Erika Shupe *grim rictus* Large Families on Purpose Part 4

New photo! Karen and Melanie have been learning how to waltz from a YouTube tutorial. Then there's a photo in the comments of Karen and Anne Marie waltzing. Seems like you can dance in the Shupe household too- albeit slow, graceful, traditional, Godly ballroom dancing. None of this whip-nae-nae-ing.

I think it's kind of funny that just above the "Inclusive Bathroom" post is a picture of her daughters learning to waltz.

Which of her girls was assigned the man's role in waltzing???? Ballroom dancing has very specific movements and requirements for each partner. For example, the man always starts on one foot, the woman on the other.

Erika is letting her daughters pretend to be men!! :pb_lol::pb_lol:

My favorite comment EVER:

Quote

And god is the one who clothed both Adam and eve in very modest clothing.

Iknowright???  I seem to remember it being an ankle length leaf skirt for her (all the rage at the time),  paired with a nice twig cardigan (no contrasting rock buttons...wouldn't want to defraud anyone).

And this one:

Quote

 Lord.just come now.

Over bathrooms :pb_lol:  Lady, you're nuts!  Just stay home and pee if it means all that much to you.  No need to be praying down the rapture.

@Koala

Seriously? What the fuck? Pretty sure if Adam and Eve existed, they were naked.

And I just can't with the next one. I doubt gawd has time to care about bathrooms! :pb_rollseyes:

The reason coming out even as gay is still seen as a big deal is BECAUSE of these homophobic morons who think that a guy kissing a guy is gross and immoral. *shakes head*

Sometimes I wonder if they know lesbians exist, or if they're quietly enjoying the girl-on-girl porn that isn't a threat to their masculinity (ie, that doesn't show them what they lack).

I think they probably believe that if a lesbian found the right Godly man, she would turn away from her sinful lifestyle, and relish 30 second pound sessions at her headships request.

(Upon re-reading, that's really vulgar. But seriously...)

However, I totally accompany my smaller children into public restrooms.  Mostly to keep them from getting distracted and destroying the place, or rolling around on the floor.  I've got weird kids.

One of my sons tried to take a nap on the floor of a men's bathroom at Applebees. There will never, ever, again in his lifetime be a meal at Applebees where someone doesn't say, "I'm kinda sleepy. Better head for the bathroom."

Erika's posted a link to a Mom's Corner from none other than our very own Teri Maxwell. I think Erika gets the emails.

Blargh

I hope Erika can at least see that there is something odd going on at the Maxwells' house? The whole adult daycare center thing?

It's actually a whole plot point in the Genesis account!

They were naked to start with. Then after they sinned they noticed they were naked and felt ashamed, so they tried to dress themselves. They used leaves. Then after God confronted them, he killed an animal and made clothes for them out of the animal skin. The "modesty" however is complete fundie BS. Genesis says absolutely nothing about whether Eve's shameful collarbones and knees were covered by the God-approved animal skin.

@Eternalbluepearl @mango_fandango I think Erika loves the control the Maxwell family exerts upon the children (and we all know Erika loves to schedule and control!), but its clear she picks and chooses from their ideas to suit her fancy. She loves their schedules and latched onto the idea that extracurricular activities are harmful to the family (c'mon, we all know she doesn't like them because they'd screw up her precious schedule). At the same time, I doubt the Maxwell kids are allowed to see the new Star Wars movie. Erika also likes taking her kids to festivals and fairs without the explicit purpose of proselytizing.

Not to WK or take up for Erika at all, but if push came to shove I bet she too would admit that the Maxwells are too cloistered.

This just kills me! It's so ridiculous that she claims all these beliefs but at the end of the day, she just chooses the parts that suit her. She does the same with the Bible. :pb_rollseyes:

Not sure if I'm snarking the Maxwells or the Shupes here but the report card thing confuses me. I don't have children, clearly can't homeschool them, but I feel like making a report card, or some sort of report, for your child would be the obvious thing to consider when setting up a homeschool. I'm not sure why you'd have to write an article about it. I'm not sure why Teri makes such a big deal of it not taking extra time. I'm not sure why she seems to think her readers have never heard of Excel (or Google Sheets, which is even simpler). Wouldn't you expect, setting up a home school, that you would grade assignments and record that? Am I out of bounds?

I just feel like every article Erika or Teri writes that is supposed to be groundbreaking advice just falls flat.

Yeah, I thought about this, too. I'm in the same boat (no kids, etc),but if I were homeschooling, I would surely keep track of the kids' progress. What's the point, if you don't? Right? Are we missing something, here?

Antimony, and TankTops, you're not missing anything.  We homeskool (we'd homeschool, but that's far less fun,  heh) and yes, pretty much every homeschooler that's paying any attention at all has some way of keeping track of progress.  It's not that hard, or that revolutionary.

We're in Alaska, so we get reimbursed for homeschool expenses (to a point) from the state if you register with a homeschooling charter school.  I turn in grades, progress reports, and work samples quarterly to my contact teacher.  My kids see progress daily - I check everything they do ("if mom didn't check it, it's not done") and have them correct any errors, they progress in their books, we finish projects, we talk about all the progress we've made....etc, etc, etc...

We talk about grades, but I'll be honest, I tell them that since their education is individualized, I expect straight As.  A homeschool A tells me that student is giving their best effort, and making appropriate progress.  We also say "do it right, or do it over" so I have them go back and fix things for both comprehension/learning, and because I have several kids who will rush through things just to get them done, never mind whether it's done well.  I couldn't care less if they do every problem on every page of a book, but I care tremendously if they're actually learning.

You know what?  I'm going to start writing a homeschool newsletter!  In our first edition: Closets!  The Perfect Place for Shoes!  and How to Stretch Soup by Adding an Extra Can of Beans.  Maybe I'll do a Mom's Tips column for things like using a Sharpie to write kids' names on things, or how having a patterned  tablecloth means that you can hide stains better.  Sheesh.

We didn't do grades, either, because I expected anything that was missed to be redone. Tracking was just a list of curricula that we completed. For high schoolers, something closer to a traditional grade system might be necessary for scholarships and college applications. Some will accept a list of courses and SAT/ACT scores without traditional grades, though. Lots of kids take college courses while still in high school nowadays, so they would have some "official" grades to show they can pass muster that way.

Honestly, I don't think Teri's article is too bad. Yes, most "normal" homeschoolers (whose priority it is to give their children the best education and best possible chances in life) probably already do something along those lines. But I'd venture to guess that many people in Teri's and Erica's social circles do nothing of the sort. Does anybody here actually think that the Duggars write report cards for their kids? The Bateses? The Rodriguii? Etc. etc. If Teri's article gets any of these sorts to reconsider their homeschooling, then I'd consider it a success. Even though, yes, for us what Teri writes is kind of "duh, who DOESN'T do that?"

Exactly. The Jeubs come to mind. According to Cynthia Jeub, not much education was happening at all when they homeschooled and Chris put much more emphasis on his kids working for his home business than learning or studying. I can't imagine they had report cards. What's wrong with those dimwits? Thank goodness the remaining Jeub kids at home are in school now.

Yes, I was going to say if you wanted to create high school transcripts you'd probably need to do report cards.

But, we know no Maxwell child will ever attend college, or any kind of secondary school, so I guess there's no need.

I thought it was weird that Teri mentioned that about college in her post because in what universe would that concern them?

Erika has shared some home videos of dogs stealing food but noted that, " Lucky for us, our home is almost never empty and quiet long enough for animals to do such things." Sounds smug to me. Us heathens only have our animals get into things because we dare go to school or work.

As if she would ever have food where a child or pet could get to it easily...

I loooove Erika's not-so-subtle humblebrag in one of her latest posts. She posted an article titled "Surprising Study Finds More Kids Means Slower Aging" and her comment on that article was:

Quote

I think we have found this to be the truth. How about you?

Girrrrrl, you look decent for your age but don't think that eleventy children leads to youthful looks. She replies to people throughout the comments about how young she looks and how people compliment her on that. How is this not being prideful? I bet people don't realize  that she used birth control to space out her kids.
