Derick ran a Marathon

but before that Jill made him  a meal  and they are matching.

Poor Sam still looks worried about where he landed in life with these two.

I watched most of the video. Did anyone else catch that she was yelling, “mira,” to the kids. Look, in Spanish. I wouldn’t have posted a video saying, I love you, to someone and not getting any response, but other than that, it was a normal exchange. Derick managed to seem pretty normal for 5 seconds.

Kudos to Derick for running a marathon. At least he’s still doing something physically active. It would be great to see Jill running, too, though. Jinger picked up tennis with Jeremy. Joy skied one time, and Austin is athletic. Is Ben the only unathletic son-in-law?

I think I remember something about him playing football on a team of homeschoolers.

Ben is athletic. He played football in high school (which wasn't that long ago, lol) and he seems to work out regularly and generally care about health and fitness.

Is it BEC of me to be irritated by Jill going "YAAAAYYYYYY" at her kids constantly? As someone who studied linguistics I understand that Infant/Child-Directed Speech is a definite thing and it would feel pretty unnatural for most people to not speak to a child in a higher-pitched voice with much more exaggerated emphasis/stress/prosody, but aaarrrgh you can talk to your three-year-old like a normal person and not say "YAAAAAYYYYYY" every third word to him.

Every. single. time. I say "yay!" to my toddler I think of Jill. I mean it's natural to do that with a LO, but you're right, she does it so much it's almost like her catch-phrase.

My GD turned 4 today.  My daughter never did baby talk, ever (and received kudos from her Pediatrician).  The difference between by GD's speech and annunciation even at 3, vs Izzy, night and day. Izzy sounds "stuffed up" to me.  Further, my GD is bilingual and has 2 working parents. Maybe the D's don't speak much to their kids? Some people don't-

Ben went to HS? I thought he was homeschooled?

Not that he said very much in the video, but I was actually surprised by how good Izzy's speech is, considering the way Jill apparently speaks to him. I'm not really around kids very much, so I'm certainly not the best person to judge. But at least he spoke in a complete, correct sentence. From the way Jill talks, that's more than I would have expected. :kitty-wink:

According to the comments Derrick still gags while running. Ugh. I guess I'm somewhat thinking a little impressively about him still running. Somewhat.

Too late to edit my prior post, but Derelict's time was actually much better than what I posted. He finished in 4:16.something, so a good 20-plus minutes better than I previously posted. Not bad.

I guess this explains why he's so vague about his job and school. He obviously had enough time to train to run a marathon in a very respectable time. Hopefully, Jill the Barnacle wasn't with him every step of the way.

I don't really follow the Bateses, so I can't comment on that. And I know that all of them - Bateses, Duggars, and assorted in-laws - are in the end parading their children in front of various cameras for fame and money.

However, in Jessa's case it's rather subtle. She will share videos and pictures of her sons the way many mothers do on social media. She may have advertised a product once or twice with them (you'll remember better than I do ;) ), but it generally comes across as warm and loving, just some other mum showing the world how cute her babies are and what adorable things they do.

The Dillards' posts, on the other hand, are so obviously and aggressively sponsored/aimed at grifting: "Here's Israel with a book, he's smiling which means it's good, buy said book"

Perhaps the Dillards are simply being more honest and straightforward, etc., but  something irks me. The fact that the interactions they show with their children seem so often so very off, out of tune with the boys, probably. I guess in the end the Seewalds seem to genuinely care about their children and "accidentally" profit from them whereas the Dillards come across as slightly uncaring about their sons' actual needs, yet trying to use them for monetary gain.

Disclaimer: I use "seem" and "come across" as the Dillards might actually be the kindest, most caring parents in the world, but if this is the case, they are terrible at communicating it.

Lol! I don’t remember if Jessa specifically hawked products. What I meant is that her social media presence (and the other’s) is crafted to promote the show and that IBLP and the show are the “products” she’s advertising. She’s basically doing exactly what Jill is with those book posts. Same with some of their family members and the Bateses - they’re all using minor children to “sell” their way of life to others. They just get away with it for the most part because they’re much more subtle than Jill is.

I do think the Seewalds love their kids, but I also don’t think there’s anything accidental about them profiting off them either. Same with the rest of the Duggars and Bateses. They’ve all made a conscious decision to put their kids on reality television and use them to earn money.

(So, I’m pretty sure we’re on the same exact page. Lol!)

Great marathon time. I did a couch to half marathon about 15 years ago and My time was 2:30, so good for DD. My husband ran a marathon during a storm with torrential, freezing rains and his time was 4:50...but he was in his forties.

These two have the most obnoxious fundie tshirt collection. The I survived Roe V. Wade shirts, Jill's wifey shirt, Derick's ask me for help shirt, Derick's wooden spoon shirt, and now these mama and papa bear shirts. I am sure I am missing some too.

Gotta defend Izzy here, I think he speaks very well for a kid who literally just turned three last week. Even when they were in CA he seemed pretty articulate. It could just be that your granddaughter is super advanced for her age so it's skewing the curve a little bit for you.

If I were married to Jill, I would say “Gotta go running, babe!” at every possible opportunity.

Jumping in a couple of pages late, but @Beermeet and @feministxtian, making note of those restaurants in LV.   We are often stumped on what's good and what's not, Mr. No doesn't generally like buffets but he will go if others recommend.   Had one friend who knew which casinos had the best buffets but she moved back to the Midwest a few years ago.

We have friends that live a little bit south of Eastern and Sahara plus there's my sister in St. George UT so we have flown into McCarran quiet often.  There's more to Vegas than the strip that's for sure, we have gone to Red Rock and Valley of Fire, haven't made it to Mt. Charleston yet.

Jill and Derick have new photo's up from CO and a new blog up. Jill and boys tagged along because of Izzy's birthday:roll:, and not only are Jill and Derick Selfish self centered twits they are also horrible parents as seen by the fact that they took their sick children with them here's a plan Jill stay home with your sick kids and Derick can celebrate with Izzy when he gets home if he even has to go at all.  so not only did Jill walk over an hour to chick fila she walked it with sick children, and forgot sick Izzy's gloves.

Since Israel was going to be turning three the week we were there, we decided to bring the whole family along, even if that meant that, with the little ones in tow, we wouldn’t get to participate all together in every outreach opportunity. Jill and the boys stayed at the hotel some and were able to get together with some family friends part of the time too. The boys ended up starting the trip out with coughs and colds, and by the end, our whole little family had it!

Plus they had already celebrated with Izzy before the trip. with both Cathy and the Duggar's  and Derick wasn't even there for the birthday breakfast they had and if you watch the video's at the play site he doesn't seem very involved there either.
