathrooms were and there she was. Then we were cornered by the crew and the police. The crew guy asked to trade pens, and I didn't want to refuse with the cops there. They held us behind the building until the crew and one cop came back. Then they said it was illegal to have it, I swore I didn't know that. The crew guy said they were using it against me as evidence. The cops led us back to the car, asked bajillion questions. They finally gave me a citation for harassment and let us go.

Where I sometimes have a problem is when people lump every single thing they do as bad. Like having a fundraiser yard sale for a hospital. Or having rumors where taking any sign of affection between families might mean incest.

I think that sort of thing really defeats the purpose. For example, I think it was you who had the big to-do with Valsa over smacking a kid once ( huge apologies if I have the wrong person ! ) . To me, lumping in everyone who has ever whacked their kid on the butt for running into traffic with the kind of systemic, ritualized, severe abuse advocated by the Pearls is not only ridiculous....but it completely ruins the message.

And some of the speculation about serious topics like incest, based on nothing, can be actually damaging to people. For example if some neighbor googles Smuggar and an incest or molestation accusation crops up, that could impact his kids ability to have friends over.

Very good points. I suppose I tend to skip the minutiae posts as they are not my thing. Same with the 'are the Duggars happy' type thing because I just think who knows, well to be honest I think who cares. I just don't mind those that like to pick all these things apart unless as you said it gets a bit stupid. The recent Arndt thread being a prime example. Generally though I always find there is always someone willing to bring a bit of balance to the over the top.

I also have no issue with saying Erin looks great in a photo or he's a great looking guy etc. I'm not into wedding registries but that is harmless stuff to ponder. You are right there is a generalisation in regards to OH but they WILL beat their kids you know. Again who knows. I don't wish to labour the point and appear offensive in regard to the OP's posts it has just struck me recently and not in regards to generalisation of the nature you mention. Probably because when the OP asked what was wrong with meeting your life partner via like minded families getting together I said nothing except when that is the only option open to you. I suppose I just can't suspend my disdain for their beliefs. The very fact that the excuse that they were brought up that way and need a pass on their beliefs in their twenties shows how damaging and limiting their parents doctrine is. If in your twenties you do not have a sense of self and the intellect and confidence to question EVERYTHING in life and live and learn from it, you know you are living by the will of someone else. Parents. When does their pass stop? After they picket abortion clinics? After they lobby against gay rights? Tough one.

Hehe yes why I am the abusing Mother from hell. It did not matter that OH at least 5 or 6 folks had said the same thing. I was super speshul and Valsa went for it. Valsa was just a bully in some situations which I told her openly here a few times. Dunno. Think she got off on it. It was fun though, I rarely if ever get angry or emotional when posting so I just carried on answering relentlessly. She did have some good insights also Valsa, but her extreme views and judgements did her no favours at times, basically because if you called her on it she would go quiet for long periods. I do though miss her. Never ever boring.

ETA sorry for rambling. LONG day and it's nearly 3am just destressing after a 13 hour shift and 22 cases of possible Norovirus (possibly) which whatever way you look at it is a lot of shit :lol:

Let's be honest here. This was not John and Jane Doe having a yard sale to raise a little money for the NICU that saved their 24 week old preemie and they were thankful and giving back the only way they could.

If the Duggars really wanted to give back to the hospital, they could pry open their wallet and write them a check, no minor kids or the public involved. They can't do that, though, because then people would realize they actually have money and aren't still "buying used and saving the difference" (which we all know they haven't been doing for years, anyway). They also couldn't film that.

Two things to quickly add to posts made above:

1. Jill made the 911 call while Mullet remained at Josie's side.

2. I'm almost positive that it was Jill, not Jana, stayed in Israel with Mullet when Josie got sick there. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm too lazy to slog though the episode on YouTube.

I am curious when he actually returned to DC to, well you know, WORK. He posted pics from Arkansas on Monday, but I haven't checked his IG for a couple of days so he could still be there for all I know. This is at least his second vacaycay since mid-June; however, I do think the Reagan ranch/library bit was for business. Those people worship the ground upon which St. Ronnie walked. Nice "work" if you can get it, I suppose.

Josie had to go to hospital more than once though. She went back to the NICU while they were still in Little Rock and also had to be taken in while Jim Bob and Michelle were away.

IIRC, she went back to the NICU after the 911 call because her O2 levels were so low.

Josie has been hospitalized 4 times:

1. Time of her birth, born at UAMS, transferred to ACH later.

2. She was released in April of 2010, then a few days later, she went into distress at their rented home in Little Rock. Jill called 911, Michelle stayed with Josie, while relaying the answers to the operator's questions to Jill.

3. She was hospitalized while Michelle and Jim Bob were in Central America trying to get the government to make adoption laws easier or something like that. She had a febrile seizure, very common, but scary for anyone. Jana and Jill called 911 and John David commented on how his first responder pager went off and it took him a moment to understand it was his own address on his pager. Michelle and Jim Bob flew home the next day I think???

4. She was hospitalized on the Israel trip and Jill and Michelle remained behind in Israel with her for a week I think before returning home to NW Arkansas.

Oh I totally get that it's not the same thing as a regular family having a yard sale. It's one of many reasons I think reality shows, just by their very nature, are horrible for the children. I'm just saying that given their situation I would probably be concerned if someone was seeming a little too close to the kids. You would expect people to be curious and talking to them, but if it was too many questions from the same person, or the questions seemed off..I would get very nervous.

Fundraiser s are important to charities not just for the actual cash, its the awareness ( which equals more cash from more donors ) that's a big plus. Sometimes an actual event won't even raise much, but the publicity means lots of money.
