Can we trade people?  I know a lot who support him.

Well I am in Canada so perhaps I am not seeing the same support since this is something that is not actually happening to us, we just get a front row seat to the madness..

Enacting laws to shut down communication so people aren't exposed to social media which could give them radical ideas?

What could possibly be less American than that?

Or dangerous.  Do we really want those radicals to go to extreme lengths to keep their plans hidden?  Them doing that makes it harder for the good guys to find out what's going on.  Right now, we can keep tabs on them and try to stay a step ahead.  We couldn't do that if they were forced to make their own underground communications system.

It's seriously scary for the rest of the world. In most European countries, we do not talk about our religion - and it certainly does not influence our vote. If you research, less than half of voters in the US claim a Christian affiliation - but, boy, can they shout. Fundamentalist Christianity is having a disproportionate influence on US politics - and those of us overseas have no way to counteract this. (And  even within the US, non Christians struggle to have a voice.) But try to decry their influence - and it is persecution! For a country that was founded on the Idea that freedom of belief was paramount, recent developments in fundamentalist churches are truly not just terrifying, but also in contradiction  of the founding principles of the US.

Those of us in the U.S. also feel like we have no way to counteract this. It's insane. When did it become mainstream to use your religious freedom to oppress the rights of others? These people just don't get what this country was founded on. Or think religious freedom only applies to them.

And their cries of religious persecution when they have to let others be treated like human beings pisses me off. When you have to hide in the attic from all your neighbors who are burning down your temple and throwing rocks and bricks through your window (while the police happily ignore it) just because you're Jewish (or any other religion) like my grandmother had to, then come talk to me. Or when you have to hide in a basement in the dark to pray and celebrate holidays. Or when you are physically attacked by your peers for your religion, like a girl in New York this past week who had her headscarf ripped off and was called "ISIS" by her classmates. Fucking fuckers have no idea what religious persecution actually is.

I can't remember which thread it was, but people were talking about trump saying 68% of his supporters would follow him if he went independent.    My husband pointed out that 68% of 34% is 22% of the total.   So not nearly enough to win a general election.

No, but it's definitely enough to fuck things up big time for the Republicans. And that's pretty much what he's threatening to do if they don't all kiss his ass.

Trump having a tantrum and running as an independent might just be the best thing that's happened to the Republican Party in years - if the far-right crazy loon man goes, the GOP might consider becoming a more moderate party again and picking up centrist or moderate voters who would otherwise have voted Democrat for the sake of their sanity.

Short-term, they'd get their asses handed to them in a general election. Long-term, though, it could offer some hope.

However he also makes the other far right people look moderate. But hopefully they'll see that their asshattery lead to Trump and ease up and become more reasonable like they used to be.

They think they're being persecuted for being told not to persecute others.  I'm not really sorry who this offends, but I feel very often like Christianity is one of the worst things to happen to this country.  Not everyone is like those assholes, but the rest are quiet in their disapproval instead of getting vocal and doing something about it.

In all sincerity, myself and many other American's apologize to the international community.  We just don't know what to do.

Make Trump step on a Lego, barefoot, film it, and upload it on youtube, so the rest of us can at least get a giggle out of it? :pb_mrgreen:

Seriously though, the man is making you (US-Americans) look like mugs and should apologize for embarrassing you! So, I for one, gratefully decline your apology. Trump should be apologizing to you!

But if you could get that video... just kidding. ;)

As always, I'm hoping the goons are really just decoy options meant to divide the brainless from everyone else.

They're already doing that with an app called Telegram:

However, ISIS is developing its own encrypted Arabic language app to enhance secret communications. It already has a news app of sorts:

I am part of one of those ethnic groups that Trump has a problem with...he scares me to death.

My father was German. During WW2, they had their shortwave radio confiscated.

My mother was Cuban and fled when Castro took over.

I can't see the Duggars voting for Trump.

Anyhow, some think he is a democratic plant. I'm beginning to wonder, too. Look at all the crazy things he does and says. I dont recall Dubya acting that crazy.

Bottom line: He didn't. (I didn't say he was without fault. But he was positively normal, compared to Trump).

Okay, let's say that Trump is a plant who was put in this position with the purpose of making Republicans look like a bunch of angry bigots. So, shouldn't the "trick" fail miserably as his statements should offend all Republicans?  I hate to break it to you, but Trump definitely has his fans in the base of the Republican party.

I've heard reports that Reince Preibus and the other Big Dogs in the Republican party are having meetings and desperately trying to figure out a way to not have Trump or Cruz be the nominee. I don't understand how they hope to get the base to switch their allegiance to a more "acceptable" establishment Republican candidate. It sounds like herding cats to me.

I definitely wasn't a fan of George W Bush, but at least he understood that there is a difference between Muslims who commit acts of violence toward others, and law-abiding Muslims who just want the right to practice their religion in peace.

Trump may not mention god enough for the Duggars' taste, but they'll vote for him if he becomes the nominee like all the other fundegelical Southern whites. In the South, the GOP is the "white people party," the Democrats are the "black people party," and the Duggars aren't going to cross this line. Yes, you do see progressive whites in Atlanta, the Research Triangle in North Carolina, and other liberal pockets voting Democrat, but we all know the Duggars aren't those kinds of people. I can imagine JB telling the young adult kids that if they vote Democrat they go straight to hell.

I meant to post this earlier, but went somewhere else instead:

Quote

There are lots of reasons for evangelicals to dislike Trump — his multiple divorces, his casinos, his crude language and his attack on religious liberty, to name just a few. (“For instance, some leaders cited his reported comments about his daughter’s figure, including: ‘I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.’ “) But it was a small incident that got evangelicals, according to multiple sources, snickering about Trump: His refusal/inability to come up with a favorite Bible verse.

It's an interesting conundrum.  Which is worse:  Trump or *gasp* a Democrat?

Automatically saying "no" to all Muslims seems like a pretty absurd idea, but saying "no" to someone who has ideologies that don't fit with American Values? Is it so bad to ask questions?

Who gets to decide what american values are? Why are any of our values better or more American than anyone else's? I'm not talking about terrorists, I'm talking about law abiding people of all kinds.

The ones I know would go with Trump, because they really think Democrats are that bad.

Well, no matter who gets nominated, I'm pretty sure I'll be holding my nose when I vote.
