Could we not one-up the "Rebelution" by pointing out all the oh-so-modest girls who wrote questions about bending over in front of a boy and the like may have...been seeking the best ways to titillate them? ;)

"Uh, if I bend over reallllly slooowly like this, or if I adjust my bra straps, or if I flaunt myself with my sexy walk like a brazen Jezebel, I was just wondering....um...which causes you the most lustful thoughts? So I can be a good sister in Christ, of course..."

I love this. If I was ever given this survey, that would be my plan.

"What torments you the most, my dear Brothers in Christ? I want to... help... you..."

I'm just starting to read through the responses, and I have to say that I'm really squicked out by how specific the questions are ... and the responses. I'm trying to formulate my thoughts, but long ramble post short ... I think the guys who devised this survey and many of the respondents who are quoted seem to have some serious sexual problems/unhealthy obsessions. I would be mortified at the thought of some of these things coming out of my son's mouth and would wonder where I f'ed up in the "raising a healthy child" department. It makes me uncomfortable just reading these responses (and gives me flashbacks to Catholic youth group when I was told I was "leading others to sin" for a long-sleeved non-turtleneck I was wearing). :?

From the question, "Overalls are modest as long as a modest shirt is worn underneath." (OMG, WHO is wearing overalls without a shirt underneath?!)

It would depend on the situation, but in public, a girl is overalls is looking for attention.

Huh??

Maybe I am alone in this, but my "Hey! Female skin!" radar doesn't stop to check DNA first.

Oh yes, the classic line. Quick, I need to scrub my skin now.

However, has it actually been updated? Because it looks like the same old thing to me.

Don't you know? Overalls are intended to titillate men and encourage them to commit acts of lust!

LOL, ellerigby, DO ITTT! Your sisters in FJ (and brothers) will thank you ;)

Overalls, fucking what? Does that mean the same in the US? Like what you would wear to paint a house?

In which case the girls are maybe looking for attention like "Can you pass me the roller?" or "I'm not sure about this exhaust pipe. Want to take a look?"

This is so weird. I consider myself very modest. Today I am wearing five layers on my top half alone. I guarantee no ebil flesh is showing apart from hands and face. I lack long highlighted hair to flip at men (or women) as I don't have much in the way of hair. I also lack any makeup whatsoever. So logically I am teh perfect modest woman.

If fundie men think I am or women in overalls are searching for their attention, they want the burqa and they ought to admit it.

I'm thought I was usually looking for a paintbrush or a hammer. Who knew?

How do you walk in a "sex type way"? I'm imagining some girl somehow walking with her legs far apart--kinda like John Wayne. Maybe the poor girl is just bowlegged. Did they ever think of that?

Any woman walking less than a full step behind her man? ;)

If I were a teenage boy that was forbidden to look at/think about/scared of pornography, perhaps my natural urges could be dealt with by spending a LOT of time thinking about all the ways I can be defrauded.

Yeah, I think we're thinking the same thing. Here's a pic just in case.

Of course, now that I did an image search for "overalls women," I got to see people wearing overalls without a shirt. *sigh*

I think part of the problem stems from a patriarchal form of narcissism which assumes that all females are looking for male attention in some shape of form.

Yes!! I've been looking at this all the wrong way. It's really a tool to help me better defraud my brothers in sin.

I wouldn't call those overalls - they're dungarees.

I think of overalls as more like a boiler suit. Though that could be just me.

See, I think of those as "coveralls."

Either way, I think we can agree that either item of clothing is far from immodest. At least, I hope so. :)

MonkeyMomma, I reckon you and Julie are right simultaneously ;) Would call those dungarees, but it is because they are blue denim. If they were made out of anything else I would call them overalls.

I have a relative who's a painter/decorator and he wears stuff like that. It's work gear! If a guy is getting defrauded by a woman with a shirt and overalls on doing some decorating, I think that may be a fetish :D

It worried me how many guys said they wouldn't respect a girl who wasn't modest, especially since so many of the responses were from teenagers. The one about having to be modest while working out annoyed me. I'm trying to work out, not worry if I'm creating a mountain of stumbling blocks with my sinful figure.

See, I see a skirt and I think about easy access. I see those and I think about fumbling for at least five minutes trying to get the damned things off!

ETA: Quoting error.

I'd wear them if I could find any in my size. I love overalls! Always have! No worries about my shirt riding up or my underwear showing... *sigh*

What is really sad is, as modest as I dress personally, I am apparently still to immodest for so many of the boys on that site. (Yes I know that most of them are adults, but any male who would rather blame the woman for his sexual thoughts than just look away or cope with them like an adult is not a man!)

Seeing a girl take off a pullover (i.e. a shirt that must be pulled over the head) is a stumbling block, even if she is wearing a modest shirt underneath.

Good fucking God. I'm going to excuse myself to the bathroom to take off my effing sweat shirt? Please.

They even make them in Women's. (click to see the website)

Nearly every answer under Open Questions "How do you feel about girls who purposely flaunt their bodies? " is disturbing to me.

I find it difficult to respect them, but I do my best to have compassion for them, because their behavior may be spurred by many anxieties of which I am not aware.

Of course, if someone displays any amount of skin they find inappropriate it MUST be the result of 'anxieties', definitely not confidence w/ her body.

It's different to look pretty for beauty's sake, and to look pretty for attention's sake. Guys really notice when a girl is being too bold, and (hopefully) finds that he must combat his evil thoughts about you. We also notice and appreciate, in a pure way, when a girl dresses pretty, but does so modestly.

Too bold is definitely evil. God forbid a nice Christian girl do anything but look at her shoes, and wait for the guy to approach her father!

It's not their body to flaunt. It belongs to Christ and their future husband. How dare they flaunt something that God did not permit them to flaunt? How dare they write a check the Bible doesn't allow them to cash? When a girl purposely flaunts her body, she is almost immediately ruled out for anything beyond acquantenance in my eyes.

Sick, sick sick.

It drives me crazy. They are the type of girls that I do not want to be around. Not only will they most likely cause me to sin, but they will not help me to grow as a follower of Christ. They also don’t display much self value and that is a big draw back. I want someone who will help me to avoid temptation, not provide me with it. When you flaunt yourself, you drive me away and sometimes actually make me physically sick.

The feeling is mutual.

Sickening. The disgust far outweighs the attraction. What do they expect to gain from their display?I respect and admire a girl with a dress. I totally ignore something that looks like a heathen prostitute.More of a problem is those who have remained bastions of purity, yet unknowingly take a fling in the opposite direction. You become accustomed to looking at them unguardedly, and when they suddenly change for the worst...bad things happen.

He can't even call her a person. She is a "something." And what the heck does that last sentence even mean? Bad things, as in his having "bad thoughts" or is he implying worse than that?

These boys must have penises on a hair-trigger.

I remember a while back, several of us on freejinger asked our teenaged sons what they thought about some modesty survey. My 16 year old basically said he would generally notice an attractive member of the opposite sex no matter what she wore. That is typical heterosexual male behavior, there's no way around it. It's not the girl's responsibility to control male sexuality, if anything it is degrading to suggest that men are helpless against female wiles.

Not to mention, who is he to know what a girl's purpose is in wearing clothing? Judging someone else's intent, the incredible arrogance or at least ignorance, to fancy oneself to know another's mind.
