It took over a year for a new Raquel thread but nothing has actually changed since 2010.

Thank you - I almost did so myself a couple of days ago but like you said, nothing has really ever changed! Anyway, Here is the latest little bit of plagiarism I discovered yesterday, but I quickly got distracted with a ramen and sake date night with my love and a free massage at work!

Big Daddy Weave (awful name IMO) is an OG Christian band. Raquel would be better off just posting a selfie and quoting the literal lyrics in the caption. That is a very common practice on Instagram. And considering most of her followers are probably Christian girls from back in the day, I am not sure how she is getting away with ripping off a Christian band.

Quote

When you have been gifted a therapeutic aura, damaged and broken people are naturally attracted to you.
They see you as a wild and free spirit that they wish to have;
a wealth of good energy.
They think that by being around you, they can heal wholly and quickly.

This is not a bad thing.

It is both a blessing and a bittersweet curse.
It is a strength to be part of someone’s path to wellness, but having them in your life can — and will — drain you of vitality and strength.

So you must remember:
you are not the healer.

You are the antidote.

Aura ’round my face in the misty light
Shows I’m therapeutic as hell!
I laugh at broken folks through the night,
As my essential oils I smell!

Oh, see my aura, I’m a free spirit passing through,
No guys understand why I gleam.
I am the antidote, it’s not woo!
See my aura, and hold me in esteem!

Did the awesome announcement ever happen?

From what I can tell, no. She also never did more than one day of her December challenge. Raquel really isn't good at following through with things.

Raquel is writing a new book and it's going to be so much better than her previous books that were awesome.

I have to admit, I don't write well in my mine. It is the poor lighting and coal dust.

Her new book will be very different? Is there hope she might tell us what happened to Xachary(I'm  100% spelling this wrong but I can't remember how she spelled it.)??!!!!

I wonder how many books she has actually sold? Anyone know ho much it cost to self-publish books like she is doing? She has hard copies of these books, so it isn't all digital.

“And by the grace of Jesus”.... He has allowed Raquel to be out here making a fool of herself at the dawn of a new decade with no signs of stopping, He smiles down upon us and knows the laughs we get from her, er, um - words?

Most people who sell books on Etsy use a print-on-demand service like Lulu or CreateSpace, so they only keep a copy or three on hand at any given time. Of course Raquel may be different.

Her two books have three Amazon reviews combined so apparently she hasn't been wildly successful in getting her friends, family and Facebook followers to help publicize it.

Amazon can be weird with reviews.  If she’s selling hard copies then it doesn’t encourage reviews of the book on Amazon.  Also A,Zion will remove reviews if they detect (don’t ask me how, this is a tidbit I picked up from Sisters inCrime circles over the years) there is a relationship between the reviewer and the reviewee (author).  At one point there was a while kerfuffle in the world of amazon due to paid reviewers.  As a result I never trust five star ratings even though this has allegedly been stopped.

Raquel is raising money to go to Cambodia

Of course, this not a vacation! This is a mission’s trip,  though it costs $3000 for a mere 10 days in a country that is fairly cheap to travel to in a situation where she should be hosted free of cost as she is volunteering, it is definitely a mission’s trip ?

I have been itching for an opportunity like this! I will personally take the them time to investigate this organization and see what it takes to work with them for 10 days, airfare, etc.

Stay tuned!

Ah, well that did not take long. This org seems pretty transparent. The cost of the trip costs about a grand, and that covers everything but airfare. And the average airfare for leaving out of Seatac (Which I assume she would use since she is in Portland but the org is based here in Seattle) is about $1,300, so assuming there are some hidden fees on top of that, it appears she is asking for several hundred extra. She could be in the right with what she is asking for, but I still want to dig a little deeper. But of course, if she just raised $3,000 for that mission, things could go a lot further. But then she would not get her instagram perfect moments.

"caring for sick and hungry natives" English isn't my first language, but that wording rubs me the wrong way.

A 3.000 dollar 10 day trip will totes make a huge impact, White Christian lady handing out bowls in the soup kitchen. Much more than just donating the money to a local charity, her expertise is needed!!

well so far only 1 person of the 200+ she's "invited" has donated - 37,-

Considering how she behaved on all her other "mission trips", this is very bad news.

ETA: I just saw she is working with children. :my_sad:

I will be serving in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for 10 days, volunteering with Steps of Justice — running clinics on sanitation, participating in food distribution, helping out at an after school program for children, and caring for sick and hungry natives.

A great white savior huh. What does she know about sanitation or caring for the sick and how much of that is going to get done in ten days?

This whole organization sounds like a huge waste of money and resources. https://www.guidestar.org/profile/27-3284606?fbclid=IwAR3uzzufRv0IMInlqDPelDQO6Jr9PmRopgyAPTrty1OGKFlXFtfyXUSZlLs

Spoiler

To bring 60 participants to Cambodia each year, a team to Micronesia to work with YWAM Ships and a team to Latvia.
To distribute 500 prayer guides each year
To speak in YWAM School and Churches in the USA and internationally on justice issues

Actively engage people on line and in person regarding ministry trips. Phone churches and YWAM locations about speaking. Talk with pastors and youth workers about Steps of Justice resources like the prayer guide.

We are capable of all of these things. We have the staff and the resources to make it happen. We have speakers, team hosts, resources and the relationship with churches and organizations to see this happen.

We have distributed over 7000 prayer guides, have taken teams to Cambodia for the past 4 years and have spoken in dozens of churches, YWAM locations and schools.

Whatever those 60 participants are going to do on a ten day trip they could hire locals to do cheaper and more effectively.  And distribute prayer guides? If you really need a guide to pray, just  do a wordpress page where anyone can print it out as a pdf if they want it. You're welcome.

Spoiler

Each year we go to Cambodia 2 or 3 times. We bring 20-25 people with on each trip to work with local NGO's, run kids ministry, build houses and care for the poor.

I mean, sure, 20 unskilled volunteers who stay for ten days each are surely going to build a lot of great houses.

Oh this isn't a good turn of events.

FUCK YOU RAQUEL.

You seriously need to go to Cambodia to help someone? Have you ever opened your faux hipstered little eyes up to what's happening in our mutual community? Our homeless crisis?

I hate her. She wins my internet rage today. I wish I knew where she lived so I could do something like egg her doorstep.

That would make me feel very good.

Seriously, she's not a nurse or a teacher, it's one of those "feel good about yourself" type of trips. :(

She's a barista.

More useless in a foreign country than Lawson Bates. (there's a thread title)

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
