Oh yes I remember now. I was admiring this amazing painting in the Vatican museum it was so beautiful and then omg they are holding someone’s head!!! How did I miss that? I am pretty sure that was the story of Paul.

I think that painting might be the beheading on John the Baptist, but don't hold me to that.

Women are ridiculously under diagnosed. We tend to slip through the cracks because we don't show the "typical" symptoms (aka. the symptoms boys do). I only got a diagnoses young becasue I had another health issue which had me in the care of a specialist who saw the symptoms and suggested that I get tested.

I finally got diagnosed last year. in part because there was a discussion about ADHD on FJ and I finally had a psychiatrist who took me seriously when I brought up ADHD. Before I was in therapy for 8 years and my psychologist dismissed ADHD as „fashion diagnosis“.

I‘m still mourning the years I lost because had I gotten diagnosed earlier my life would be very different. At the same time I know now that all the difficulties I encountered is not because I‘m dumb but because of ADHD.

My brother has struggled a lot in life because of his ADHD.  He was diagnosed and put on ritalin and he says it helped enormously, but caused some tics (shoulder shrugging to relieve tension) that the teachers didn't like so he was taken off it.  He never was able to focus enough to succeed academically and he has terrible self-esteem issues that has led to a lot of trouble through his life.  I feel terrible that I didn't know more about it when we were younger, and it has a major influence on how we hope to parent.

Being called lazy and stupid for years really makes you internalize it, even when you know it isn't true in the first place. 😞

Exactly. There is also a lot of internalized guilt and shame involved for being different and not good enough. For me this led to not noticing when I was being treated unfairly/being criticized without proper reason at work or outside of it. Because of course I was at fault. Luckily since my diagnosis I’ve been able to see more and more through those dynamics.

I had high ambitions professionally and wanted to work a few years after my apprenticeship (which is very common where I live - more common than high school and university) and then go to high school and get my university degree. But I had enormous difficulties in my first job: I couldn‘t get properly done the interesting part of it because I didn‘t know how to structure/organize things and was too afraid to ask. I barely could get done the boring stuff either - I thought I was lazy now I know its ADHD.

Eventually I left after 3 years to go to high school. Afterwards I went to university where I struggled with time management and to structure myself even tough I loved my major. Not a good combination because I had to work to support myself. I exhausted myself, got diagnosed with depression and had to drop out.

I then took the job I still have now. It’s not very demanding and sometimes too boring but I love the interactions with our students. Three years ago I went to pursue my dream degree (Aviation Engineering) - but had to drop out again because of what I know now is ADHD.

At least here ADHD is still often misdiagnosed and not long ago it was consensus among professionals that ADHD would vanish when people reach adulthood. Which could not be further from the truth.

I got diagnosed a few years ago when I was struggling with eating my stress away.  I sought help for the eating disorder and found out that this is actually quite common for ADHD. A lot of things fell into place. I am not using ritalin because I hate how tired (and hungry) it makes me at the end of the day, but just having the diagnosis gave me lots of peace.

Knowing you're not crazy is worth a lot. And I am lucky that I still managed to get my university degree, mainly because I am lucky enough to learn really fast and don't need to actually study 😬

I see Lawson and Tiffany are currently in Anaheim, right near Disneyland.  Clearly it was time for a vacation. Again.🙄

  • 3 weeks later...

I just watched Lawson and Tiffany's honeymoon video part 2.

Sorry to say that they went to the exact same places I went to on my honeymoon. :(

And of course most of the videos is just them posing, over and over again.  The flashbacks to their Italian proposal were extremely gratuitous.  And all of their pics posing in Mykonos--it looks like someone else is taking the picture. Who?

Its pretty cringy to hear them complain about the ancient city of Corith having "a lot of paganism." And to hear Lawson mispronounce places like "Delos" and "Oia." He comes off as a deeply incurious person.

But I also feel sorry for him, just a bit--his fundy education has brainwashed him all his life into believing he's not allowed to appreciate/understand/admire  anything that isn't Christian. (or even Protestant)

So, I was actually surprised that they went to the ancient Sacred Isle of Delos, and actually seemed to enjoy it and learn something. Apostle Paul did not go there--it really is just a "pagan" site.

I'm also glad to see that they had to hump it on a crowded ferry, instead of having a private plane ride (which is probably what they would have gotten if UP was still filming).  They packed waaay too much.

They went to sites that were from ancient Greece and complained about paganism. SMH.

Sometimes I wonder if these people chose destinations where they know they'll disagree with the religion or history, just to make themselves feel ''holier than thou''.

On the other hand, it's Tiff and Lawson we are talking about. Pretty sure the choice of destination had more to do with the possibility to pose for nice pics. I believe they are that shallow.

I think in younger millenials (which is my peer group) and Gen Z this is not an entirely unpopular way to choose a destination for any vacation. Pinterest is full of suggestions of "the most instragrammable spots in X" and there seems to be a surge in travel guides that place particular importance on how nice a location will look on instagram.

This is one of my pet peeves. Pretty places are being overrun by people because of instagram. We just went to one of those hidden gems before social media. The sight is breath taking (this is why I wanted to go) but people go there, walk a bit, take tons of pics including with drones and go home. The location is advertising it being instagrammable. If you go to their website, the first thing you see is their hashtag.

My grandma was a tour guide when I was growing up. This was back in the 80s and 90s. She worked for a tour bus company and it was mostly older people (age 50+) going on these sightseeing trips in the US and Canada. My grandpa got tired of all the scenery pictures she took. He thought it was a waste because they had many photo albums filled with just scenery. So he had a rule to at least have a person posing in there too. Lol! I’m like my grandpa. I don’t take that many scenery pictures. I always need my kids to stand there too. I love the scenery but I also love people. When I go to a scenic place, I think to myself, they are all taking the exact same picture! The only way I feel like I’m taking a slightly different picture is putting my kids in it.

I hate that one of my favourite bush swimming holes has been ruined by Instagram. Great that people are getting off their couch and bushwalking, but when they’re just going there for the Insta photo and leaving rubbish it annoys me.

Mind you I admit to some hypocrisy- I’ve just been to the UK, and I did look at the hashtags on Instagram for a couple of the cities to get ideas of where to go.  For example I found a lovely little lane in Edinburgh.  We loved walking through this lane and others near it.  I did post it on Instagram. So yes I’m being hypocritical!

So sad when people only care about a good pic and spend no time actually experiencing  the place (let alone learn anything about it)

I was in Nashville for a bachelorette party this spring. We were looking for a place for breakfast, and all the "trendy" places had long waits, so we were just walking until we found something that looked good and didn't have a 2 hour wait. We saw a long line snaking around a corner, and we thought it must be another popular restaurant. Nope, it was a mural of wings, and people were waiting 45+ minutes to get a picture for Instagram. And this was a Friday morning; I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend or in the evening. It felt like every restaurant or bar we went to had some sort of wall/artwork/backdrop for Instagram photos.

I’m a terrible millennial. I’m so bad at remembering to take pictures. I’m afraid my kids will have an expectation of all these pictures of all these places we went. But it’s often that I just forget! My sister always remembers to take pictures.

My husband has ADHD. He was called the r-word when he was a kid. He is perhaps one of the smartest people I  know. He still takes medication to this day in his mid 50s. He needs it.

A few months ago a hiker here in WA dropped her phone in a hiking trail outhouse, went in after it, got stuck headfirst and had to be rescued by emergency workers. https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/24/us/woman-rescue-toilet-washington-trnd/index.html

It's not so much that so many people want to take photos and videos, but as pointed out, they are not saying or doing unique things, or giving unique perspectives. It's often the same empty landscapes, or if people are in it, the same poses in the exact same spot (literally, everyone stands on the same spot on the ground to get that picturesque snap that now is boring and mundane due to repetitiveness). I don't understand how it's so consumable, but I guess I'm not the ideal person to answer why things are popular lol.

But are you leaving rubbish behind? Are you trampling plants, squishing bugs, etc? It sounds like you are visiting photogenic spots with respect. No one could complain about that.

A right wing ‘patriot’ preacher who’s FB I occasionally look at has posted a picture of Tiffany saying he is on a conference tour in DC with Cindy Moon - any idea what that is all about??

She posted 2 hours ago that she's taking Lawson on a surprise trip to celebrate his birthday. Can you tell us the name of the "patriot aka gunhumping Christian nationalist" preacher?
