@alwayscaffeinated we ended up with Panther much the same way. He walked in the house. He didn't walk out. He's with #2 son in Vegas still...20+ pounds of pure house panther kitty love. He was a stray, we think someone left him behind when they moved out of the complex, as he was obviously used to indoor living. We were sitting outside in late fall and it was starting to get Vegas chilly. There was only one big blow up between him and the dynamic duo. It was hysterical! Leia, all 14 pounds of non-confrontational kitty got all up in Panther's face and told him how it was going to be. I didn't know cats could make those noises. She was PISSED as she told him off too...he stopped trying to pick fights immediately afterwards. According to #2 son, he's still just an enormous furry black puddle of snuggle. Man, I miss him.

Way back after either the first or second special, I think the one where he showed off his AV room, a friend of mine and I were discussing the Duggar’s and she said then that she got such a creepy vibe from him. All these years later it’s sick to realize just how right she was.

The smug prick thinks he’s so smart and above the law. Clearly he was not into true crime because the forums for that basically say repeatedly to exercise your right to remain silent period innocent or guilty. Much better for this situation that he is as stupid as he is smug. I was dumbfounded that he would use the same password as he uses on his bank accounts and other accounts as he did to access these horrifying images. The site I read also stated that there was a text from him to Anna on the cited date of the 14th stating he was “stuck here and not free yet” and minutes later the assault images were accessed. That’s pretty damning. His lawyers only hope aside from a plea deal IMO is to try to say seizing the iPhone and not allowing him to call a lawyer from it was unconstitutional. I don’t personally see how you could let someone access the phone you have in the warrant and potentially erase evidence when there would be other options AND he did not ask for an attorney when Mirandized according to the hearing info I read.  Pure speculation- I think the judge hopes he violates his terms so she can put him in jail until trial. I’m probably projecting... I hope he violates and gets to go back to county until trial.

From what I have read, the prosecution is using the data from his phone (geotags on photos showing he was on the lot) and the time stamps of the text messages he sent to other people to show that he was the one accessing the porn.  It sounded like they were saying something like this:

10:00 picture of car in car lot

10:05 text to ANNA

10:06 look at porn through the separate password protected section of the office computer

10:30 take picture

10:45 send more texts, and look at more porn - Download porn

 

All of this to show the time and place of the accessing of the porn and where he was according to his phone data while this was happening.  This would eliminate someone else doing it (at least that is what the government will try to prove if it goes to hearing).

@Phyllis Stein,  I've never seen a Tarot reading before although I thought that the person doing the reading was maybe letting Meechelle off too lightly.  The decks he was using was not the old Waite-Rider-Smith deck I used to have.  I could not begin to use them because they were too large for my small hands to shuffle.  Anyway, it was interesting to watch.

I don't speak with any authority, but I don't think the Rebers' duties involve keeping their charge alive.  Seems a bit much to ask of them.

As it is, they could be stuck with him for a long time, as there is no way this will be ready for trial in July.  So what exactly will Josh and Mrs. Rebers do all day?  Sit in the parlor, sipping tea and discussing their favorite parts of the Old Testament?  Will she teach him to knit? Will he be required to do any gardening, or will that set off his ankle bracelet?

I'm seriously having trouble seeing how this arrangement will work, especially if it takes a long time for this to go to trial or for Josh to take a plea. If my headship told me I had to manage such a situation, I'd say, shove it, buddy, I'm going to stay with my cousin in Sheboygan. Call me when your pedo buddy has found a more permanent home.

@JenniferJuniper I wonder that, too. If they rescind their offer he goes back to jail (per Emily Baker’s livestream earlier). She also said he could be with them for six months which is unbelievable. How does JB have such sway over them? They probably had no idea what it would actually entail but they learned it today and still agreed to it! Also, why is it suddenly just fine for JB for Josh to be alone with a woman who isn’t his wife?!*

I don't think the Rebers situation will last long. They are going to be on the receiving end of public exposure and perhaps criticism. I could see people taking out their frustration / disgust of Josh on them. I have no doubt that at least some paparazzo will be outside their house waiting for the money shot. All of which will get old really fast.

To your last question, apparently they have a young daughter at home who can chaperone.  She's over 18 so it's totally cool. (not making this up).  Not sure what Mr. R. is thinking here, but we know they prayed on it.

And it could last more than 6 months.  It's kind of up to Josh, but if he's going to fight before he takes a plea (and he probably will for awhile) his attorneys could a variety of motions with lots of back and forth.  Not a CP case, but as an example, Lori Loughlin was arrested in March of 2019 and didn't plead guilty until 14 months later.  These cases can move very slowly.

Yeah, I’m curious how long that answer to prayer will last. I think @So-Virgin-It-Hurts is probably right that they don’t have any idea what they’re actually in for and I second that it may not last long. Who knows though. They may love their “ministry” to him and think the paparazzi are simply proof of how godly they are for taking him in!

I feel bad for the Rebers’ SAHD. She is losing what little money she is likely allowed to make. Even if she moves her piano lessons to another location, she will likely to lose some students. Although, it is possible she believes her family can minister to and help Josh on his path back to Christ. What’s sad is that Mrs. Reber, who seems to have no agency of her own, is exactly the type of woman the Duggars raised their daughters to be and exactly the type of woman that married Josh. Her husband is her headship and her feelings are not important. My guess is Mrs. Reber is going to work hard at being gracious when Anna and the kids are spending all day, every day at her house.

Usually the way Covenant Eyes and other programs like that work is it’s a filter downloaded to all devices. It will flag content and send a list to a designated accountability partner - he idea being it’s a deterrent and the partner could reach out immediately if something was flagged. Sometimes it will send a whole browser history to the partner. It is looking for key words or site types to flag.

It also sometimes has blocking software so a user can’t access certain types of sites. 

Of course it’s imperfect and a user can get around it. Certainly if Josh was using Tor, those results were not being reported to whomever his accountability partner was. In evangelical circles it’s sometimes the wife as accountability but more often than not another man with maybe the wife seeing reports too. I’d guess Jim Bob would also be getting those reports. 
 

In my opinion  the filter is maybe a help for a tween supervised online or an adult really committed to avoiding porn. It’s easy to work around - the easiest way a to have a secret device that isn’t registered with the program...you don’t even have to be tech savvy to do that! 

 

Covenant Eyes has two parts: the filter that you described (which is optional) and it takes a screenshot of your screen every minute, blurs it, and sends it to their server for analysis.  Anything flagged as 'problematic' plus a random selection get sent to the accountability partner.  So using Tor wouldn't stop CE from likely catching anything bad that was visible on his screen for more than a few seconds.

But since CE is installed in Windows and he was at that time not running Windows, Covenant Eyes wasn't running at all at that time.

It is also fitting to mourn and grieve for those so horribly treated. (I mean there are no words to convey their abuse.) However, you can do that and also protect yourself going forward and decide how much you want to know about the case and what is just unbearable to you as an onlooker. That has to come into the light of day, but you are not responsible for prosecuting the case. Right now you are responsible for taking care of yourself.Wishing you peace.

I have not posted on here since this weekend, frankly because it was too hard to read everything all at once. I needed to take brakes and go on with daily life (cleaning my flat, going for a walk, working, cooking, etc.) because this whole story is so disturbing. If this whole thing affects you a lot, I hope hope you are able to go out and change your mind. Staying busy physically (jogging, walking) or just doing something manual like baking, taking care of my plants, etc, has helped me a lot, so maybe that can help you too. I needed to pause and focus on other (joyful) things, simply because otherwise, my brain was starting to brew some dark shit in my mind about the poor victims of CSA images and I really really really did not want to go there.

I simply wanted to say that all the CSA and SA survivors who shared on here with all of us, I find all of you to be simply amazing and strong individuals. I admire each and everyone of you. I was fortunate to grow up in a loving and healthy households, and was lucky to have not really experienced SA in my life. So overall, I have no past trauma related to any form of abuse, yet the past threads have been very unsettling to read. The only unfortunate experience I went through was an obscene phone call when I was maybe 8 or 9 YO, which really scared me. I remember the weird feeling, even as a kid, not understanding very well, yet knowing deep down that the phonecall was wrong and it wasn't suppose to be this way. What I'm trying to say is that having lived that, and having had that horrible feeling of shame and fear through a phonecall, I can't imagine having been victim of more aggravating and serious SA and still be able to share and talk about it. You really got all my admiration. So to anyone who feels troubled and triggered by this whole story, well my heart goes out to you and I hope you are doing your best to protect your mental health. In a way, I also extend those feelings to Josh's previous victims and I feel for them.

I went to bed after the first witness was posted so I had to catch up on the rest this morning.

Got to admit, meeting all your adorable pets makes me feel a bit better. I want to boop! all their lil noses

 

Now there is now way most of his siblings will stand by him this time if they saw the hearing or had access to transcript. They've got their own kids to protect, and they'll want to protect their younger siblings and the M'kids. I could see a couple of them staying silent to keep getting the J'money but I expect most of them to pull a Jill&Derrick and ditch the Pest. 

 

I can't stop thinking about that photo of the girl cousins Anna posted last month. All those sweet baby girls and toddlers, there's no way their parents aren't going to do everything they can to protect them!

I’m catching up on this thread while watching my 7yr old daughter at ice skating classes with a group of other 6-9 year olds. The thought of little girls this age being violated like that makes me feel sick with rage and grief. Those children.

I clicked a few spoilers but haven’t looked up the names of anyone mentioned or to find any more details of the “infamous” material, thank you to those who warned against reading, because it will be hard enough to sleep tonight as it is. Josh is a despicable, vile excuse for a human. I do think it’s still valid to discuss his upbringing and toxic evangelical attitudes to sex and parents who totally failed him and how he was taught to victim blame from an early age. Not because it’s any excuse, but because fundamentalism is an enabler of abusers, a dangerous enabler, and I will not let the narrative become “Josh was one bad apple and the other 18 weren’t pedos so it wasn’t the Duggars’ fault”.
