The Duggars' Megyn Kelly Interview - MERGE

luv2laugh

Recommended Posts

Have you not seen the "ask the Duggars a question" episodes?

I would think that many of the Duggars' conservative fans, even the ones who are publicly defending them, have to be angry that they were lied to about this "wholesome Christian family." There are probably even more conservatives who are just plain angry about the deception. If JB and Michelle just do vacuous god talk for an hour, it may make the situation worse, because it will further reinforce the view that they don't care about the victims and are only interested in their public appearance. It would be like that interview Whitney Houston did with Diane Sawyer where she proclaimed "crack is whack," which only reinforced the public's view that she did crack. But I think that JB and Michelle are not only incapable of telling the truth, but they are unable to think outside the ATI box.

I want to interview the Duggars! It would be awesome. Obviously only Michelle, Jimbob, and of course Josh, no need to drag the kids into something like this, and it is cruel to interview the Jslaves on live TV about something so horribly personal. And yeah, it would be live.

I would ask them all of the hard questions.

Why do you send your kids to ATI events, with Bill Gothard, even though he molests teenage girls?

When did you find out what Bill Gothard did? What do you think about the stories on Recovering Grace about these girls he molested? What do you think about him?

Doug Phillips gave you the mother of the year award. What do you think about that considering he raped their nanny?

You say that you don't want transgender people to use the bathrooms for their gender, because they could rape people? But what about Bill Gothard, Doug Phillips and Josh. These people have sexually assaulted other people, and statistics show that LGBT people are no more likely to sexually assault people than anyone else. There is no epidemic of transgender rapists targeting women in bathrooms.

Why are you not open about your connection to these shady characters?

Why do you still trust Gothard to give you the word of God, even though he is morally corrupt?

How can you get marriage and parenting advice from an unmarried man with no kids?

If your daughter ever told you she wanted to go to college in a different state, what would you say?

What would you really do if your child came out as gay?

Remember your analogy of purity being like a bike? Is this how you see your daughters now because they were molested by your son?

Do your children really choose their courtship rules? What would you do if you found out one of them kissed before marriage?

Michelle, remember your childhood? Do you not even feel a little bad that they will never get those experiences?

Do you spank your children? No, this is not the time to talk about how you don't raise your voice. Do you spank your children? Yes or no. With what, and why? Oh, so you do? Why is it that you keep it secret, if you think it is the best way to get a child to behave?

In your house, who does the laundry? Who cooks? Who cleans the bathrooms? Who cleans the bedrooms? Who cleans the kitchen? Supervises the kids doing their homeschool work? Mops the floor? Changes the diapers? Bathes the little kids? The kids, huh? Well what do YOU do? (Maybe this one would be fun to ask the kids, make a list of every imaginable chore that a person could possibly do in a house and cross off something if a kid says they do it. Then present the list to Michelle and Jimbob, and ask what they do).

You say that modesty protects women because if men see women be immodest, they might be tempted to rape them. Here is a picture of your children in 2002. Look at their clothing. Is that modest enough? How exactly was Josh tempted by these little kids?

How much homeschooling do the kids do? How do you work it around all your public appearances?

Here are some stories about former homeschooled children who say that their parents homeschooled them to hide their abuse, and how they were neglected educationally and not allowed to have friends. What do you think about that?

When Josh molested his sisters, why did you allow him to remain in the house?

What measures did you take to make sure he would not do it again?

What about when you and Jimbob are both out? Who babysits, the oldest girls? But they are the ones he abused!

Why did you not allow Josh to be interviewed about it?

Why did you make Josh do construction work instead of real therapy?

Did Josh get therapy? What kind? Where?

What about your daughters? Did they get therapy? What kind? Where? Journey to the Heart doesn't count, because it is run by a child molester.

Why did you choose to take him to one specific cop for a talking to? Did you know that he likes kiddie porn?

The police officer you talked to said that you said it was just one time he did it. Why did you lie?

Why did you allow TLC to film your family after all this happened?

The police report says that you found out, then you did nothing, and did not tell anyone until he did it again.

How much did you tell Anna and her family? (Josh should answer this too)

Josh, what is your side of the story?

What made you want to do it?

Did you know it was wrong when you first did it? Why did you do it again?

What actually happened when your parents found out? Did you get any therapy?

What do you think God thinks about what you did?

What about your victims? How do you think it made them feel? Should they forgive you just because you said you were sorry?

How do you feel about what you did?

It wasn't a mistake. A mistake is when you do something by accident, and then don't do it again. You did it multiple times.

How will this impact your life? Why do you think this is?

What about your victims? How do you think this will affect their lives?

Do you really think sorry makes it all okay?

Do you think the show should be cancelled? Why is that?

Please please please please let me do it instead!

What DOESN'T Dunham or Allen have to do with this? Allen is MUCH worse, given that he was an ADULT who violated every conceivable line of decency with his own child, then JUSTIFIED it. (Josh at least admitted he was wrong.) And our warped culture eventually turned an "Oh well, what can ya do?" blind eye to what Allen did, too. To suggest that other abuse cases have "nothing" to do with this one is ludicrous. So many other things about the Duggars have been brought to bear on this molestation tragedy that literally do NOT have anything to do with it (like revisiting Michelle's views on LGBT, -and sure, while hypocrisy may come to light there, her views have NOTHING to do with Josh being a molester of 5 young girls.)

I find it odd that you would think other abuse cases have "nothing to do with this", yet every mistake or wrong choice ever made by the Duggars is piled on as having *something* to do with it (which may or may NOT be objective and/or accurate.)

I apologize, the way I worded this post led you obviously to believe I was dismissing Dunham and Allen's behaviors or condoning them somehow. Just the opposite: I've boycotted all Allen films and Dunham's products just as I did Mel Gibson after his DUI arrest/racist rants.

What I meant by my above post is that the arguments I have seen Duggar supporters make is that Dunham and Allen both did horrible things and the left forgave so why are the evil lefties now castigating Josh Duggar. What I tried to convey and obviously failed is that it doesn't matter HOW heinous Dunham and Allen actions and characters are, that has nothing to do with the seriousness/heinousness of Duggars behavior and/or how horrendous and irresponsible J and M were as parents handling that situation by not getting all their children counselling after it happened. The Duggars (Josh, Michelle, JB) made choices I find disgusting and I'm protesting that, just as I won't be watching anything they are involved with ever again.

Hopefully that cleared my quoted post up and sorry if some/any one couldn't figure out what I meant by how I worded it.

The person who should be doing the interview is Josh, but they have him in hiding just like they did when he originally molested. They wouldn't even bring him forward to talk to the police. I'd like to hear what HE has to say.

He's not going to say anything different than he already has. He believes that what he did was an accident, and he's been taught that women are responsible for his sexual desires and actions. He's not going to say anything that he needs to say (like how messed up it was for him to target his sister, particularly his 4/5 year old sister; or that he shouldn't have abused any of the girls).

I think JB and M shoulder the biggest blame for the incidents because they were the adults in charge of the home and legally tasked with protecting all of their children, which they did not do. They neglected, as far as we know, to get all parties involved actual help. From evidence posted and shown, they continued to leave the parties involved together and unattended. They should have been charged with neglect, for this and other reasons.

Josh should be there because he was the instigator, but he was 14. He had a legal headship who failed him.

People want the 27 yo Josh to speak on his behaviors, but need to remember that 27 yo Josh did not molest his sister +1.

I suppose Josh could speak of his 14 yo life- I could see that going horribly wrong. Is there a SOL for horrible parents and shitty parenting?

Yes, Josh, Pandora's Box, indeed.

The fact that they're doing this interview prior to any announcement by TLC tells me they've likely already reached some kind of agreement with the network. I don't think they'd risk this if the show's fate was still hanging in the balance. They obviously know what's about to happen. Man...I hope this isn't where JB falls on his sword to clear the way for the the Brady Brides sequel. TLC would SO get behind orchestrating that sort of thing.

Agree 100%. TLC is absolutely involved with this and likely set up the interview with Fox/Megyn Kelly because she is a "media friendly." Whatever firm does PR for TLC/Discovery is heavily involved with this and Boob and Mullet will absolutely have scripted answers to any questions, and they will be prepared with some lame rebuff *if* Megyn Kelly decides to grow a spine and throw a curveball at them. "Megyn, you know, that's something we've prayed about and we've decided it would be best for everyone involved if we steer clear of those types of questions." blah blah. I can see her possibly asking some harder questions but there's no way J/M will answer them. I also bet Boob asks Megyn to pray with the family before they tape the interview.

I don't want to watch the interview because I don't want to improve their ratings.

At the same time, I think that it's important for me to witness what these dangerous people are saying - unlike leghumpers who won't read the police report and just blindly keep supporting the Duggars. Easy questions or tough questions, I want to be informed and see for myself.

I also want to see just how much they're scrambling to rebuild their image. C'mon JimChelle, dance for us! Dance that desperate dance! Cry and sniffle and pander yourselves and your children some more! How many softball interviews will it take to keep people (the lovers and the haters) interested in you so that your gravy train can keep going?

JimChelle, I want to see you squirm in front of the cameras. Look sad. Apologize. Cry and wring your hands. Show me how desperate you are to save yourselves and your show. I still won't like you, but I want to see this.

I have been a reader here for a while and have followed this whole thing pretty closely. I am sure this interview is an attempt to start rebuilding their reputations and save their main source of income and celebrity. It bothers me that it is at their home. Although, I think they are pretty holed up in there right now until the public perception changes.

As for Megyn Kelly, she CAN be a hard hitting interviewer. And don't forget, Fox News is one of the very few news outlets that reported that it was his sisters whom he molested. So, there could be some hope. And I really don't think Jim Bob has much pull right now in terms of stipulations. The Duggars need this interview much MUCH more than Fox News needs the viewers. My hope is that she has 1. Done her research on IBLP/ATI and questions them on that. 2. She read the entire police report and hammers them on their mishandling of the situation...aka....how they failed their daughters and Josh. They are not responsible for Josh's actions, but they ARE responsible for not helping everyone involved. 3. She questions them on the DHS stuff that happened after the police realized the SOL would not allow them to do anything.

I won't be watching the interviews life. I will NEVER give this family ratings again. I will find it on youtube after. I am not sure how much I will be able to handle of them anyhow.

Michelle and Jim Bob need to be interviewed, but Josh needs his own separate interview where he can be asked the pertinent questions without mommy and daddy's umbrella of protection.

I have a feeling if that interview does ever happen with Josh, alone, he and his parents will have found some way to fill in certain gaps in the original story. All of a sudden, Josh's rehabilitation program will have a name, and that he participated in it for X number of months. People with credentials will suddenly come out of the woodworks claiming that they counseled Josh, and maybe even the Duggar daughters, too, if Jim Bob and Michelle can get them on board to reinforce the lie. Purely speculative on my part, but it would not surprise me if the Duggar spin machine started to move in this general direction.

After thinking about this for awhile, I don't think that TLC in involved in this interview. TLC would never give its "talent" to a non-affiliated network for a monumental interview. I think it is likely that TLC has already cut the Duggars loose but have chosen to wait so people continue to talk about TLC. If they were involved in the interview they would have chosen a network owned by the same company that owns TLC. You don't give ratings to a competing network. So normally, they would be interviewed by someone related to NBC. I don't think the Duggars are trying to save the show, they know it's over, I think they are trying salvage their standing and profitability in their small, Gothard community.

I remember Jim Bob bragging a few months ago about being the number 1 show on TLC like they were hot shit. I wish I could have seen his face when he realized how outraged people were. Anyway, I never thought the majority or their audience were conservatives, just people like us that loved to snark on the show. I also don't think they have much in common with real conservatives who educate their sons and daughters, whose women aren't meek (I have met some spitfire conservative women) and who are not going to say molestion is ever ok.

I would watch only (borrowing The first bit from Fascinated) if they said exactly this:" We fucked up. We followed an elderly, never married wax figure molded in Madam Tussauds Itself named Bill Gothic and the cult he built. Unfortunately we've gotten into a (dill) pickle because Michelle felt (probably due to pregnancy hormones) - a year after #1 son's confession - that we should discuss his "mistake" with someone not made of wax and perhaps in possession of a badge. We haven't learned a damn thing and regret only that we got caught. Obviously God loves us best and TLC will make GOD very angry by canceling our brainwashing/ministry/show. Mr. Gothic behind the curtain says it's time to wrap this up. Y'all watch us next week when Michelle and I resume our wholesome Christian 'reality' lifestyle like nothing ever happened. I'll continue to throw in plenty of awkward, Christian sexual innuendo with a preview of my new favorite - Fifty Shades of Hey Hey Hey. Michelle is nearly fifty after all! And there's Benessa's Jender reveal to tease y'all with!

Now if Anderson Cooper will be having a chat with them, I'd pay to watch :D

I thought this too at first, why would TLC not do the interview themselves? But I think TLC knows they have to distance themselves (or at least appear to be distancing themselves) right now. With all the advertisers jumping ship and calls to cancel the show, TLC could not have done the interview after they had just agreed to pull episodes from the air, because it would lead to more public outcry that TLC was benefiting/profiting from/supporting the Duggars. They need an "objective" media outlet to do it. And I can't think of any NBC affiliated shows/reporters that would be nearly friendly enough to the Duggars.

If TLC is truly not involved in this at all, and the Duggars are doing their own media relations/prep for the interview, this is going to be an even bigger disaster than I thought.

Fox News is conservative swill, and Megyn, (AKA Santa-is-white-Jesus-is-white) Kelly is not going to ask any of the hard questions. Dollars to donuts this will be scripted and wont go beyond mistakes were made, Jesus, forgiveness, counseling, Jesus, did the best we knew how, forgiveness and Jesus. Megyn Kelly is not a journalist. She is an infotainment celebrity.

The idea that there will be no mention that the victims are Josh's sisters never even occurred to me, but yeah, that's definitely a possibility. The problem with that though, is that it would make even less sense for Jim Bob and Michelle to be interviewed instead of Josh. If most of the people involved all lived under the same roof, then it's not unreasonable that JB/M act as spokespersons for the family, in addition to answering questions about their neglect and failures. But if they skirt around that and just focus on Josh's actions without specifying that his victims were his own sisters, then why are they there? To address their actions at the time, sure, but it makes Josh look unwilling to acknowledge his "mistakes."

I think Michelle will be doing all of the talking. Remember that interview a few years back, where Jim Bob said that when it's just the two of them, everyone approaches Michelle for autographs but never him? I'm completely out of step with my fellow Americans, but apparently Michelle is considered likable to many. Having her interviewed instead of her smug son could be an attempt to lull the audience. Who can stay mad at the quirkily frumpy, baby-voiced mother of 19?

The only way it makes sense for JB&M to talk about this, especially if they don't mention the fact that their daughters are victims, is if they take responsibility for their shitty parenting and shitty response to Josh's actions. He was a minor at the time and they were his 'umbrella of protection.' I'm getting pretty sick of the Gothardspeak, by the way, and the fact that they use it all the time and still no one outside of FJ apparently thinks it's odd and worth looking into, but that's another rant. So Josh was under JB's umbrella ella ella hey hey! when this happened. Talk about that, assholes.

This comment went off in a lot of weird directions; sorry. :D

This will be as scripted and rehearsed as a Shakespearean Play. J'chelle and J'Boob have probably been heavily schooled on just what talking points to bring up and just what body language to use to convey the right emotions. I'm sure that the tightwad loosened his grip on his wallet for this emergency and hired professionals-- he would be willing to spend tens of thousands to ensure he can go back to earning hundreds of thousands. Watch the opening shots closely-- if Michelle is wearing more flattering clothes and has her hair styled softer and if the lighting is very flattering-- that will mean this interview is nothing but a puff piece meant to calm the waters so that JB can get back to making money ASAP.

This. I'm not holding my breath for it, but I think there's a decent chance JB&M will end up digging an even deeper hole for the family.

Apparently, most teenaged boys molest little kids.

this has been posted elsewhere, but it may have been in the Everything Josh Duggar, Child Molester part 7 thread... anyway, that is not her site

larry king or OPRAH she hates child molestors and people who cover it up

Then why didn't Oprah take further action when nothing came of her reporting the abuse? As a victim of rape, I would've thought she would light under somebody's ass even if the SOL expired?

She really couldn't.

She appropriately reported it to the authorities, and it was up to them to take action. She was not entitled to know any details about their investigation. For all she knew, the story wasn't true.

If she started contacting other outlets and claiming Josh was a child molester without any proof, she would have been opening herself up to a world of legal trouble.

What else could Oprah/Harpo have done, though? She received a letter form a random person alleging abuse, she reported it to the proper authorities, she cancelled The Duggars' appearance on her show for good measure. She had no way of knowing if that letter had any truth to it, and all she could do was report it and let the professionals handle it. It's not like one of the victims contacted her and told her they had been/were being abused. It would have been grossly irresponsible for her to do anything else in light of the information she had.
