  1. Continued from here: I thought with the midterms coming, we could use a mildly hopeful thread title. Here's hoping I don't spend another election night crying again!
  2. Previously in the clusterfuck that has become national politics, the Orange Menace continued his single-minded attempts to destroy our reputation with the world, and now he thinks he can take on Google. Sigh. Continued from here:
  3. Continued from here: https://www.freejinger.org/topic/31239-trump-33-making-norman-bates-look-like-a-choir-boy/?page=22 Today in news of the obvious: The Orange Menace knew all about the collusion with Russia. Any other president this would sink for ever, but I'm starting to think NOTHING will mitigate the Orange Menace's menace. Anyway, onward, and remember: THIS IS NOT NORMAL OR OKAY!
  4. Again, I have nothing pithy to say, just a bunch of fuck that guy. Continued from here:
  5. I have nothing pithy to say. I'm just tired. Someone, please, make it stop.
  6. Continued from here: Let's continue to hope that Rufus keeps an Umbrella of Protection over Mueller.
  7. It's been over 13 months y'all, and it seems like for-fucking-ever. I keep hoping he will get bored and quit, but alas, no. Continued from here:
  8. This article in the New Yorker poses that question And to be honest, I hope it doesn't. It would make me so happy to see the downfall of the Orange Fart Cloud and Moore, particularly if said downfall takes all these reich wing churches with them.
  9. The Banned CDC List is Religious Right Terrorism DECEMBER 16, 2017 / JOHN PAVLOVITZ Donald Trump has reportedly banned the CDC from using the following words in their policies, budgets, and communications: Evidence-based Science-based Fetuses Transgender Vulnerable Entitlement Diversity This is not exactly true. This is not Donald Trump’s handiwork. He is not the author of this list. He isn’t smart enough to come up with a combination of words so perfectly synchronized to hurt and silence marginalized people. Only Evangelicals can do that. As a Christian and twenty-year pastor, one who’s served for much of that time in the American Bible Belt—the list is eerily familiar. It’s the extreme Evangelical Christian Right’s signature mix tape, the careful curated playlist they’ve had on heavy rotation in their indie gatherings for the past 60 years—only now it’s getting wide release, thanks to the monster they’ve aligned with; one who’s perfectly happy to disseminate it to keep their union intact. Every sick, perverse Right Wing religious line of attack is there within those words: A disregarding of scientific fact in favor of necessary religious mythology. The unrelenting demonizing of the LGBTQ community. The hyperbolic vilifying of those defending a woman’s right to choose. The neglect of the poor and marginalizing and coddling of the wealthy. Open contempt for people of brown skin, foreigners, immigrants. Historic misogyny and raging white supremacy. The list is a bulleted seven-point Sunday sermon outline, the kind that’s been given every weekend in pulpit pounding churches by spitting, sweating, furiously angry white men—who tell people the sky is falling and assure them only a vengeful white God can hold it up. They’re a list perfectly designed to leverage the fear Bible Belt Evangelicals work specifically and almost solely in. These seven words are not the work of Donald Trump. He can barely craft a coherent Tweet, let alone compose a brilliant bit of subtle violence like this. This list is a wicked witch’s brew, crafted by the preachers and pastors and religious universities who’ve sold their souls to this President in order to get the market share that their extremism wouldn’t allow naturally. These words are written in the unmistakable hateful hand of the Pences, the Falwells, the Dobsons, the Grahams, the Southern Baptists, pro-lifers, and Family Values crusaders—and they’re tailor-made to legislate the Evangelical’s elevation of cisgender, white, wealthy Americans. It is mass murder without truck bombs and AK-47s. It’s domestic terrorism, just with less obvious weapons. And it’s the kind of thing that would make Jesus turn over damn every table in sight, were he able to stop vomiting long enough to do so. America is not a theocracy but it soon will be, unless people of faith and those who hold no spiritual tradition who recognize and abhor such religious extremism—oppose it loudly and continually. That this kind of forced compliance is the antithesis of the life and teachings of Jesus, as well as the Constitution. Both argue loudly against what’s happening here. We cannot allow faith-based bigotry to become the law of the land here or we no longer need claim this nation a place where Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness matter. We can give up that whole Land of the Free, Home of the Brave garbage. This CDC list is not random, it’s not impulsive, and it’s not the work of a bumbling, unintelligent, fraud like Donald Trump. It is a deliberate, careful-crafted, dangerously precise work of white Evangelicals who aren’t going to watch their faith tradition die without taking out a whole lot of innocent people as it does. This is what terrorists do. And it’s what good people need to stop them from doing.
  10. I was inspired to start this thread after reading this article on the progressive double standard on Bill Clinton versus Harvey Weinstein or Donald Trump from Jacobin, a democratic socialist magazine: https://jacobinmag.com/2017/10/bill-clinton-harvey-weinstein-sexual-assault However, this is a subject that I have been thinking about ever since Monicagate in the 1990s when I was in high school. I was never comfortable with how mainstream feminists threw Monica Lewinsky under the bus (see the NYT op-ed piece by Gloria Steinem references in the link). I get that from a political perspective, the idea was probably that it was better that sacrifice Lewinsky to prevent Republicans from enacting anti-woman policies, but i hate the idea that some women are considered disposable while others are to be pushed into prominence. In any case, the question that the article raises is very valid: would liberals and progressives be as sanguine about the allegations against Bill Clinton if the subject of these rumors was some other guy (eg Clarence Thomas, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Josh Duggar, Donald Trump)? If we claim to take sexual harassment seriously, shouldn’t that mean doing so even when it may politically hurt us to do so? To me, the underlying problem is patriarchy. It doesn’t matter how one identifies politically or how much money one give to charity or political causes. If a man thinks that women only exist as objects for his gratification and knows he can get away with assault and harassment because of his position, he’ll do it. And the overarching societal system is structured in such a way that discourages people, whether male or female, from standing up to men in authority. I know that talking about patriarchy in public is even less popular than talking about white supremacy, but unless we deal with the underlying causes of these serial abusers, these scandals will just keep happening.
  11. Continued from here: Someone needs to take the fucking twitter account away. Also, @formergothardite, I’m still not over my Power Rangers obsession. LOL. (And I’m still way more mature than our president.)
  12. Continued from here: I'm still fucking pissed about the god tweet, if anyone is keeping score at home.
  13. I know we weren't quite ready for a new thread, but since we are on to yet another new scandal, I thought it might be helpful for future us to be able to find them somewhat separately. So .... To impeachment and BEYOND! (I hope!) Continued from here: JFC. At what point are the republicans going to wake the fuck up and be the patriots they say they are?
  14. Previously, Cheeto fired the FBI director that got him elected, but was also investigating him for the Russian connection, in the worst possible way. I call shenanigans and interference! Continued from here:
  15. I wasn't sure where to put this, since it's not about politics per se. Donald Trump donated some land in 2006 to be used as a national park as a tax write-off, and like most of his ventures, it was poorly maintained and is now closed: http://www.avclub.com/article/donald-j-trump-state-park-ugly-and-dilapidated-its-251208 If that's what happened to a small slice of land once owned by Trump, just imagine how the whole US will look after four years of this nut.

    Election Recount

I thought I would start a new thread to talk about the election recount, since there's so much new information. As most of you probably already know, Jill Stein has filed for recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and Trump and various other Republicans are trying to stop it. Here's an update on what's happening: http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/12/2/1606691/-Update-on-the-WI-MI-Recount-Battle Jill Stein has posted pictures on her website that she says show that 5 of the 9 voting machines being used in the Wisconsin recount have seals that were tampered with: http://www.jill2016.com/wendy_st_croix_county Michigan: And, in Pennsylvania: Does anyone else feel like this election has turned into a fucking soap opera? Has anyone else used more profanity in the last month than in the whole rest of their lives put together?
  17. I'm super excited for whatever "head fake" surprise that Trump has in store for us: http://money.cnn.com/2016/10/19/media/steve-bannon-donald-trump-presidential-debate/index.html This topic will open at 7pm eastern. I'll try to keep up with recapping again this time.
  18. Previously on Trump TV, there was a debate. He lost. Soundly.
  19. Happy debate day ladies and gentlemen! This topic will unlock 2 hours before the debate, and we will be doing all debate conversation here. @HerNameIsBuffy and I will be doing our best to recap the festivities. .....I'm actually sorta excited for this, not gonna lie.
