Probably, she is rumored to be the "family insider" frequently quoted last summer in the tabloids.  She and her husband has said somethings with their names attributed as well. 

So Michael was in frumpers only for that episode.  I'm wondering if it was on United Bates of America.  They wore normal clothes on that.

As for the friendship between the Bateses and the Duggars--- I think like many friendships, it evolves over time.   We all have had falling outs or grown apart with friends over the course of our lives.  How many adults are still bff with their childhood bff?

I think the parents might have grown more distant, but there's some strong friendships between the children (Zach/JD, Michael/Jana, Carlin/Joy) with some strong enough to put the other in their wedding party.  And the Duggar howlers and Lost Girls might be close with the Bates kids of a similar age, but I'm not sure.

In my opinion, JB and Gil seem to have the kind of relationship where one is always trying to one-up the other and they're both hyper competitive.  They have something to prove to the world and JB's outlet for it was politics (him and Josh-- but it went down in flames for both of them) and Gil's is his position on the board of directors.  While both are dangerous positions, I would argue that politics is worse because you are responsible for making laws that everyone must follow.

I would love to know the private conversations that the Bates have with their kids about Joshly's down fall.  I also would have loved to hear the conversations both families had with the kids to spin how wearing "modern modest" instead of frumpers was going to help them lure in more Christians  set a good example for Christ.

I would love to hear the Bates explain why they are tossing Gothard under the bus and why Gil was trying to get an abuse victim to meet in private with the person she accused of abusing her. I'm sure they can pass the lawsuit off as just Satan Attacking a Godly Family, but how did they handle what Gil did to Gothard and the letter Gil and Dr. Paine sent out to the abused woman who came to them?

I watched an episode of UBOA where they meet up with the Duggars at Big Sandy.  Lots of zeroing in on Alert Academy, showing workshops for the littles and showing Gil giving a talk.  Also showed them fellowshipping with multiple other families in a conference room one night.  The Paines were in attendance and the camera zeroed in on Chad several times.  This was aired in 2012 so it is pre-courtship I believe.  They show Erin looking very bashful at times.  I have no sound but the camera crew seemed to be teasing her.  No Confederate vest but I had never realized that Michaella (as they now spell her name) lost weight at all much less a considerable amount.

Oh happy memories of reading the Bates blog back in the  day. Kelly was not actively parenting 19 children while updating that blog regularly and replying to loads of the comments. It must have taken up a lot of her time. So much leghumping in those comments.

Zach Bates failed courtship led me to fj. The comments here were essentially 'dear God that was painful and won't last'. And of course fj had it right.

There are also lots of mentions in the old blog of having to use the ER. Of course, they have no insurance, so they use the ER since they can't be turned away. 

Carlin had to tag along to care for Judson on their yearly anniversary trip*. Clearly Carlin was the buddy to Judson, but Kelly tries to play it off as it being a treat that Carlin had to go to care for the baby. It makes no sense for them to bring her to just buckle and unbuckle from the carseat. No she was brought along to care for him when he wasn't needing to be fed.

*I'm amazed that with all those kids, not being able to afford food and needing people to give them things like clothes for their children they manage to go on a yearly trip.  Sure it is only $50 for the night and who knows how much the food costs, but still, when you can't afford to purchase food for your children, it is time to take a break from the yearly trips and spend that money on something else. It seems like Gil and Kelly prioritize themselves above their children.

Interesting, bc last night i came across this post about Tori being the pre-assigned buddy for Judson. https://web.archive.org/web/20101017201549/http://gilbatesfamily.com/2010/09/12/tori-14 . wonder if tori and carlin "traded" at some point.  who needs baseball cards when you can trade babies?

This one page has a lot going on.  The Duggars dropped off some used ping pong tables and get a tribute from Zak.  The family gets gifted a carpenter from out of town to help finish up the trim in their house (WHA?) after another church raises a collection to pay for his lodging. They get a visit from a politician that they had supported and the kids get his autograph. And we get a full explanation of Judson's name and a discussion of his birth.

Thank you for finding that! I have been looking for it. I knew that Kelly had talked in the past how she assigned buddies for the babies before they were born and they started being a buddy the moment the baby was born. The buddies got the "privilege" of knowing if it was a boy or a girl before the baby was born, while Kelly didn't. It was like from the time the babies are conceived, Kelly stops viewing them as being her baby and starts thinking of them as being another number and the siblings are the real mothers. 

I wonder if Tori struggled with caring for the baby, so they gave the baby to Carlin.

A girl wouldn't be allowed to struggle with a baby in those households, let alone a teenager.  Plus Carlin is 2 years younger.  They wouldn't have swapped the buddies for that reason, Carlin going on the trip doesn't mean the buddy was changed, it just means that they wanted a baby minder and either it was Carlin's turn to go on a special trip with the parents (she may have been there for her labour, but a trip with her parents and a baby and no one else, would have got her a lot of special mum and dad time) or because they wanted to leave Tori (as the older 4 eldest girl behind). I expect 15 year old Tori would have more skills in the home than 13 year old Carlin.  13 year old Carlin on the other hand, perfectly capable of managing a baby, without the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, managing large groups etc.

Andy Leftwich played on the Christmas CD. He's played at other Bates events... I'm thinking he might have played at Erin's weddin' (imagine Kelly saying that one... Drop that "g" Kelly Jo...) and his wife might have sang. Or I could be totes wrong. I wonder what they think of Andy's gig as a member of Ricky Skaggs' band Kentucky Thunder? Ricky's music hasn't always been exactly church/gospel/bluegrass. He was a popular country star in the 80's. I bet Kelly Jo & Gil listened to Ricky before they found Jaaaaaysuz.

One of the parents should have picked up the vibe that she wasn't really into him before they decided to go with the televised courtship proposal. She looks so uncomfortable in all the pictures around him. And he just leers over her in a creepy way.

I agree. Its one of those situations where if the kids were allowed to actually date these things would be better. I can remember making really stupid mistakes early on with dating (the wrong guy or realizing he was a creep) and then the guy also learned (hopefully) hey if I make her feel uncomfortable, she's going to dump me. In his case (please don't bite off my head, I realize we can't tell anything by watching the show.) I think Zach and Whitney worked out okay.  I'm not sure why a girl as not fundie or fundie-lite as Whitney wanted to swap her jeans for long skirts and no way out but she actually seems to have wanted this.  And I realize also that Winnie the Pooh does not mean Zach is better than his father but he's at least ou in the world...
