How long until all the fundy blogs are aflame over Obama?

Translated: I only watch Fox news so I never heard of him until he was nominated.

Didn't most of us become aware of him when he gave that kick ass speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention?

Now that mental midget, Bristol Palin, is weighing in on President Obama's support of same sex marriage.

http://bitchmagazine.org/post/bristol-p ... m-politics

Jah sure the entire Palin family has really shown America how they value family. Mom and Dad shot gun marriage, brother shotgun marriage, Bristol a drunken bout of unprotected sex, and a tell all book about it.

How I wish the Palins would all just go away.

Ummm....this is going to get petty way too fast.

Vastly. Typing too fast, or chalk it up to Freudian slip.

Please explain why you think Obama "waited so long" to release his birth certificate when he released the document every other HI-born American would use to establish citizenship in 2008.

Right.

I was a bit ahead of the game, he'd had some press in labor and organizing circles nationally and he was testing the waters at some national union conventions before the 2004 convention . Remember he was an ebil community organizer who :o quoted Saul Alinsky.

Me, too. I grew up in a town with people just like the Palins-uneducated, petty, vindictive, bigoted, etc. The Palins remind me why I escaped soon after high school graduation.

He released the document that any other citizen would use to establish citizenship get a US passport. during his campaign. Why did suspicion continue after that, and after an independent fact checking organization AND the Repub governor of HI verified that it was legit. Please explain that. There was no guarantee that anything would silence the crazy, luckily the long form did drive it out of the mainstream news because Fox News hasn't completely succeeded in mainstreaming the crazy.

That document was reproduced across a variety of media and made public, as were his full CV and birth announcement. But none of that was good enough for Faux tv and they just continued to stir the birther pot.

It happens. Please don't judge me for my grammar errors either. I don't have the time to proofread.

It is always good politics to be transparent quickly. One of my best friends who worked on Clark campaign in 2004 (surprisingly, he is a fundie and leads in a seriously fundie church, and yet won't vote for Mitt Romney because he's Mormon...these people do exist) and was literally screaming into radio "RELEASE THE CERTIFICATE!!!" during the beginning of 2008 because it is SO important to squelch rumors like this from the beginning.

If even Oprah is asking the president why he waited so long (See the LATIMES link I posted), its because many people were simply tired of letting rumors fly. If you wait, people think you're lying because they get scared.

Again, Obama's middle name has Hussein in it. We were at war in the Middle East. People were practically getting strip-searched in airports. Many Americans didn't watch the news, period and Obama wasn't a prominent figure like Hilary. People get scared. For the same reason Juan Williams was fired from NPR for saying he got "nervous" regarding Muslims in traditional garb, people get SCARED.

Maybe it's irrational, but if any kind of discrimination was being applied to Obama in 2008, it wasn't his African American side, it was the fact that he was under suspicion of being a Muslim. Crazy at it sounds, these are the conclusions people came to. Some people still believe this, including persons in the US military.

You'll have to take it up with them.

What ARE you talking about??? He released his birth certificate in 2008. The very same birth certificate that any other citizen could use to prove citizenship. In 2008. This is what I'm saying. He released his birth certificate in 2008 Address this please and don't keep blathering on about "waiting so long." What Oprah (wtf) was talking about are copies of documents he had to specially request from Hawaii, which no other US citizen would need to prove citizenship There was no guarantee that his release of these docs would squelch the racist xenophobic paranoia that drove these rumors. Luckily it did drive it off mainstream media channels but it still festers. That Obama had to release these additional documents is an indictment of how Fox News et. al. have mainstreamed the rightwing crazy. The basis of these rumors was xenophobic racist paranoia. There's no other explanation for why the rumors continued to grow after he released his birth certificate in 2008 and it was examined and verified by credible sources.

Obama isn't a Muslim but why would it matter if he was?

Because socialist Muslim commies are taking our freedoms!!

I'm thinking something sparkly for my toes this summer. Maybe with teal undertones. What say you?

Darn, I hit cancel instead of submit. I have "Cost Is No Issue" by wet and wild but it's like BAM in your face glitter. The color is really pretty though and looks more blue or more green depending on the light

Maybe so, but there are people toiling in North Korean labor camps who believe the Jong il family is selected by the divines.

You can take it up with them.

Again, MAYBE SO. In this case he was asked to go above and beyond. It does still fester. But none of that is related to our topic. I told you, the vast majority of right-wing voters who followed the "birther" philosophy (and there are few now) did so because they were scared he was a Muslim, not scared because he was African American.

This is my point.

I told you, I have different reasons for not liking Obama and anyone here can hate me for those. I've never been a birther, but I have sat next to them, I have been related to one or more of them. I can only convey what they tell me.

And when people are scared of a candidate, they may want to see unreasonable amounts of proof.

Birthers will play only the smallest of roles in the 2012 election.

So, you don't have time to proofread, but you do have time to argue with the Internet for hours on end? Priorities, priorities! :naughty:

Not really, but my job allows me to work from home at a computer and flip through windows rapidly. Moreover, if you look at my track record on FJ, I don't really post all that much, and certainly not consistently.

Right now I have the time, and I just plum feel like it.

I'm not a birther and you know this. I don't think I could be any more clear on this issue.
