She said when you’re postpartum you need lots of perfume and deodorant to cover up increased body odour 🙃

I’ll take “things I didn’t need to know” for $200, Alex.

I actually couldn’t with my babies since they were prone to eczema and had sensitive skin. I never wore perfume while breastfeeding and tried not to use too much deodorant.

As an adult with eczema, allergies, and asthma, thank you!

It reminds me of when someone with perfume, or worse, a smoker, would hold our baby and then we'd get her back and she would stink. Ugh. No.

This is the first streak of boys ever. Until Ryker and William, there hadn’t even been two boys in a row and now there are 3.

No joke, I went ''There's a William? What? Never heard that name. Who's child is this? William Bates? No. That doesn't sound right. William who?'' And it took me a good old 5 minutes to realize it was Erin's last kid. Seriously, I dunno who used the hashtag #therestoomanyofthem but yeah, I second that.

I mean there are actually three William Bates 😂 but none of them go by their full first name. But yes there are so many and if the rumours are true, 2024 will be just as plentiful baby wise.

Yes…I was wracking my brain thinking about a baby between Rhett and Ryker, and finally concluded that there was not one. I always forget a boy here and there because the B girls are just so much more active and recognizable.

I did the same with Lily.

Baby William is the 4th. There is Papa Bill. Then, Gill and Lawson's first name is William.

So per Josie's new Q&A, Kelton is a family name on his side. It's been rotated as a first or middle name for the last 5 or 6 generations.

Josie also said she broke out in pregnancy hives post birth so she got a prescription to clear that up. She's also having more pain in her pelvic region post birth. Like it hurts a lot to walk because of it so she is going to see a specialist about that.

She was in active labor for four hours and pushed for six minutes.

Baby William is not William Bates though, which is what I meant. He is William Paine. The comment I was replying to said that she knew William Bates sounded wrong and I thought it was funny because this is the one William in the family that isn’t a Bates.

I like the name Kelton more knowing that it’s a family name. From a little internet research, I found that Kristy’s dad’s middle name is Kelton. I also saw that Michael’s mom’s name was Willie so possibly Willow’s name was kind of a nod to her.

Willow's middle name is Kristy, after Kelton's mom.

I hope this is three and done.  The Bates girls seem to have gotten genes for health issues somewhere; I am thinking it has to be coming from Gil's line, since Kelly had so many babies and her health seems to still be fine.

I don’t think KJ has good health at all. She might have had decent reproductive health but that’s because she was trying to get pregnant all of the time, whereas, most women try to avoid pregnancies for most of their reproductive lives.

In a recent IG Josie stated that Miles was born at 37 weeks (not 38) and that he was 7-10, her biggest baby yet. Had he been born at term, he would have been > than 9 lbs. I am glad that he was born early as Josie likely would have been very miserable both carrying and birthing a > than 9 lb baby.

Ah.  I pay so little attention to Kelly that I guess I thought anybody who could get pregnant that many times had to be superwoman.  I only read about most of them here.

My daughter and I had fast induced labor/deliveries; like 2 1/2 hours start to finish.  Her babies were bigger than mine, but neither one of us had pelvic pain.  Her biggest was 9 lbs 3 oz.  But we are tall and I guess we were "built for birthing".

Did Josie say why she stayed in the hospital for 6 days? That's a lot for the US.

I was wondering that, too.  I thought they were sending new mothers home almost the same day.

If the baby has to stay and the mother is nursing, doesn’t she get to stay? Because Miles was only allowed to be held for feeding for about a week.

His levels for the antibody issue that Josie has came back high six hours after his birth so they had to put him under the lights till his levels improved. And yes, Josie was allowed to stay with in the hospital with him.

The Bates girls all have a blood clotting disorder that requires them to take shots everday. But Josie seems to have another issue with the antibodies of her babies.  Hazel had it and now Miles,  It can be very dangerous without heavy monitoring, which is why Josie had visits with a high risk OBGYN every two weeks from mid-October till a few weeks before she gave birth.

She could stay in a room with him, but she was no longer an inpatient. Hospitals try to do this so long as space and facilities are available. One of the signs of this was that the videos of them leaving showed her walking out of the hospital versus the customary wheelchair ride to the vehicle.

I work in Obstetrics in Canada. We don’t typically discharge mom without baby, unless baby is in the NICU for a prolonged stay (like more than 7-10 days). So mom will be allowed to stay, but we have the option of activating a patient status called “alternate level of care”. That means that we’re not actively treating a patient and we’re just awaiting discharge. It translates to the doctor not having to round on the patient every day, and nurses not having to do vitals/check on them as much. So often when we see a mom who otherwise would be fine to go home, but is staying because baby still needs care, they can document something in mom’s chart like “discharge home when baby ready, make ALC in the interim”.

We also have parenting rooms, which are bedroom-type setups beside the NICU. If baby is close to being discharged from the NICU, often parents will stay in one of those rooms for a few nights to practice caring for babe around the clock and be able to feed babe any time, etc.

You know, I would have guessed Milo over Miles for Josie. Miles seems much more traditional while Milo seems a bit more trendy and cool.

I think Willow and Milo are too similar sounding. I didn’t listen to that idea because my older son and daughter have very close sounding nicknames and my two boys have close sounding given names. Oh well. I’m glad Josie didn’t fall into that trap.

When naming our kids, my husband was adamant about giving them middle names that would make good first names, just in case they wanted to go by a different name when they’re older. It ended up being a good compromise because I don’t like super trendy/currently popular names, but some of his favorite names have been in the top 10. So our kids have first names that are not super popular (but still top 100) and middle names that are popular (top 10 or 20). And sure enough, none of the Duggar or Bates grandkids share first names with my kids but they do with my kids’ middle names (Mason Duggar and now Miles).
