He gives me Wilmer Valderamma vibes in a bad way.

Apparently I have been out of the Hollywood gossip circle for long enough that I had to Googie this.

30-something actor loves them and leaves them, a pitiful trail of pieces of hearts....

I had no idea of the Wilmer reference.

Since the D-clan had a courtship misfire along with all their other baggage over the last year, perhaps they are "finally" announcing a year-old relationship (it has taken root?)

I am ready for the first bitter ex-girlfriend of his who wants a slice of fame, to come out with a juicy story about JerBear.

He asked to court her in December. They announce this NOW in... June.... I bet they are already engaged! He also said he had his eye on Jinger since she was, " everything they said only confirmed what I had already been seeing: a humble, meek, modest, intelligent young woman with a burning desire to sacrificially serve the Lord in any way she could." (Per his blog)

Jeremy isn't a virgin. So he knows what to do on the honeymoon. Hope she won't be in pain.

I'm still shocked by this. You would think Jimhovah would want nothing bit the best for his virginal brides.

Regarding the Lawson tweets, could he be snarking on everyone who thought there was a Lawson- Jinger courtship?

That photo of Jinger with the Boobs makes me retch.  Not quite as much as the selfie Boob took in the car with them, though. The smugness oozes from him.

I did lol a bit at the group shot because Jinger seems to be clenching her hand so as not to accidently touch Jeremy in an ungodly place.

I have several thoughts about this:

1. I bet Jill is trying desperately to get pregnant so she can be visibly pregnant at this wedding too. (Or if the speculation is correct that she is already pregnant, I predict a pregnancy announcement one day before or after Jinger's engagement announcement.

2. I don't understand why people assume Jeremy is mature just because he went to college and has had real-world experience. I know a lot of men who are in their late 20's (and even 30's and 40's) who have tons of real-world life experiences who have the maturity of a 14-year-old boy. It remains to be seen whether he is mature or not.

3. Jinger really isn't that sheltered. She's experienced horrific things (sexual abuse, physical abuse, having her childhood exploited on TV, being forced to raise children from the age of 7.) She may be emotionally stunted in a lot of ways because of the cult she was raised in, but she has had to deal with difficult adult situations for years thanks to her crappy parents. She actually might have trouble relating to most people closer to her age because she's been dealing with adult issues for so long.  It's a weird combo of being a 12-year-old and a 40-year-old. Which brings me to my next point:

4. The Duggar parents have effed up their children so badly that they would probably struggle to have a stable relationship with anyone, even if they married someone non-Fundie. Which is not to say that they don't have the ability to go on and eventually have stable lives and relationships, but that it will probably be a struggle for them no matter what the circumstances.

Finally made it through all the posts, which made me think this thread might be longer than their time frame to the altar. I found his whole rhetoric about his downgrade in skills reminiscent of Tim Tebow talk. This sense of God has this path for me and why listen to coaches or try a new position. A personal aside for listeners of Dogma Debate how awesome would it be to have David Smalley interview the two of them. I can hear the iconic sigh which in a sound encapsulates the WTF he so wants to utter.

That is what they say.  They also say that Michelle is a great mom and that Jinger can flip cars.

I don't doubt they are friendly, but men over 21 rarely have BFFs that thay haven't known since childhood-- or at least college.  Ben and Jeremy met around two years ago, during which time period Ben was courtin/newly wed/ a new father... Not a great time for guys to bond with other guys who are not exactly at the same stage in life.

But what do I know?  When the Holy Spirit touches you . . .

This.  I get the same feeling. I think this guy is a kind of fundie-celeb for the whole soccer thing, and Bin loves him some fundie celebs. He chased after Jessa, then there is the rapper, now the athlete. Marrying Jessa got him a seat at the cool kids table.  I watched several of the you tube videos, and I get the feeling that he is kind of patting Bin on the head and thinking "oh honey" as he answers his questions.

I also think Jessa is probably fuming.  This guy is better than Bin.  I realize the bar is low, but he is.   I don't think she would encourage any guy she knows to be better than her own towards one of her sisters, even Jinger.

actually think he will be a successful minister. He will certainly be more successful than either Derrick or Bin. He is well spoken, good looking, has an interesting back story, and now will have the famous Dugger name behind him.

Jill said in her latest Instagram post that she would see them soon. So.... I think they are engaged and she's coming back for the shower or something relatively quickly. I thought it was strange when I read it but now it makes sense.

This guy sets off my alarm bells in a major way. I can't put my finger on it but just watching that video made my skin crawl. I'm not surprised I feel that way about a dude in a fundie courtship, but at the same time it's different than how Bin or Derick struck me at first. It's decidedly more... bad. Less "bless your heart you have no idea what you are saying do you?" and more "you are trouble and I don't know why yet."

I think it might be his tone or his cadence, like his way of speaking reminds me of really controlling people who are like really tight in how they speak and come off insincere. Maybe I'm off-base, is anyone else getting what I mean?

ETA: I also don't find him attractive at all... maybe that's because hearing him talk puts me in high alert but even before I watched his video, he seemed pretty "eh" to me.

Definitely surprised. I just hope Jinger's happy. If this is really what she wants, then go for it. But it seems too coincidental to the show almost getting canceled and having a courtship announcement.

I am still reading through the first thread and catching up, but this is soooooo much better than a Lawson/Jinger courtship.

Jinder Roles, yep. I wanted to change my profile pic to something silly and I remembered that video of some guy in a Squidward costume dabbing, so I went with that.

All righty then, we have a washed up former soccer player who turned to his fundie father's profession of preaching who is currently doing so at a small 'plant' church (btw when I first read that I thought of plant in the horticultural sense too.) So basically a well educated guy choosing to earn peanuts for Jesus.

I think I'm seeing a pattern emerging in JB's SILs.

This guy sets off my ick tentacles - but maybe that's because he looks a bit like one of my exes who was a tall, fit, Mediterranean type, soccer nut who turned out to be a cheating S.O.B..

So far every Duggarrette and Batesette has ended up w/ a spouse/bf N. 6' tall & their dads and brothers are all S. of 6' - interesting. I guess tall is hot amongst young fundiettes. Maybe in their oh so literal world tall is closer to heaven.

Dammit, I just went to bed and then this happens. I'm never gonna catch up on this.
I hope Jinger is happy. I hope the guy is kind. I hope they will have a life of their own, real dreams, real ambitions, real love towards each other and their families, some friends, joys and more good days than bad ones. Things Jinger (and every one of the 18 youngest Duggar children) deserves so, so much.

Corruption has been busy at work and sleeping longer than usual due to flu.

I missed this announcement, wow. It makes me furious at her family, but I digress...

Can't wait to see how bigoted she is on instagram and twitter...

Maybe it's a rule, similar to Maxwells' "guy must be older."
Headship must be taller. Duh.

Forgot about the Maxwell's guy must be older rule. I would imagine tall men isn't a rule but more a gender roles guided preference. They spend their whole lives being spoon fed a single image of what a man is, so of course they all kind of look and act alike.

Guy scares me. There is something aggressive about his face and body language and his tone doesn't match what he is saying that he is just not attractive to me. He just seems empty, cold, and maybe even predatory.  I feel Jinger would be a piece of property to him, not an equal partner.

What the hell has Boob done?

And I wonder about alcohol and about violence. There is something very off-putting and phony about this man. A vibe I didn't get from Derrick or Ben. Pardon me but I would rather have slightly delusional, dorky, goofy, and stupid than this! It sounds like I am judging but it brings to mind the Gift of Fear, the book Oprah loves so much. He could be a modern-day Bluebeard.

If I thought  this family wasn't going South before...I feel for all of the Duggar girls being victimized again and again and not knowing any better.

So decided to go watch the testimony video. Is it just me or do all these guys turn the normal high school/college experience into some big crisis of faith. Then there is the obligatory crying out from a holding cell or other "seedy" scene one can conjure. I think this guy may have kissed some girls and gone to some parties, but is making it sound like a was this nihilistic hedonistic guy who miraculously was saved. I guess my skeptical meter is always cranked up with these testimonials because inevitably they all have similar elements. I immediately think of the guy who falsely claimed he was a satanist. I am blanking on the name, but he has been discussed on here before and was popular during the 80's. Does anyone know anything about Tim Conway or the sending church. Okay I dipped a toe into the rabbit hole of Tim Conway. You guys are going to love this he has a Facebook post titled "Is Tardiness A Sin. Let's just say I [emoji23] at that considering this guy could be considered Jinger's future husband's boss. So Duggar time may not fly. Why would he be staying with them? He was a grown man with a soccer career. I have this sense there is going to be some interesting connection to the fundie world or some church shenanigans.

Oh and the name of Grace Community is one where I immediately went let me see any arrest recently. As one can imagine there are a crap ton of churches with the name Grace Community. A quick Google search came back with various articles of youth pastors being arrested for sexual abuse. I swear listening to In the Name of God the podcast makes me want to keep my kid away from youth pastors. Oh and maybe him and Josh can be porn accountability buddies because his testimony made me think he is not unfamiliar with porn hub.

I took his testimony as - he was a very good athlete in high school and college - he partied - girls panties hit the floor because that's what happens with the very good athletes - he got thrown in the drunk tank once - and all of his guilt came roaring back.

I completely agree. His whole mannerism is very controlled and detached in a way that I find ominous. And it's like everyone has been saying, newfound fundies are the worst a lot of the time, they can be perfectly normal people but when something about a cult grabs them they get zealous. Cults change your whole personality. Of course this isn't true of all kinds of religion, but the extremeist sort that he is likely to be, they bring out the worst in people. For Derick and Ben that seems to be mostly moral superiority and an insistence of talking about things that they just do not understand. But I get the feeling I don't want to know the worst in this guy.
