The Courtship of Jessa Duggar - Part 2

Our cats matured a bit faster than we expected and we had reason to think there was a possibility that one was pregnant when we had them spayed. I did some googling about that situation and it turns out it's not uncommon, but I was surprised to find people who consider that abortion and are very against it. It's like just the word abortion scares them because I can't imagine that they're all strict vegans.

In Ben's case, I think he probably just thinks saying "human abortion" makes it sound more serious.

Heck a factory production doesn't even have rosters so there is no possibility of a chick forming on those eggs so Ihave no idea what a Fundie would make of thatQQ

The only explanation I can think of is that Mr. Ben gets really het up about the injustice of fetal pig dissections. :animals-pig:

A case of believing 'quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur'??

in case you don't know the Latin and don't want to Google:

'whatever is said in Latin sounds profound'

Yep. I was surprised to see it between the low chances of him having actually studied Latin and the Catholic associations with its use.

Years ago, when I was about 6 years old, my mom and I took in a stray cat that was wandering around the neighborhood. We'd been feeding her since she was a kitten, and she got a forever home with us when she was about 6 months old. Not long after that, we realized she was pregnant. My mother, not knowing any better, let the pregnancy go to term, and the cat had 4 kittens. All 4 kittens didn't make it, and our cat nearly died as well. The vet told us that our kitty was too young and small to have kittens of her own, and this was a big part of why things went wrong. It was awful, she was in the hospital a week and had to have I.V. fluids continuously.

Fast forward about 20 years later, and a friend of mine gives me a kitten. The cat is 6 months old, has not been spayed, and the she is pregnant. I didn't even think twice - we got her fixed immediately and made sure she had an abortion. I didn't want to risk putting her through the same thing and losing her.

Something about this whole thing just doesn't sit right. It feels very artificial. At least with Josh and the hand porn, grape juice, Lego moments seemed genuine. Gross, naive and just plain wrong but they were both front and center. IDK but I feel the BS meter ticking in this one.

Something seems slightly off kilter and I can't quite put my finger on it. I don't know what exactly it is. I don't know if it's Ben, I know know if it's Jim Blob, I don't know if it's just the creepiness in general. But I don't know, something seems weird.

Maybe they're not engaged yet and that's why we haven't seen hand sex and heard Lego talk. We know there's another season of 19Kids, so maybe they're filming all that for our viewing enjoyment. I'm curious to see if they'll make such a big deal with Jessa's courtship like they did with Josh, since Josh not only was the first but he's also a male.

To me the fact that Ben got all preachy on facebook just after becoming known, and is 18, like yeah you must know life well. And will be supporting a family soon through unknown means. At least Josh's car lot was plausible.

Overall it just seems VERY convenient for all parties involved (including Boob, of course).

I think that's it - the second he became known he made himself a fan page and started preaching fundie bullcrap. You hit the nail on the head.

I'm surprised that his regular FB page hasn't been made "Friends only." I can still see that page as well as the "fan page." Why bother with the latter when the former is still accessilbe (and basically has all the same fundie content)?

The human abortion thing made me laugh. Maybe he just wants to make it really clear that he likes eggs for breakfast.

I have been getting the same weird vibe as all of you. I think he feels big and important. She's beautiful, she's famous, and now she's about to be his property (in fundie world). He's treating her like a trophy. If he really respected her, maybe he'd make those pics private, and he'd stay out of the limelight, at least until things were really moving (public engagement/wedding). Then again, I don't know what their relationship is like.

This is totally bitchy but did anyone else get irritated by the way he was just slouched there sitting near Jessa at the flea Market? It seemed entitled to me. Come on, your trying to win her over at least sit up straight and act a little adult. I agree with the posts above, there is a fame whore quality to his FB progression. Also, hat in the house or at the dinner table???? No Bueno for a southern gentleman( Dugger brood included)

I have a hinky feeling about it too. I think part of it is his age and another thing is the famewhore vibe he's giving me. That his interest came from seeing the Duggars on TV feels like a huge red flag.

This dress is divine. If I found that somewhere, you bet I'd wear it. Something really crazy would have to come up for me to change my mind, lol.

(quoted from the link above)

 No anxiousness is (sometimes) a serious illness that needs to be treated before it spirals out of control.

Edited to clarify.

I agree.

My sister has an anxiety disorder that made her life quite horrible until her doctors found the right medication for her. She would have numerous panic attacks per week and, at one point, she stopped eating because of it and had to be hospitalized in order to get her weight back up. All of this before she was 12 years old. She's now in her 30s and recently tried to go off her medication (under a doctor's supervision) to see if she could make it without it. Nope. It was a very scary couple of weeks for her and our family.

So, I should just tell her that her entire life has been a sin and she should trust more in God? Even better, tell her that an 18 year old with no life experience and no education said so? Pffft. No thanks.

Thing is, Ben is 18. I don't know how well off his family is, but I imagine he's never had to deal with legitimate worry/anxiety/etc. Ben can go fuck a cactus. I imagine he also thinks depression, eating disorders, and everything else related to mental health is a sin, the little asshole. Wonder how the little jerk feels about physical disabilities.

My grandmother, my mother, myself, and at least one of my cousins all suffer from depression. I was raised to believe that this was caused by demons and sin and that instead of seeking professional help, I should just pray more. Combine that with being a closeted gay teen and I really think the only reason I never tried to kill myself was the combo of being terrified of hell and intensely guilty at the thought of hurting my parents. There's no telling just how much misery the kind of bullshit this Ben dude is peddling has caused, but I don't think it's far-fetched to say that people have killed themselves because of the fundie resistance to seeking help for mental illness.

The Bible does tell Christians not to worry and not to be afraid or anxious about anything. In some ways that is an admonition - if you actively choose to be pessimistic instead of optimistic or to always see the worst in every situation, you may be sinning - but I think it's more of an encouragement. It has nothing to do with mental illness. Mental illness is just that, an illness, and if God is real he knows that. I doubt Ben understands the difference between day to day worries and a true anxiety disorder. Sadly he'll be patted on the back and told he's preaching God's word by all the other fundies around him, and he will only become more arrogant and convinced of his own genius. Someone should remind him that humility is one of the most important Christian virtues, and that its opposite, pride, is the worst of all sins.

Signed, a Christian who has suffered from severe depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. :)

Aye, it's true that the Bible does tell people not to worry. However, I think people rip that verse out of context and use it to say mental illness is a sin. Any worry is a sin. Obsessive worrying you can't control no matter how hard you try is a sin. It may be there, but again, I think it's one of those verses people like to use to make it mean what they want it to mean, not what it's supposed to mean.

I admit that I am really bitter about this topic, as I've been told many times I'm sinning because I have depression, PTSD, and GAD. That I'm sinning because I see a worldly therapist instead of a Christian counselor. That I'm sinning because I take anti anxiety pills twice a day. So, I guess it's slightly touchy with me.

Ugg, I wish I could share more about my life. But this makes me so angry. Shaming people with mental illness is wrong.

No more chicken abortions!

OT, but I have to share this story.

When my BFF and I were teenagers, her little sister asked us (while making breakfast) why cooking eggs were so noisy.

We proceeded to tell her that they were the screams of the chicken fetuses as they cooked alive.

She FREAKED OUT, released the rest of the eggs in the front yard, and to this day - nearly 30 years old - will NOT touch eggs.
