I feel like the fathers in the fundie cult perpetuate this vicious cycle of teenage sons (or not much older) being married off because that is the pit the older men fell in to. The fathers brow beat it into the young male mind that there’s to be no sex before marriage. So the barely adult male marries mostly to satisfy his sexual needs and proceeds to have a passel of kids. Now, there may be some young adult fellas, say 18 to 21, who really like kids, but most of the ones I know or have known prefer to do many, many other things rather than start raising a family at such a young age, or even be married for that matter. By the time these young married fundie guys have three or four kids, they really are trapped into staying in the marriage (and of course, divorce is considered a sin) even if the initial compatibility with their wife wears off. Their underlying resentment of being shangheid into this lifestyle is then taken out on the younger generation of males when they start growing up, whom they insist follow the same strict male-female relationships before marriage. Because why should the younger ones have more sexual freedom than they had? And so it continues generation after generation.

Going back to Jana, I would so like to think this would be a wake-up call that no one can watch that many children, but probably it won't be.

I actually agree it can happen to anybody (some kids would give Houdini a run for his money and I know several of them), but this whole family thrives on the myth that this ginormous number of kids could be safely cared for by Jchelle. When of course they were divided up and being tended by the older girls.
But now they don't have a trained cadre of buddy mommies. Yeah, there are the lost girls and MacK, but they haven't been trained to watch babies/toddlers/howlers all day every day for years. And the littles are visitors, not residents, so they haven't been trained to go to a buddy mommy whenever they have a need, or just something to say. 
So there is no system in place, just Jana in charge, maybe some random adults or maybe not, some young teen girls who can hold a baby or take one on a swing or whatever, but don't have the ability or the authority to impose any rules--a varying cast of buddy mommies and buddy children doesn't work. And Jana at the head has the ultimate responsibility for them all, and guess what? Just like your useless Mama, you can't watch umpteen young kids at the same time.

 You can't watch umpteen young kids at the same time - nor should she as non of them are her children.  So hopefully she has learned the value to set some healthy boundaries, calls her sisters to task to keep an eye on their off spring, calls her brothers in laws to task for 'baby sitting' their own children, and ditto with the brothers and sisters in laws. NON of these children in that household are hers. Not one of them. As for her siblings that live at home still, they are old enough now to not being in need of Mommy or Jana dearest. The child that got Jana in trouble is neither of hers nor her Mothers, its the child of one of her siblings. Just saying. Its a child from one of the useless brothers or sisters.

Jana has posted a video of NYE- she is now the Duggar Family official account. Lots of people at the big house, JB holding court, Michell holding a child. Nothing has changed - just no Josh.

Yes, that’s Christian. The Bowers seemed to become Duggar humpers in the last couple of years. Carver doesn’t post much anymore. But he used to post a lot of pictures with the Duggars. 

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bontragers stopped by as well. Their first scheduled winter performance is in Austen, Texas on Jan 2. The Duggars are on the way from Iowa to Texas.

Their winter tour is extremely sparse. It seems pointless to me.

They aren't hers, but if she agreed to watch them I don't understand why this is an issue.

I certainly agree no one should watch more kids than is safe, but I don't understand the tone that it's so egregious to baby sit a siblings kids.  She's an adult, if asked and agreed she was responsible.

She lives the life of a 31 year old teenager with no financial responsibilities, no need to work, she babysits and putters around with her hobbies and Instagram.  

If she doesn't like this lifestyle she has choices.

It’s so obvious Jana is going to be the new Duggar PR person. Most people will easily look past the child endangerment charge. She will keep posting all these lovely innocuous family pictures and videos. They will pretend everything is lovely and perfect and as if Josh isn’t sitting in jail awaiting his sentence. They will ignore any claims made by Amy or Jill. All back to normal for the Duggars. They are used to just sweeping things under the rug and pretending everything is perfect.

@HerNameIsBuffy exactly. This would be the perfect opportunity for her to assert she was no longer playing the Duggar game, especially as there’s no TV show to maintain that image for. Instead Jana has doubled down on promoting the Duggar ‘happy family’ image and even thrown in a ‘I’m being persecuted by the evil media’ side dish. She could embrace privacy - have her social media available only to the followers of her choice and pursue her life in peace. She clearly doesn’t want to.

If one of my children was just put in jail for anything else there is no way I'd be hosting parties.  I understand having a family Christmas for the kids, but no way would I be up to have anyone else there.  And I sure as hell wouldn't allow this happy family shit posted online.

I am not being hyperbolic when I say I'd be suicidal to the point where I'd be rocking back and forth trying to fight the urge to end things for the sake of my other kids. 

 

Granted, I'm not as social as the Duggars, and putting on a happy face while suffering is a talent I lack, but physically, mentally, emotionally getting back to business with parties and people would not be happening within 3 weeks.  I doubt I'd ever be back to my baseline.  

For some people this might be a comforting distraction, but for the introverts in that family who are in pain right now and need to process this I can't imagine anything less helpful than mandatory holiday cheer.  

On a less depressing note, all these shots of Michelle from the back reminds me of an episode of Speed Racer I saw when I was super little.  I don't remember the set up but you could see speed from behind and he looked normal, but he turned around and instead of his face there was a green scary alien.  Maybe a bug.  I had nightmares about that for a while so it stuck with me....I keep expecting her to turn around and be some horrifying decaying undead corpse.

You know what’s sad? They are probably used to just turning around quickly and putting on a happy face every time Josh has been caught doing something horrible. This has probably been happening pretty regularly since he was a young teen. I’m sure there have been horrible things he has done that we don’t know about. That were kept just between Josh, Anna, JB, and Michelle. They’ve been doing this for two fucking decades. It’s insane.

But Pickles ([ know, I know) posted pictures from a New Year's Eve party that I hadn't seen from Jana. Where does she or anyone else get pictures from inside the Duggar home? I'm very naive about stuff like that but I dont understand.

Looking at that video something struck me that has been nagging at me for years. Maybe it's been brought up here already, but the bonkers architecture of that house with dormitories, industrial kitchen, high ceilings and lights made for filming, besides being weird and uncomfortable, looks just like a place someone might describe as, "it's our home for now, but eventually we plan to turn it into an official church building with meeting rooms, ministry office, and...[whatever else they might think their growing church would need.]

In the 80s I attended, with my mom, a small church in the Kansas City area that met on the lower floor of an office building. Eventually it turned into an enormous mega church with much ensuing fame and drama (after I bailed, of c., though I did not escape some secondary drama.) Could be a Jim Bob sort of pipe dream.

There were tons of non-family members there, anyone could have sent her pics.  

Not all of the kids or tertiary people can be marinating in kool-aid and even those who are, don't all the insiders talk about how much fundies love drama and gossip?

I think they are genuinely having a happy Christmas. Probably no one but JB, ofJB and Anna are invested in Josh. No one thinks about him, misses him and all are glad he's absent. I'm sure they'd all prefer the reason he is absent is Josh got a job out of town and moved away. But for the most part, neither his presence nor absence affects most of his sibs.

I think the info that was made public in court about their molestations did affect them. I didn’t spot Joy at the NYE party. Of course Jill wasn’t there. Jinger doesn’t live in AR so she wasn’t there. The only one of Josh’s victims there was Jessa. Maybe the rest can get over it because their molestation details weren’t made public.

Other than Austin and Derick, I don’t think any of the kids or in laws went to court while the prosecution was putting its case? I’m sure without it being explicitly spelled out to them, the likes of Justin have no idea what CSA material really is and what this particular material involves. They hear the word ‘porn’ and they think it’s about naked ladies. And one thing JB & M made sure of is none of them are intellectually curious enough to question the version their parents give.

Yes, I believe she was at Christmas. But that was just family. I didn’t see her at the NYE party. That party was way bigger than Christmas. Lots of people were there.

Not just them, but all of the kids.  I know if someone in my family was going to do something so horrific I'd prefer it not be someone with the same family name.  They are public figures and now every time their names are googled this will come up.  It could come up in their interactions with the "fans" and public at any moment.  

Even if they don't care that Josh is gone as a person, I can't imagine they aren't all upset at the humiliation it's brought to the family.
