19 Kids and Counting 2013 - The Duggars do Part 3

The other day I watched the episode where they go to Israel. Those older girls are definitely starved for interaction with anyone outside of their duggar-bubble. At the dead sea 2 of the girls started talking with a man and they seemed delighted to be having a conversation, when of course Dumb-Bob zooms over and announced that he was their father and telling the camera crew that he was protecting them in case the man had any "bad intentions" - these people are sick...

Jimbob did the right thing, Israeli men love women (or men) , sex is our hobby! I dont think he is sick, only he is so protective from fear that they will like men too much before they get married. Poor girls!

When the only conversations they have are with eachother and their idiot parents, I am not suprised. Im not even a very sociable person and I would be desperate for interaction with anyone if the other alternative was talking to Jimbob and Michelle.

I would consider that a fairly good sign, if they are willing to socialise with other people who arent approved by their parents...means they could get talking to someone who is really nice, and then later find out they are gay, or an atheist, and realise that their parents bigotry was wrong. If Jimbob didnt drag them away from talking to anyone he hasnt personally interviewed and done a background check on, anyway.

Sorry for posting again, but the more I think about it, the more angry I get. You've got to be pretty narcissistic to think that you rightfully own your daughters' minds, hearts and bodies. He has literally and figuratively has enslaved his daughters, all under the ruse of protection and love.

It makes me sick. I am literally shaking at the injustice of it all.

Well, not really, LITERALLY enslaved them. They are adults, they do have a great deal of access to the outside world. They may feel they can't leave, but they could if they wanted to.

LITERALLY enslaved would be if they were locked in cages, or guarded by security who censored there every word and beat them if they so much as talked to the film crew . I think they would be better off if they were treated like actual adults, and they certainly have been led to feel they need to stay home until marriage -- but LITERALLY enslaved is something truly horrible, and it happens, so I don't think it is a reasonable comparison.

Okay, so I looked at Wikipedia (no, I don't normally use Wiki to support my arguments but in this case, it suits my theory bc it's late and I'm beat):

"Slavery is a system under which people are treated as property to be bought and sold, and are forced to work."

They are treated as property.

JB "bought" them at birth.

JB owns their hearts under he transfers his authority over his daughter to her husband.

JB owns their minds, deciding what his daughters can study, learn, read, who they can and cannot talk to, what they look at on the internet, etc.

JB owns their bodies by enforcing a vow of chastity, demanding they dress a certain way, influencing the way they wear their hair to the point that they believe it's it's best for him to determine how they style it, requiring a "buddy" if they want to run an errand, etc.

JB owns their future, preventing them from pursuing "worldy" activities such as going to the movies and keeping them very much to the side of what is "typical" or common for people of similar gender and age in their region of the country.

JB will "sell them" to the highest/only bidder he deems best, measured by their standards of godliness. Until then, they live under his microscope and live as "daughters".

Lastly, JB/Michele do force them to work. Does anyone really think that they would all be mothering and taking complete care of that house and family responsibilities by choice?

So, yes, they are "literally" slaves.

Bottom line, I am not comparing atrocities of historical slavery. So these caveats apply:

- Just because it doesn't look like the slavery of the 1500-1800s in America doesn't mean the definition doesn't fit.

- Heck, some (not many, but some) slaves during colonial times - what most Americans think of when you use the word "slavery" - lived in the manor home, ate at a table, were educated, wore lovely clothing, were allowed to sing, dance, relax and talk with others, had healthcare, or were left money/freedom in wills, etc.

- However, MOST of them were kept in tatters, worked to the bone, beat for even thinking about thinking for themselves, locked up, etc.

- I just wanted to point out that there are levels in either direction, and that the Duggar daughters are kept from life experiences because their father controls every. little. thing.

No, there is a HUGE difference. If they left they would be perfectly, legally free to do so. Slaves are not free to do so. Not under historical slavery, and not under current modern day human trafficing.

Their parents would be upset, no doubt. They might lose contact with most or all of their family, but they could walk away at any event or on a trip to Wal-mart and there is nothing anyone could do about it.

Under historical slavery that would be illegal and they could be forcibly returned. Under current human trafficing they would be kept under LITERAL lock and key and get the shit beat out of them if they tried to escape - and often have the threat of deportation hanging over their heads, as frequently human trafficing involves buying and selling people across borders. They also aren't being kept in a dungeon as a sex slave by someone who kidnapped them off the street.

They are overly sheltered from the world for sure, and have taken on way too many responsibilities for their younger siblings - but those things aren't even in the same universe of actual LITERAL slavery.

Yeah, they could have a better life I'm sure - but to state outright that they have it as bad or worse as actual LITERAL slaves is just ridiculous.

Of course it is an emotionally manipulative system, but that is not the same as a system that holds adults literally captive by physical force against their will.

your heart and mind can't really be owned unless you let them be.

Not if youve been brainwashed from birth to believe that you need to let your parents have your heart and mind or bad things will happen to you. Theyve been taught that this is what God wants, and that they would go to Hell for eternity if they defied their parents or didnt obey any of these rules. From birth, they are trained to be like this, and theyve not known anything different other than that their parents control them. Theyve been taught that people who do have freedom are evil and going to Hell, and that their lifestyle is superior as they are the holy ones. They dont realise that you can be a true Christian and wear pants, dance and date. Theyve been taught that if they left, their life on the outside will be far worse (probably true, in a way, cause they have to earn their own money and no more trips...but things will get better). Theyve been taught that the only people they can trust are people who live exactly like them, and that Christians cant be evil or abusive (even though the majority of fundies are child abusers and their cult is run by a pervert)

Theyre so emotionally abused that they dont realise that they have control over their own lives.

Just saw on Facebook that they went to Puerto Rico and there is going to be a VSE hour long episode - what next? At least Dumb-Bob can speak 2 words of spanish! :music-tool:

Only Ma & Pa Duggar went to Puerto Rico, right? How on earth can they get an hours worth of footage out of that?

There's got to be a courtship/engagement/adoption (shudder)/pregnancy (shudder shudder) announcement to make it a VSE.

Unless its a "Farewell from the Duggars" VSE!!!!!

Noooooooooooooo please dont let them adopt :( No child deserves that. Its like transferring them to a different and far less safe orphanage. That poor, poor child :(

Maybe they could show what the kids are doing while their parents are away. Michelle and Jimbob happy on vacation, relaxing, while a stressed out miserable looking Jslave cooks dinner with a screaming toddler wrapped around her legs, while another chases Howlers around the house and tries to stop them breaking things, while an unsupervised small child plays on the stairs.

I think it will be an hour of their "ministry" to teach the rest of the world how to have a happy marriage. Lots of Michelle simpering, JBoob bragging, and crude PDAs. Plus Michelle will demonstrate proper swimwear to the women of the world, and they can wander around the town near wherever they are and insult the locals. Maybe also shop for a child.

Two hours of a VSE of the horniest man alive sucking his wife's face and defrauding everyone with his vomit-inducing PDA and crude jokes--no thank you.

Boob can ask people to back-o out of the way-o and tell stories in English to kids who only speak Spanish. I'd say then maybe some wild animal could come up and rip him apart, but I don't want the poor thing to get AquaNet poisoning.

I have friends who are on their way back home from Big Sandy right now. On their FB page they have NOT once mentioned anything to do with a Duggar. I found that interesting, seeing they are ATI superstars and so many of them! Apparently, my friends have other things to do there with other people!

Do we know that a) They were there at the same time; B) That Joe made it thru? I'd have put money on him winning the star recruit award just so Gothard would get more free publicity from TLC.

Really? Even if they've been brainwashed since birth or through constant supervision/reprogramming/isolating?

What about this girl? Surely she would have said NO unless she "really wanted" to?

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17176

Or the Duggars putting the kibash on any thought not in line with what they want for their children?

This is about as literal as you can get without physical chains. If your mind is imprisoned, your body might as well be, too.

Isn't tonight the marriage retreat episode? I doubt they'd be able to present another hour of that sort of thing and get people to watch. If Michelle's pregnant they'd want the whole family there for the 'surprise' announcement. Courtship/Engagement seems vaguely possible (I can picture an awkward couple having to watch Jim Bob and Michelle's PDAs every five minutes while they're not allowed to touch). Adoption seems most likely, but I hope not. It must be something beyond pushups, lattes, and haircuts though or they wouldn't be giving it an hour. Could the general fundie silence lately of families seen on the show be related?

I feel like if it were something 'huge' like an adoption or a courtship, TLC would be pimping this episode wayyyy more than they are. Personally I wouldn't expect to see anything other than more of the usual PDAs and 'sage' marital advice from Michelle and Jim Bob. Why TLC thinks any of this is interesting is beyond me.

I think this is just your standard 19kac episode. It's an hour because they ponied up for the "retreat.". It will be a squicktastic snooze fest.

No way will I watch this one.

I will watch it for you and provide a play by play. Unfortunately I'm away from home so it will be via tapatalk, which is hard!
