If that clip about Jill and Jessa comparing pregnancy bumps is anything to go by, these specials are going to be boring AF.

Watching the clip, I don't think that's blood--the color's not right and it's not splotchy at all. If that were blood and it was the much, we'd see it dripping to the floor and Jessa would be unconscious and EMT would be moving much faster.  Looks to me like part of a blanket or straps on the gurney.

I'll veer off from the rest of the clip commentary and note that in Spud's nursery, the crib is right under a window with corded blinds. I cringed. A lot. We want to have kids so any new window treatments we get to replace what the previous owner bought are roller shades or cordless blinds. Shades are dirt cheap and even nicer cordless blinds aren't bad if you look around. We got those for a window about that size for ~$75 shipped and they look great.

TLC is really trying to drive up interest in these 3 specials. Another clip was released today. It was an extended clip of the first promo that TLC put on the air.

http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/jessa-and-jill-duggar-compare-their-pregnancy-bodies-in-counting-on-clip-watch-w159448

I love Jessa stating that Ben is going to be the one that goofs off with the kids and she will be the one to keep them in line. Ben is still a kid. He would be the perfect frat boy. Jessa also mentions that Jill would pretend to be a nurse as a child. Too bad Jim Bob and Michelle crushed that dream.

Best comments from the article:

-"Ben sounds like the most uneducated person."

-"OMG, how painful is this to watch? Like paint drying.."

Oh my gosh, the Duggars are on every gossip page today. People even has an exclusive clip. TLC PR is working overtime. TLC really wants these specials to be a hit. John David speaks along with Joseph. What is strange is the random clips thrown in when John David and Joe are talking. The clips are from Jill & Derrick's going away party at their church. It was the party that was thrown together at the last second as a thank you for their supporters, but the supporters had to bring the food. I would have preferred just to have heard Joe & John David talk.

Best comments from the people article:

-"Just as I thought.... The 'Jill and Jessa' special isn't about Jill and Jessa after all. It's 19 kids and counting, mark II"

-"They sound so coached."

-"They can't even say the words sexual abuse or sexual affairs."

-"The pain in their faces is so heart breaking."

The comments under the new Clip released by People are awesome.

Mostly pointing out how absurd it is that the molestation is not considered a big thing but cheating is really bad. Also People see how strange it is that the Boys are by no means able to name what really happend. They just talk about "the first Thing" (molesting your sisters including a five year old!) which was not as bad as the "second thing" (having sex with a porn star).

One comment Points out that if those scandels would not have been made public, the Duggars would still be on Air as the world best example of one happy Christian Family.

So the reactions are what the Duggars deserve and yet, so many People (INCLUDING ME) are interested enough to watch the clip and to comment in addition. Thats all TLC Needs, thats all the Duggars need for money.

At least I hope they will never make it back to the status of a role model Family ("We come out of this fire stronger as a Family unit") but as just another absurd Lifestyle that can be seen on TLC. And may their downfall teach people about the difference between a cult and beeing Christian and how wrong it is to obey to such unhuman unrealitic rules.

I wonder if JB & M are so angry with Josh that they insist on a 'leave and cleave ' approach after rehab.  They are letting his siblings put the blame firmly at Josh's feet. I think he may be on his last chance with his parents and having the siblings speak publicly may be setting things up to distance the family from Josh.

JB & M had already given Josh and Anna couples retreat stuff before the shit hit the fan.  Maybe they have a suspicion that the marriage will not last and have chosen their sides already by having Anna speak on the special.

pure speculation

I wonder if that is a family unit with or without Josh. If it is Josh inclusive it doesn't seem like they're going about it the right way to me

No. They will reach a new level of forgiveness with Josh and well become even better Christians for it.

And JB is going to have Josh on a reeeallly short leash since the family will "Support Anna" and Support their lifesytle ("Coming out of this fire stronger as a family unit").

Since they are showing the specials on Sundays, they are bound to get some good ratings.  Clever move on TLC's part as Sunday is the only day their shows make it to the top 100 any more.  My gut tells me that these are the first three of an ongoing series of "specials" that will bring the Duggars back into game. It will be business as usual for Jim Bob and Michelle and I look for them to carry on as if nothing happened, sans Josh. TLC does run the risk of becoming The Duggar Network so we shall see how this all plays out.  I will not be watching as there is not enough blood pressure medicine in the world to keep me within normal range if I have to view this nonsense.  But, clearly, TLC is heavily invested in this family and wants their show to succeed and they will pull out all the stops to assure it is a hit.

I disagree. I paused the screen when it came on to see if that's what I really saw. I guess we'll see when and if it airs. Can anyone do a screen shot? I'm not super great at that.

I think that's the longest I've ever heard Joseph or John David speak.

They both looked so pained.

When John David was saying how he now had to be the example for his younger brothers, I could hear his parents telling him that and putting that burden onto him.

I also noticed how neither young man mentioned the scandals by deed, just by scandal #1 and #2.  I guess #2 did make more of an impact on them since they have grown up knowing about #1.  John David was probably made to respect Josh even after he molested his sisters and the family friend because of Jesus and forgiveness.

There is a new Petition ( at least ist new to me:)

If 19 Kids and Counting isn't canceled permanently (including air time for reruns and any spinoffs) your stores and products will be boycotted for your support of the Duggars. General Mills has already black listed the show, please do the same.

Sigh. As much as I am not going to watch this special, do not support it being made, and find this family repugnant, I still have been watching all the clips TLC has released for it. What's wrong with me? :my_confused: (This is what you wanted, isn't it TLC? Ugh)

My thoughts on that clip:

-Jill looks really awesome. I think she's always been cute, but I feel like she's actually showing a little bit more personality, talking in a more natural sounding way (when she's not talking about the Joshley business), and she looks really beautiful.

-Also, I had never seen much of Jill and Jessa talking to just each other, and it was kind of cute to see them talk about their childhood games where Jill was the nurse.

-Derick does not look comfortable holding Izzy.

-Ben looks and sounds stoned. Seriously, if I didn't know he was a fundie, I would think he was a college pot dealer.

-My god, Jessa and Ben sound so young when they talk about parenting. I'm nervous for them. I'm only a little older than they are, and I cannot imagine myself having the responsibility of having a child around. Good lord. I hope for Spud's sake they're ready.

Well, so much for JD rising above and not participating. It's interesting to see him talk, though -- he never has gotten much air time.

I wonder if this will put new pressure on JD to marry soon. Someone has to set the example of how to do it "right" now that Josh has royally screwed up.

I watched the clip several times full screen on my desk top monitor.  It is not blood, it is part of the gurney.  There are small straps at the foot and larger straps at the midsection.

Watching the People clip you can really see how much weight Mullet has put on.  She got really thin right after the Josh scandal broke but she must be comfort eating because her shirt is straining around the middle.  I don't think she is pregnant, just put on 20 lbs or so.

I refuse to watch any clips regarding this travesty of a last ditch effort.

I did read the comments JD and Joseph made though - I feel very badly for them and all the other kids, but especially for JD. It must be very tough suddenly being the brother everyone looks to in that way. Even worse, he no longer looks up to his big brother like he once did. That has to be incredibly tough to deal with all at once.

I hope all those kids are doing ok, even the married ones and even Josh. They're all victims of the same shitty parenting and same cult. I hope they're ok.

The People magazine article says that all the boys wanted to be just like Josh. He was their role model. So they boys all knew about the molestation and Josh was still their role model? Wouldn't Elliott Spurgeon been a better role model? or Jesus? Is being a balding child molesting used car salesman really  the ideal for the Duggar youth.

Former nurse here...it looks like a piece of clothing or blanket. The edges are too regular for it to be a blood stain. Plus it's too high up in relationship to where it should be.

Is Kohl's really supporting the Duggars again? This petition says they are. I had gotten several emails months ago from corporate saying they would not. I had actually cut up my Kohls card and they sent me a new one after they promised not to sponsor the show.

I keep thinking about the clips I've watched...there must have been an epic Come to Jesus (no pun intended) moment both within TLC and between TLC and the Duggars. Those shots of Michelle... she almost looked normal. Granted, they were from a distance, but she must have known she was being filmed, and yet no crazy eyes, no forced "pleasant" expression. She was affectionately(!!! and it looked authentic!) running her hand down one of the girl's hair and it looked genuine. We never hear her but you can see her talking to people and it seems obvious that she's talking like a normal person--no squeaky voice or weird cadence. And the talking head with the various adult kids. It's not just the the girls this time--Joe and JD speak more words on camera in that clip than they have the entire run of the show. And Jana and Jill do TH's on their own, looking sincere instead of like they're following a script, not paired up with one of then staring idiotically at the one who's talking. Even Jessa and Jill--it was boring, but the talk about belly sizes sounded like what normal people say to each other. Jill's wasn't doing her ridiculous facial expressions.  The only moments that were awkward and/or obviously scripted were the individual Jill and Jess THs, the scene with the two couples together, and Jessa and Ben talking about their "parenting styles."

I got the impression that TLC decided to listen to some of the long term criticism about the fakeness of their reality show, about how it looks like the girls are forced on screen while the older boys get to largely opt out and have lives of their own. It's like TLC sat the Duggars down and, "You know that thing we've always done where you play up your 'folksy' 'charm' and how different you are compared to most people? We're not doing that anymore. Act normally. And admit that you have real human emotions and are upset at Josh." It's a brilliant change. It's still not good, they were all clearly coached in many respects ("first situation"? Really, JD?), and the bullshit is obvious to anyone who pays attention, but it's enough to get a lot of people to go back to viewing the family is harmless oddballs.  Dammit. When--and I'm convince now that it's definitely "when"--the show comes back, the producers won't be doing things like  egging JB on to be sexually creepy on screen.  They've finally learned their lesson on that score.
