Any of the people he's fired on the Appentice

Dr. Faunci- I'm not fired! Your fired!

John Oliver-he'll probably have a very awesome song to go with it

Oprah-Your Fired! Your Fired! Your all fired!

Hillary Clinton

And there's always Kuzco from the Emperor's New Groove.

Kuzco: Oh, and by the way, you're fired.

Yzma: Fired? W-W-What do you mean, "fired"?

Kuzco: Um, how else can I say it? "You're being let go." "Your department's being downsized." "You're part of an outplacement." "We're going in a different direction." "We're not picking up your option." Take your pick. I got more.

This post is a delight.

I'll add another option, since I recently watched this. Rene Auberjonois, as Odo, in the baseball episode of ST-DS9, which is especially appropriate as it is about a man (Sisko) maturing past an adolescent rivalry to enjoy real teamwork and affection between colleagues (he hasn't yet, at this point in the story):

There's a whole series of tweets by this guy, talking about the US election the way the US media talks about this kind of stuff in Africa. It's a point excellently made.

As someone in Illinois I really don't like dangling down there surrounded on 3 sides by a hostile nation.  And after this shit show we need to reconfigure the boarders to save GA.

And in reality, I know everything much south of Chicago, along with Northern California, and Eastern Washington and Oregon would rather join Jesusland than Canada. We would have to figure out a way to get from San Francisco on South while avoiding the central valley. I like admitting the whole states because we should be fine for food, but I'm a bit worried that parts of the states wouldn't want to come with us.

One of my company’s secret questions is “Name of the first person you kissed”. Just to be obstinate, I put my mom’s first name. I had considered using MYOB.

Drat, having quoting issues on my phone, so this is a reply to the comment below. Don’t forget Northern Virginia, we made sure VA went blue. We don’t want to be part of a proposed Drumplandia.

Biden's speech tonight.  It's like a warm protective hug in video form.

I missed it live but found it online about half an hour ago.  I had forgotten how good it was to *want* to hear the President speak.  And no, I didn’t get misty when he was done; I had cat hair in my eye........

I love that episode! I’d also like to see Avery Brooks as Sisko punch Twitler like he punched Q.

He really has a good heart. You can see so clearly that he is in this for the people he serves. Not for himself.

Just in case anyone needs something new to read or is interested in exactly why it will be good for Australia to have Biden as the US President ... climate change. There are many reasons, but Biden will put pressure on our PM to fall into line with the Paris agreement. Trump was Morrison’s ally, and now Morrison will be a bit of a loner with his backwards ways.

So I wonder how many of these new cases are in places where Trump recently held rallies.

Every time I see news like this I think "karma" and then worry.  I live near DC and who tf knows where the staffers and those near to them live, shop, etc.  I double-masked in the stores a few days ago and am planning to do the same for the foreseeable future.

@HerNameIsBuffy I have to admit, I never heard of Family Affair until today. But I looked it up and it does fit in pretty well with my mom's childhood... she says she doesn't know where it came from, tho.

I never knew that about Susan Oleson! :( But I guess when you're trying to make something look good for TV, you're not thinking about comfort.

I would be calling in sick just to avoid being around Trump's tantrums right now.

I would be very much in favour of the United States of Canada! I bet they would love to have an island.

I actually think they are just being extra careful with the counting + validating signatures on absentee ballots,  plus I'm wondering about staffing. Are they paid? Do they have enough people? There's a pandemic. And no matter what the "final" count is, Bush v Gore and the 2000 election is still hanging over everyone's head, like some sort of sword of damocles/hanging chad. I'd rather they take their time, and get it right. If it's close enough, there's going to be a recount. There's likely going to be lawsuits, but if they don't have cause for a lawsuit, it won't go anywhere.

The electoral college votes December 14, and all disputes must be completed by the 8th. So a state, could, in theory, drag it out a bit to cut down some costs, and if everything is in the state's favor, they don't lose the public's trust.

:my bold above:

I think you nailed it.

Can we also swing down through the central part of NC? To pick up the I-85 corridor through Charlotte. The Republicans have already gerrymandered out the borders so it should be pretty easy.

Per reddit a lot of Trump supporters are posting how they want to leave the country now.

I love how they think they have many options to do that. I am also bemused that Australia is coming up as an option - they do know we have gun regulation, socialised health-care and compulsory voting, right?

I get states running state elections their own way but you'd think there should be some consistency for a FEDERAL election.

I’m very interested to see how the conservatives who are praising the new Supreme Court judge (a Catholic who is a wonderful Christian) will say the opposite of Me Biden, just because he is Catholic.

Exactly. So where does that leave Amy Coney Barrett?

A useful tool that they secretly (or not so secretly) despise.

I mean, the US population is almost 60 times that of Finland, so comparing time to get the results is a little unfair

Also I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that Finland doesn't have multiple elections across three levels of government all going on in the same election. Plus voting on propositions and other things. Seriously I thought two ballot papers (one admittedly huge) was a lot to work through, the election booklet I saw in 2000 was an eye opener!

I've been so focused on the presidential race, that I hadn't even checked what happened with my local races. No clear winner in some of them, so now we'll have a run-off election. That means I'll get even more flyers in the mail where the candidates fight over which one of them loves Trump the most.

Hopefully some will start sensing the shift and distancing themselves, even subtly.

Mark Meadows has Covid and apparently several contacts first learned it from this story.

The Trump election night might turn out to be a super spreader event.

Many European countries hold more than one election on the same day? I certainly have voted for government, state and local representatives at the same time. I think I recall one instance when the European election was thrown into the mix too but I might misremember. We had so many elections in a short time span a couple of years ago. We do use separate ballots though. So I agree, from what I see, the system isn’t working efficiently. I don’t recall any European election where the counting took longer than 24h (most have solid predictions around 8-22 PM). We do take our time building a government though...

Counting aside, I have never voted in an election where I had to wait more than half an hour to cast my vote. And when there are long lines, it’s due to the time of day, not a constant situation at that polling booth. The same poll workers who mark off electoral rolls & hand out ballots earlier in the day are the ones there counting votes after the polls close. So I think America needs more polling places with more staff and that would speed up this process too.

Also, while it’s unusual in Australia to not have a result within the day, that’s mostly because the margin is big enough to call the election. It doesn’t necessarily mean every vote has been counted yet. If the US used the popular vote this would have been called for a Biden days ago and as others have pointed out, they’re still counting in solidly red or blue states too. I know Australian senate results often take a week or two because counting preferential voting between 100+ candidates to pick 6 is... a process.

Regarding the USC. There's no good way to get to Az's blue islands. Maybe we can just emigrate? I'd love anything in the redwoods or Cascades.

I think the longest I've waited is about an hour, after which I went "do not turn up at 10am to the nearest polling station to the shopping centre". Where I am now the democracy sausage wait is usually slightly longer than the queue to vote. (Speaking of that @Smee did you see the Chaser article on democracy sausage fraud? I laughed so much).
