@seraaa, you should probably get Nancy's The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate out of the library too.  They are both good novels and worth reading.

As @Lurky said,  Hons and Rebels does have its faults.  Decca is slapping Nancy in the face with a wet kipper for those novels.  She is correcting the narrative - with an axe!  She has her own exaggerations.  Still love her.

The more I think about it @Georgiana is right.  The Boyers have a lot in common with the Mitfords.

They are just not as intelligent and talented.

Nancy's novels are great, it will be interesting to see how they compare. I'll bear that in mind!

For all they praised Brigid at the start, the stuff about how their singing career fell apart - because Brigid married - makes them seem bitter that she left them.

That's such an odd rationale. Will people only hire retro singers in groups of 3, not 2?

I do think it'd be harder to get gigs with two female voices than three, especially given the genre of music they performed. Trios allow for more harmonic variety, meaning less dependence on backing musicians -- and much of what they covered was originally popularized by the Andrews Sisters (three voice parts).  Even in recent decades I can think of substantially more three-member female groups than two-member ones. That's not to say female duos can't succeed (a la Indigo Girls, Tegan and Sara... I was going to say Salt n Pepa, but even they had Spinderella as a third member, basically), but three voices (or more) do tend to be more successful. This list bears that out:  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_all-female_bands

I've lurked for ages and literally just joined because Jessica is wearing skinny jeans and a t-shirt in their vlog that went up today and I was really surprised!

I actually thought their video from the other week was pretty interesting just in how much they've changed and what they think now about their life then. I mean, they're still pretty self-absorbed and ridiculous, but I'm wondering if they're starting to shift from fundie to generic conservative.

Her own t-shirt that is. It says "stop, drop & oil" (and something with b.well) Why is it that everything with Young Living sounds so dirty? Like all the hashtags on IG. #oilyadventure.

Is Charlotte really gluten-intolerant, or is she just saying it?

I know we've discussed the lack of friends their age before, but this post reminded me of this bizarre aspect of their lives.

I would never use the term #squadgoals for what appears to be a babysitting outing. And what kind of "really hard times" are they sharing with girls that look to be 7-14? If they're actually sharing all the miserable details of their failed platonic relationships with children, it makes me dislike them even more.

Also, I remember a while back when someone said something about how they had such "American" smiles, and it was so funny to me because (as an American) I never in a million years would have thought of that as being a thing, but I totally saw what that person meant. And that smile she has there is American as fuck. Girl, calm down. Nothing is that happy.

I can see having 14-15 year old friends for Charlotte, if she was involved in different school activities (music, drama, art, language club, speech and debate, Student Council, sports!) at the local high school, or even through their church’s youth group. I befriended plenty of underclassmen through shared activities when I was an upperclassman.

But 22-Year-old Jessica being included in this odd grouping?

How is this going to play out as Jessica and Charlotte begin to peddle oils to these girls (-and their unsuspecting parents)?

I totally get what you're saying. Growing up, I hung out a lot with my sister and her classmates 3 grades below me and considered them friends. But nonetheless it strikes me as odd that they're never around people their own age, and I can only think of the following reasons:

A. Their church is pretty small and there are no other teenagers/young adults to socialize with.

B. They relate better to the maturity level of younger girls (cf. the totally serious blog post about making fairy gardens with little girls)

C. they like being admired and looked up to, rather than find friends their age, which is both insecure and narcissistic.

@Coy Koi Aw!  I wish I could like that gift 20 times! :my_biggrin::my_biggrin::my_biggrin::my_biggrin:

And I'm with @usedbicycle, that caption doesn't go with that picture at all!  It's the sort of thing I'd put with a picture of my schoolfriends, if social media was around back then.  But the idea of leaning on all those younger girls for emotional support is crazy!

Because of the music stuff I did, I was friends with people in different school years, my sisters' friends and so on, and when I was 17 I would sometimes chat on the bus with a 12 year old girl who lived near me - but that was more like an unofficial mentor.  I might have told the younger kids things I'd been going through, but more in a way of saying "and I got through it"/offering advice to them about their own stuff, not at all expecting them to stick close to me during hard times...

What a coincidence Brigid dearie!  I took was sitting by the hearth last evening whilst my dear husband mended his chain maille. Usually, our squire, Alfred, would mend the chain maille, but  he took an arrow to the thigh last month in that pesky battle with Queen Maud's forces and died of gangrene.

Sigh, good  help is so hard to find these days, isn't?

Oh my! Dearie, next time that happens be sure to send your fastest messenger to my castle and I'll send him back to you with some essential oils. A dash of patchouli blended with a little peppermint would've cleared Alfred's gangrene up in a jiffy! Works okay on bubonic plague, too. Blessings!

I'm much more into modern medicine. Leaches and blood letting are the only way to cure gangrene.

How dare he be so high in the step to die on you? He could have at least cleaned the chain maille first.

I am afraid you mistake my squire. His name is Joshua not Alfred and he hasn't taken an arrow yet, in fact he was helping me mend my armour in preparation for our next adventure. :)

Stop, drop and oil? That doesn't even make sense. I hope they have more long term plans besides shilling snake oil, giggling like crazy, bashing Brigid and waiting for a guy to marry them.

It's good that he survived. Alfred is a dreadfully unlucky name. :P

I don't know. I am a pretty big fan of Alfred the Great.

Hahah! I was thinking more Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Meh, I'm iffy on Alfred the Great. ;)
