Dillards 55: Selling the High Life

Yeah, that’s just a stupid choice to take the kids when they’re sick. I get it, it was Izzy’s birthday and you wanted the family together to celebrate. Sometimes things don’t work out and you have to be an adult by sucking it up and making the best of it though. You could easily still make his actual birthday special at home where he’s comfortable without his dad there and then celebrate again when he is home.

Jill walking on the course makes me cringe. I would've screamed at her had I been running.

I feel bad for anyone who was near dWRECK when he had to stop to vomit on the side of the road.

When they showed him gagging while he was still " volunteering " on the show, he had to stop, drop and gag.  It was nasty.  Poor fellow runners.  Or, did god cure him?

I picture this tune in a Sponge Bob way.

People like this make me ill...literally. Thanks to certain health issues, I don't leave home much because I can't afford to get sick. One person's cold is my bronchitis, or worse. To knowingly take your sick children into public spaces because you, the parent, don't want to miss out on some fun is unacceptable and selfish. Unnecessarily exposing others to germs is not What Jesus Would Do. He would wait until he was no longer contagious to get his waffle fries fix. I'm sure of it.

The kids don't feel well, but let's march them in the sun to a Chick-Fil-A over an hour away so they can play on the playground and infect many other kids! Brilliant idea--Yay, Jill!

This is monstrously unfair to those kids; I doubt much slack is given for fussy behavior even though they don't feel well. To me, those pictures of Israel holding his head and looking miserable have so much more context now.

I hope Derick gagged his way across the finish line.

Yeah there were several people right behind him and she carelessly walked right up to him and was in the lane for several seconds, I'm surprised no one ran into her or brushed against her. If they had I know she would have been ignorantly flabbergasted though.

Did they fly? Flying with a cold is painful for an adult. I can't imagine how it is for a small child. Also, way to spread germs through the plane. If they didn't fly, it was still unnecessary to take sick kids anywhere.

they uploaded some small clips from the marathon. here are two I am sharing because it shows a bit of their house.

this one is after the video we already saw. Jill had brought the kids back and was waiting to go back out to meet Derick later at another mile marker

this is from after they got home from the race.  they mention that Jim Bob and Michelle were there.

Spoiler

To counterbalance my bitch comment, I will say that Jill has the thickest hair I have ever seen and I once again have major hair envy.  I would not, however, trade my average, boring hair with hers if it meant I had to also take her #doucheofahubby

This makes me angry too! I can’t imagine how many germs they spread around the hotel, chik fila and all over Colorado Springs in general. And kids that young are not good about covering their mouths when they cough , either. Once again, this just confirms how absolutely clueless Jill and Derek are about things. They have no common sense. And if you are going to do something so stupid, why post about it and even mention the kids were sick? We would never have known if they didn’t mention it.

As a middle school teacher, going out with sick kids drives me crazy. I can’t tell you how many times parents send their sick kids to school with a fever, cough, throwing up, etc. A lot of times they do it because they don’t want to or can’t  take a day off work and have nobody to watch the kids. I know it’s hard for many parents to get a babysitter or take off work but sending kids to school sick is so unfair to the poor kid and everyone else.

I think Jill and the kids were going to Colorado regardless of whether it wAs Izzy’s birthday or not.  That was just an excuse. There was no way Jill was going to stay home and miss all the festivities.  She has to be attached to Derek’s hip at all times. She is a stage 5 clinger. It’s painful to watch.

Jill nor Derick have Zero sense. that's clear. there was no need for her to tell everyone she walked over an hour to get chick fila. but she did it. there was no need to  for her to say they forgot Izzy's gloves but there she went.

no need for her to mention the kids being sick but once again they speak of it. Also if they talk about Izzy seeing snow for the first time anymore. They have seen snow in AR before Izzy has seen snow in AR. it's always the first for snow with them. Jessa is the same way.

Jumping in a couple of pages late, but @Beermeet and @feministxtian, making note of those restaurants in LV.   We are often stumped on what's good and what's not, Mr. No doesn't generally like buffets but he will go if others recommend.   Had one friend who knew which casinos had the best buffets but she moved back to the Midwest a few years ago.

We have friends that live a little bit south of Eastern and Sahara plus there's my sister in St. George UT so we have flown into McCarran quiet often.  There's more to Vegas than the strip that's for sure, we have gone to Red Rock and Valley of Fire, haven't made it to Mt. Charleston yet.

We're on the other end of Sahara, well, north of Sahara, off Rainbow. There's another Macayo's on Charleston, east of the 15, but I don't like that one as much as the one on Sahara. There's other Black Bear diners at Tropicana and Jones, Las Vegas Blvd (near the south premium outlets) and one on Green Valley & Sunset in Henderson...never been to those, the one on Sahara is like 5 minutes from us and in the same shopping center where we go grocery shopping. Aliante is up north, WAY up north near where we're looking at houses. Red Rock is supposed to be pretty good too. We look for umm...economical buffets. I've heard The Cannery on Craig Rd is good. We try to stay away from the chain restaurants that we'd eaten at elsewhere in the country. Oh, and of course, In and Out is to DIE for, I don't care what anyone else says. Their prices are still about the best for fast food too. 2 double doubles, fries and medium drinks for less than 14 bucks, WITH tax. It's like 17 if you get the burgers and fries animal style.

***coming from a comment in another forum...I think y'all can tell I really DO live in LV...the last place on earth I ever thought I'd live...and after 3.5 years, I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Having a hard time making my brain work today so forgive the formatting of this post!

The blog said "we decided to bring the whole family along, even if that meant that, with the little ones in tow, we wouldn’t get to participate all together in every outreach opportunity."

So essentially they dragged sick kiddos halfway across the country knowing full well there was no place or purpose for them being there other than...? Jill's clinginess? Poor kids!!

She probably rats it to make it look fuller. My hair is super thick and my braids still only get that thick if I rat the hair.

I'm sure the organizers were thrilled that on a trip they planned/designed for late teens/twentysomethings, two asshats decided that an infant and a toddler should come along.

I know we probably would have given Derick shit for going solo (though I'd give him shit mainly because it seems like he's jetting off somewhere every other week when he should GET A GODDAMN JOB), but Jill could have easily stayed home with the kids, or even pawned them off to the remaining sister-moms if she really, really couldn't go five minutes without Crusty the Failed Accountant.

Maybe they bring Jill and the kids everywhere not because jill wants to be with Derick all the time, but because she cannot stay home alone at night(s). Anxiety and such.

To a point maybe, in that for some people no matter what Derick and Jill do is wrong. But I honestly think that had Derick or Jill posted that the boys were sick, they didn't want to subject them to flying or different air quality, or sheer boredom, so they were staying home, that would probably have gone over at least a little better. People still would have snarked and said he needs a real job but it doesn't look as heartless as what they actually did.

I have major Jessa hair envy...  Also, Jessa has great pouty lips like Angelina Jolie. Mine are so much thinner and so is my hair! Jessa was really blessed with gorgeous looks and could have easily been a famous model. Jill has a very “girl next door” beautiful look as well. They are all just so fortunate in terms of their appearance!

Not necessarily.  My hair is super thick too, and my single braids look that thick, even if I've straightened it to reduce the volume.

I'm just impressed the Duggar girls all manage such long hair with postpartum hair loss.

She’s shorter than that. Jill is the tallest daughter right now and she’s right around 5’6”. Jessa is probably closer to 5’4”.

Major hair envy over here too. I joke I never got grown up hair because my is really fine. It’s also usually pretty straight and frizzy, which means it usually looks a bit of a mess even when I try to make it look nice. I really just need to chop it all off, but that probably wouldn’t help either. :pb_lol:

(But yeah. If having great hair is only possible by joining the cult then I’ll keep my hot mess hair. Lol!)

Devon Aoki is 5'5" and she made it happen.  Not all kinds of modeling require height.

His time was about 4:40. Someone on PTV looked it up.

Which isn't bad at all!

Running a full is hard as fuck. I did an ultra trail half this last weekend and it was almost as bad as a full marathon!!

So props to him! he runs them faster than I do!

my hair is very straight and I can get a thick braid like that too, no ratting (which I'd never do, ack, I'd have to brush my hair after!)
