I just read a news report that said that only the non-profit ministries is closing. The for-profit one which sells Doug's CDs will remain open.

Well, there goes my day...

Scott Brown is a piece of work, I've got to say. He's on the board of directors of VF, for crying out loud. He's known all along that the primary motivation for VF to exist was to provide a platform for Doug Phillips to go hunting for anacondas and to play dress-ups. He's had ample opportunity to change the way things were operating, or to step down if he didn't like the way things were done and even if his directorship was a figure-head role, Doug's showboating and pageantry were no secret to anyone. He was quite happy to have his name associated with VF for years, it's only when the shit hits the fan that he feels the need to preach against his male, epicurean 'friend'?

Fundie's (especially the Calvinist ones) are renowned for some pretty nasty church politics and finding offense at the most minor points of difference, but this is just out-and-out backstabbing. Doug Phillips may be a tool, but Scott Brown is a snake in the grass. Re-reading the Eph 511 blog, I shouldn't be surprised. I think he's positioning himself and his organisation to fill the void that the collapse of VFM will bring.

Interesting comment posted on the Facebook page of homeschoolers anonymous regarding closing of ministry.

'I happen to know from an inside source that it was fact HIGHLY inappropriate. Doug can quibble all he wants over biblically "knowing" someone but that is a bunch of hog wash. It was scandalous and he will be lucky to escape jail. That's all I can say.'

If this turns out to be true, that the tool did something that comes with a prison sentence (and not white collar jail, mind you), maybe it was something truly horrendous, something involving minors. :pink-shock:

If this source is accurate, it can only be a very young but not underage person 'he did not know biblically'. pedophilia would almost certainly send you to jail, no lucky about it and is a hell of a lot more than scandalous .

Makes me suspect that his inamorata was not just underage, but an inamorato

Holy moly.....Maybe he really did Schaap himself. I keep seeing the affair's duration reported as approximately six years. If that's the case, the other party could easily have been under age at the start of it all. Maybe that's why they haven't drug her out for a public shaming. It would only make things worse for Doug. I bet Scott is loving this. He'll be King over whatever remains.

Good point. He woudn't have put the "know the woman biblically" comment out there if there was a kid on the way. Could he have blown all the VF funds on placating his mistress? I still think the two sins are connected somehow. Who uncovered this scandal and actually had the cojones to hold Doug accountable for something?

I really wanted to go on a internet fast this week so I could actually get some work done. It looks like that won't be happening. :D

I would say that is true, but John Edwards. Men have claimed to not know women biblically and later proven to be their fathers all the time.

I feel nostalgic already, so: Doug Phillips is a tool

I'm going to miss the Doug Phillips threads. In fact I'll have to have a toast in his honor when the for profit side closes.

This is what I was afraid of :( As many have pointed out in books, blogs, etc., the patriarchy/purity movement creates conditions ripe for the development of emotional incest (and I use "incest" in the broad sense; i.e., not restricted to close family members). IF Dougie was involved with a minor over a period of years, she will never completely recover, even if she escapes the system.

I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

I hope he was not involved with a minor

Me too, but it would explain the unusual step of not outing the woman. I'm rather nauseated thinking of the implications.

No way this guy is resigning because he had an affair with a woman.

I'm going with "It's complicated"....

I'm a sick, sad woman for wondering what Dougie is hiding behind that tricorn hat. I'll be convulsing in the prayer closet if you need me.

I"ll go get the popcorn and the folding chairs. Ohhh...here is to hoping Colbert, Nancy Grace, or Rachel Maddow get wind of this.

What would it take for Vision Forum Inc to go down? I can't imagine that their sales are going to survive unscathed, especially without a print catalogue.

I wonder if the "escaped jail" comment means that Dougie was with a minor, but he can't be convicted because the statute of limitations ran out.

Wow, that house of cards was certainly quick to tumble over. How much longer before VFI shuts down?

Nothing new to add, only that its looking like it's going to be ugly. It will all come out eventually...but interesting it hasn't come out already.

:popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2:

FYI...interesting it's been almost exactly 9 months from the time he resigned as an elder at BCA and stepped down from VFM. It might not mean anything at all, but could he have had a baby with a different mama?

Hmmm... Little Bear Wheeler's Mantle Ministries website just got its first update in about a decade. Looks like he's back in business. Awesome timing, don't you think?

I feel strangely compelled to post a passage from "Fanny Hill".

Warning - 18th century pornographic literature follows.

Next we took from the side of the room a long broad bench, made easy to lie at length on by a soft cushion in a callico-cover; and every thing being now ready, he took his coat and waistcoat off; and at his motion and desire, I unbutton'd his breeches, and rolling up his shirt rather above his waist, tuck'd it in securely there: when directing naturally my eyes to that humoursome master-movement, in whose favour all these dispositions were making, it seemed almost shrunk into his body, scarce shewing its tip above the sprout of hairy curls that cloathed those parts, as you may have seen a wren peep its head out of the grass.

I would imagine many of his followers will defect to ATI, if they are not Gothardites already, they will become unaffiliated like the Maxwells, or just keep on under the new regime. We know the LIAS family will stay or really has to simply because of Perry's employment.

I'm really surprised they announced ANY closure before the big Christmas shopping season. I wonder if they will have a fire-sale or just wait to "officially" close when the storehouse is empty.

I think ATI may get a boost but I doubt most of the sycophants will just transfer over. IBLP might have a similar end result, but in the world of Christian doctrine they're coming from very different backgrounds. Reformed denominations tend to be very snobbish about 'correct' doctrine and there's no way the stuff coming from IBLP will pass muster.

I predict the ex-A list associates either opening up 'ministries' or extending or transforming their current operations to fill the market.

I'm willing to put a fiver on Scott Brown stepping up any day now. I'm not sure whether it will be through NCFFIC, or if he'll be opening a side business focusing on education, but I'm pretty much certain.
