Gotta love how both Anna and Amy used the same picture that looks like it was taken 5+ years ago. At least Smugger's was different than the previously released ones we've already seen.

And I'm still loling at "concert pianist" and "police work."

How much more insulting can they be to real police officers and accomplished concert pianists? I don't know anyone who is a concert pianist but we do have a police officer in the family. His being a former Marine helped him get the job but there still was extensive training involved and, even now, there is ongoing education. Sadly, their followers eat this stuff up without question so, to them, JD is a real cop and Jana is a concert pianist. Maybe with their increased presence in the media there will be more intense scrutiny of this family. I sure hope so.

I have wondered where JD lives...does he still live in the family home or does he have his own place?

If only she had enough confidence to do that! But then, they have traveled the world already so she does have some experience, and a passport...

And her own money.

As insulting as it is to real midwifes who have had to read that Jill is a midwife for the last couple of years.

And if you really think about it, what a farce. The Duggars are followers of Gothard and Gothard has strict gender roles. Adult females are wives, mothers or parental handmaidens, so why the hell does JB fabricate careers for the girls? What he should be saying is, as followers of Bill Gothard, the goals for our daughters include being a wife and mother. Since (insert name) is not married, she continues to live at home and is lending a hand to our family and home's daily operations.

i agree, but jb is probably concerned about image. while he knows what gothard wants, he knows enough of the general public to know that they'll criticize them even more than they already are, so he makes stuff up for them to try to deflect potential criticism.

i do think jb should at least publicly stick to the beliefs he espouses, but that wouldn't make for a very media-friendly image that he's been trying to carefully cultivate.

isn't lying a sin, boob?

I'm late to the party, but...concert pianist? I can't get over that. Fundie festivals in tents in someone's backyard count as concerts? Hell, Erin went to an actual college (sure, it's a fundie approved one so doesn't really count, but still), and her playing isn't all that impressive. What the hell chance does Jana have? Even natural talent can't make up for lack of qualified training.

I'm a doctor, lawyer, computer technician, pastry chief, mechanic, and a therapist. All via Google :D That makes me qualified right??

I'm surprised they don't claim J'chelle has a Ph.D. in Uterine Productivity.

I hope Jana and JD had a good birthday, enjoyed themselves, and are getting closer to leaving the TTH. Preferably to live lives they choose.

And that they can eventually live with REAL integrity, not the "integrity" their parents perpetuate.

It the mindset one had to drink to have a good time that troubles me.

I was a partier who didn't have to get drunk to have a good time. It can be done.....music, dancing, friends, etc. Good times.

It makes me think of when Michelle claimed in an article that Joseph and Josiah were "apprentices" because they helped out at a friend's office occasionally. That term is usually attached to an official, regulated program--applying through a local union, working on a specific trade, earning a living wage while learning, etc.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree 100%. I disagree with his mindset completely but I hate how he refuses to own it. :music-tool:

At least they dropped "doula" and "first responder".

Also people can drink responsibly. There is a great big chasm between abstinence and alcoholic.

There's a big difference between being a binge drinker and being an alcoholic. Alcoholism is an addiction, binge drinking is a destructive behavior that can exist with or without an addiction.

Typical Duggar hypocrisy in order to make them look better and harmless in public. It's like when they claim that their children can chose their own courtship rules. As if. But many mainstreem viewers might buy that and think that the Duggars are just a slightly old-fashioned but overall nice family.

I don't think it's really a hypocrisy. Gothard only states women can't have jobs that put them under the control of a man who isn't her father or husband. A woman can work in her father's or husband's business, can work under a woman, or can do a gender appropriate job where she's self employed. Its all about the headship and his rules. As long as she's loyal and subservient to her headship, nothing else matters.

I think the mistruths about the careers are a big deal. It is flat out lying and falsification of background and achievements.

As a retired RN, it pisses me off that they flat out lie about their "accomplishments." WHY are they lying to make their adult kids into something they are not? Why do they make claims for things that they have not earned?

If you want to claim to be those things, put the education, time, money and effort into achieving those goals. Then go ahead and make all the claims that you like. Jill has had an entire year to work on achieving that lay MW certification, yet she made the choice not to apply herself in that area. Therefore, NO, she does not get to wear the title.

I am surprised that mags such as People do not do better research and continue perpetuate these mistruths.

And yes, outright lying, which is what this is, especially to elevate yourself to something that you are not, IS A SIN.

Let's face it, these folks think that they are entitled to lie because they are better than everyone else; especially the working man.

So true. I used to work for a labor union that was involved in the construction trades. The apprenticeship program, which was difficult to get into, was 6 months of training and education. It was no walk in the park.

I took out my own stitches last month. That makes me a surgeon. Let me know if you ever need your gallbladder removed.

I honestly wonder how many illnesses and accidents happen in fundieland cause a self-proclaimed health specialist, electrician, car mechanic etc. screws things up...

Is Zack Bates a cop? I thought I saw a pic of him in a uniform. If JD was a real cop, he'd have to go to an Academy or training of sorts. Even backwoods bumfuck towns don't just pass out guns and shiny badges.

Get enough votes, and they do. A constable in Arkansas has full police powers, and is elected into office.

I remember reading an interview and JB talked about career paths he wanted for his daughters. It was Michelle who wanted them to be wives and mothers. It was telling IMO.

I honestly wonder if JB is as into the whole religion thing as Michelle is.
