I've read here that once upon a time Josie and Alyssa (I think, I could have one or both incorrect) had their own little side bedroom or something because of noisiness, as the story goes. If true, Josie could be over-stimulated by more than just noise -- it could be visual, too. It is within the realm of possibilities that Josie is trying to be as easy on her brain as possible. More likely is that she wants to be trendy or appear to be trendy and beige is one way to express that. Her preferences will evolve as she ages.

If beige allows her to feel better, whether it is for sensory or or any transient reason, that's OK. I'm a beige person, leave us alone, lol. We can visit your over-stimulating house then return home and feel good and comfy.

She may also find it easier. Or maybe she wants her kids to be able to decide what colors they will want.

I'm a beige person who likes her browns, creams, maybe a soft green or two for variety. My living room is filled with leather sofa/loveseat, sage green chairs, wood tones for the tables and entertainment center. The rug is browns and creams (with a hint of green). I appreciate that Josie has always (on the show at least) been less of country/rustic and more soft and soothing (to me). Other than the fireplace thing, she hasn't had Erin over to decorate. It's nice to see her express something off brand for the family - even if it isn't something everyone would do.

She does seem to be a little more sensitive to noises and stimulation than her other siblings.

Going back to Alyssa and Josie sharing a small bedroom. I think many of us thought that meant they were close with each other. However, it's more probably they had nothing more in common than just wanting a quiet space away from the chaos. Now that they are out of the big house, they may just not have a close relationship. Doesn't mean something happened or there is ill-will.

Josie said on her stories that she'd done an at-home blood test to find out the baby's sex, but because those aren't always reliable they are waiting until after the anatomy scan to confirm and announce it.

The genetic specialist seems to be a separate issue.

My last apartment had light beige walls... with beige carpet. Dark brown tile in the bathroom. Checked tile in the kitchen - light beige and medium beige.
Josie would have loved it.
It drove me crazy (also, why put carpet in the entryway?!)

Why put carpet at all? ?

(I simply prefer a home without carpets. Personal opinion: I just find it easier to clean. Nothing wrong if you like carpets at home.)

My question as well! It just seemed so messy.

I've vowed to never have a carpeted apartment again - even if it's 'just' the bedroom.*

* I recently saw one with a carpeted bathroom.

OMG, what a mess.  My mom carpeted both the bathroom and the kitchen back in the '70's.  The bathroom carpet was taken out after a while because having five children, two of them boys, meant that eventually some urine would be spilled and then what?  Not to mention the bath water that would spill out on the floor.  Eventually the room smelled like moldy piss.

The kitchen carpet lasted longer, until the fridge sprang a leak and we had wet carpet that carried the ingrained soil out so there was a wet spot that was obviously cleaner than the rest of the room, pretty much advertising the fact that she didn't rent a carpet cleaner very often.

It's best not to mention it unless you want to get an epic stink-eye from Mom.

I am all for hard flooring in the rest of the house, but you'd have to pry the carpet in my bedroom out from under my cold, dead feet. I hate getting out of bed and stepping on cold or hard, to the point that I have my bathmats strategically placed so I can get from the bedroom to the toilet without stepping on the cold tile. And if I'm going to need an area rug to cover the entirety of my bedroom anyway, I might as well have carpet. But I don't have pets or kids (yet) and we never wear our shoes upstairs, so it's pretty easy to keep clean at this point.

I couldn’t live in an apartment with carpet. I just find it hideous. Like up there with plastic blinds hideous. Also my husband has a dust allergy, so he can’t be around carpet.

I love having wood floors. I don’t find them hard or cold, although I’m never barefoot in winter anyway. And they’re so pretty.

Me too. I prefer wooden floors and some nice area rugs.

I always notice houses in the US are rarely carpeted. Or the ones I have seen anyway! In the UK it’s the norm to have carpets, particularly upstairs. I can’t imagine stepping out of bed onto cold wooden/tiled floors but our downstairs is all wood floor and tiles as it’s easier to clean!

edited to add that my parents used to have carpet in their bathroom, I’d never given it a second thought until this thread! But looking back, it was pretty gross ?

For that matter, people with tiled floors have slippers or a little rug that can be washed in the washing machine. I'm not a germanophobe but a floor that can be mooped and washed makes me feel "safer". I have kids and sometimes they have puked at night. I can't even imagine what would have happened if the floor had been carpeted.

I hadn’t thought of that, thank you. I’m not a germaphobe either but come back to me when I’ve had to deal with my first puking upstairs incident (I only have one toddler at the moment) and I may have done a 180 on the decision for carpets!

Carpet cleaners are readily available to rent, at least in the US, and they are relatively cheap to purchase one for your home. I’ve had one for years and I used it frequently when my daughter was young and we had a cat that vomited a lot.

While carpet feels better on your bare feet hardwood is better if you have kids or dogs. My big dog, bless his heart, was super muddy two years ago on Halloween night. He was 1 then. He ran into the house before I could stop him. He got his wet muddy self all over the house. He ran in circles and jumped on the couch. 87EE72AC-4666-415A-8784-C8BC1C97CC2E.thumb.jpeg.a08c01b4bae7c8237893f8ecbc67a9da.jpeg

Hagrid on the muddy couch.

We did not want a place that had carpet. We want to get a dog and that would have been a nightmare! We have cute slippers and fuzzy socks to keep our feet warm. We might get a roomba!

When we bought our house we knew there were original floorboards (over 100 years old) under the manky carpet. We ripped it up, polished them and put down some rugs. I will admit we kept carpet in the bedrooms, it’s too cold here in winter not to (Australian houses are not built for cold temperature and only some new homes have central heating - we have a wood fire). We have a Roomba, it picks up all of the dog hair. I’d highly recommend one.

Back in the 70s/80s I had a friend whose family had wall to wall orange shag carpeting in their one bathroom.  I thought that was extremely bizarre.

We had carpeting in our kitchen in the late 70s/early 80s.  But it was low pile, commercial carpeting.  When we bought the house in 1978 the original tenants had carpeting in the kitchen, which we kept and then my parents replaced it with updated commercial carpeting.  I thought that was strange too-both times.

Shag carpet there is a trip down memory lane. I used to have to rake it as one of my chores.

I live in a condo and I have wood floors in living/dining area and carpet upstairs. I'd live to switch the carpet to laminate or vinyl, whatever the cheap planks are. But alas I cannot afford it right now.

PSA-

One of the biggest(if not the biggest) trip hazard, particularly for the elderly, is throw rugs. Yep, I have them too. Be careful !

We cannot have carpet because of my SO's asthma. However, if he wouldn't have had asthma we still wouldn't have gotten carpet, as it is much more difficult to clean than vinyl (which we have now). Carpet cleaners aren't easily rentable here + we're both messy eaters. We would have preferred laminate flooring, but that wasn't allowed in our appartment complex without an extremely expensive sound-dampening under-layer.
As for getting out of the bed and potentially stepping on a cold floor: you just put a tiny rug next to your bed, or slippers? I don't really see the problem there, tbh.
