Duggars, Duggars Everywhere - general discussion Part 4

The book doesn't seem to be popular. So far I've only found one library in the California Link system that has it on order.

Well, since Jesus turned water to something else anyway, I could believe it could be grape juice because if he has powers, that's not too much of a stretch.

The other instances where wine drinking is endorsed though? Not so easy to explajn away. Like where Timothy is going to get the "grape juice" for his stomach?

I think there are many reasons a person might not drink alcohol and many reasons both historical and modern where pastors/priests/ministers etc might have discouraged their flocks from drinking it, but to pretend its not there in the bible is silly. To compare apples to oranges it's certainly mentioned a lot more than homosexuality or many other hot button issues.

Are you serious? Who the hell do the Duggars think they are?? If grandma was bleeding out and had a serious life threatening injury it really doesn't matter who treated her

It's a KNEE, for pity's sake! It's not like she broke a rib and had to whip out her boobs! :cray-cray:

So modesty is more important than medical attention? Fuck you, JB, just fuck you! My grandmother would stick her cane up my uncle's ass or beat him upside his head with it if he tried that shit like that.

But, for the Duggars, a knee is something that has to be censored from the tv audiences. Remember Jichelle's water skiing?

I really wonder if the modesty problem was JB's or Mary's. JIm Bob has never objected to Michelle getting medical care from a male provider, so I am wondering why it would be so objectionable for his mother. Maybe it is Mary herself who did not want care from male medical personnel.

Remember that it was Mary who was extremely religious and sent JB to religious private school. JB may have taken the religiosity to the utmost extreme, but I don't think we can rule out that Mary has strict views on her own modesty independent of JB.

Okay, but is it even realistic to request medical professionals of the gender of your choice? Admittedly I live a land of the dreaded universal healthcare and, for the most part, you don't get a hell of a lot of choice when it comes to which professional you see, but really? What's she going to do if one of the paramedics in the closest available ambulance is a bloke, or the radiographer, or the orthopedic surgeon(there's not a hell of a lot of female orthopedic surgeons about)?

On the other hand, what would happen if JB ended up in hospital? Would he expect only male staff? Seeing as only about 8% of RNs in my country are male (and a good proportion seem to work in psych),well, good luck with that one. And JB being JB, he'd probably be a right arse to male RNs because he'd see their job as a 'feminine'.

And let's not even mention the hypocrisy of demanding female healthcare attendants while decrying further education or employment for women.

The Library of Congress catalog entry actually indicates that 2 copies are going to be put on the shelf.

Not that the poor J'Slaves will ever get to step foot in the Library of Congress

I find the male vs female doctor thing interesting. Because on one hand they want a female for modesty reasons, but a male when it comes to family examples, because fundies don't believe woman can be doctors....

Perhaps its because paramedics aren't actually doctors?

They would positively flip out if they found out a doctor treating them was gay or lesbian. My husband's cardiologist is a gay man but I am going out on a limb here and assume most gay/lesbian physicians are more "behind the scenes" physicians such as anesthesiologists, pathologists and radiologists. I would lump ER physicians into that group since none of those practices are independent medical practices that a reliant on voluntary clients. For all they know, a gay doctor may have reviewed their lab reports or xrays. Just for the sake of argument, I will throw in Muslim doctors as well. At our hospital there is a Critical Care specialist who is Muslim. He is also one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I bet JB would not want to be under the care of a Muslim physician. I hope JB doesn't become ill in my neck of the woods. He may be seen by both the Critical Care doctor and/or our cardiologist.

The Duggars will be doing a fundraiser for US Senate candidate Mark Harris in Raleigh on March 14. Here are the prices they are asking people to pay for a "hot dog supper":

They've made up an event I've never seen before - a hot dog supper. It sounds dreadful. Add in the price and the Duggars and I'm thrilled I'll be unable to attend.

Wieners with wieners? No thanks--I'll pass & save the $25 difference.

Or a male nurse can put in the catheter - maybe that would be even worse!

Radar online has an article of 19 duggar "scandals"

radaronline.com/photos/duggar-family-secrets-scandals/photo/629072/

"16. Eldest daughter Jana has admitted that she sometimes resents having to shoulder a large part of the responsibility for the Duggar brood. “For the past few months, I’ve just been really struggling with my attitude toward different family members,†she admitted in 2010. “I really need to love my family … I’ve asked the Lord to help me… because it’s not a one-time thing.â€"

Now this I could believe. I've only got one younger sibling and even I get bent out of shape at times (and I'd imagine most people do at some point). I'm not surprised in the least by this one, rather somewhat happy to hear the poor girl come out and say it.

To hell with Jinger, free Jana!

I hope Boob gets into a situation where he or one of his kids needs a female dr. He's such a tool. How come J'Chelle can see a female gyno, but the rest of their drs are male?

Free Jana! She deserves to be happy. Obviously the Kool-Aide life isn't working for her anymore. How many Journeys has she been on lately?

The ratings for the latest "The Little Couple" are in and they are out of this world...ratings 19K can only dream about. (I believe the ratings were in the neighborhood of two and a half times better than 19K) I wonder how much does Jim Boob follow the ratings of his show and if he has any concerns. The ratings for 19K have been on a downward trend for a couple of years now. Their show is both boring and creepy. I pray their ratings continue to slide.

The Little Couple seems real, genuine, nice, human. The Roloffs were ugly. The Duggars boring.

Slightly off topic but I always wondered what it'd be like for a queer person in that family. I know we don't speculate on the sexuality of minors (and with good reason), but say one of the adult girls for example were interested in other women. They are the ones who have to be on the lookout for their brothers and alert them with a quick "nike" should any defrauding harlots come tramping by. But man how sweet would it be to be interested in women and given cart carte blanche to check them out, without letting the family know of your interest of course? Strange subject I know, but as a woman who dates women I just keep wondering how I would handle being queer in that family. I do know I would be a hell of a lot more sneaky ;)

And the ratings for the little couple do not surprise me in the least. I think a part of the reason they are so popular is because they keep it "real"as opposed to the majority of reality shows seem to be following some type of manufactured drama theme and come across as scripted. (Welcome to Myrtle Manor anyone? Not going to lie its my guilty pleasure) Jen and Bill are open about their lives and struggles in a way that is rarely seen (or at least authentically anyway) on tv. Plus the love they feel for one another and their excitement and joy over becoming parents is so freaking inspiring. I dare you not to cry at Zoey's homecoming.

I'd been showing my daughter a story in Runner's World about two runners with dwarfism that ran last year's Boston Marathon and she asked when the new season of The Little Couple started. I'll have to tell her it already has.
