"Don't Show My Son That"

Poor Kristen. We need to send her some horse blinders to calm her down. Her preoccupation with this issue is quite interesting. I wonder if it is really modesty she's thinking about or something else, with the code word "modesty" and the emphasis on her son being her way of packaging her obsession in a way she feels is socially / religiously acceptable. Just wondering.

Her reaction reminds me of the Ray Stevens song, The Streak, where he repeatedly yelled, "Don't look Ethel!" Of course when someone says "Don't look!" you are going to look. At least I would.

"But it was too late, she'd already got a free shot..."

I'm a sucker for novelty songs :shifty:

I don't get why people get so worked up over little girls in bikinis. My girls have never worn anything else. Two pieces are easier to take on and off to go potty, and they like wearing as little as possible in the water. In fact, if we're at home, just us girls, we don't even wear tops! Scandalous! Our bodies are beautiful, and they are nothing to be ashamed of. We slather on the sunscreen and enjoy the sun and the water on our bare skin. To me, it's only sexy if you make it sexy. A bikini covers the important parts just as well as a one piece or tankini. Any bathing suit isn't leaving much to the imagination anyway, as it's form fitting. Even a dress or t shirt will cling when wet.

I really have a problem with people teaching body shame to children. No wonder fundies and conservatives have so many hang ups and struggle with sex and porn addictions.

One of my favorite things about being at the Rainbow Family Gatherings is the freedom the little ones have to be without clothes. There are very few things as beautiful as a child being that free. Free from shame and judgement and just being themselves.

...children don't wear adult clothes and constantly cover up. They are weans, they are sweet and one looks on them indulgently, WITHOUT dwelling on their pornographic potential. Dwelling on their pornographic potential is what paedos do.

I'm actually a huge fan of fair-skinned toddlers wearing tshirts and hats when they're out in the sun, but that's purely because of the skin-damage risk.

That woman's a nut. The chances are very, very high that when her son grows up he's going to want to look at women in bikinis* and the fact that he once saw a toddler wearing a bikini is going to be nowt to do with it.

Totally agree with you. We slap loads of suncream on our weans in my family, even though said weans are mixed race. They can still burn, and they won't enjoy that much.

And does she really think looking at a toddler in a bikini will spark lusts he never would have had otherwise? I agree bikinis with cup parts look a bit strange on a small child, but the child wearing them is still...a child.

If a person is having worrying thoughts about any kids, I would say "Go to your doctor and speak about it, because there's help out there for you, and you are a very brave person for admitting that and trying to address it." I wouldn't say "That's the fault of those tiny temptresses! I bet they were flaunting themselves in their bikinis and you couldn't help looking, right?"

That jumped out at me, too. I mean, wtf.

We live in just about the reddest section of all the red states, with fundies of all stripes everywhere you go. And yet, my daughter's day care is chock full of anatomically correct dolls, so you often hear things like "Be careful of his penis!" when picking the kids up after school.

Imagine how frightening it would be for these girls on their wedding nights.

I only have boys but if I had girls I could not imagine the horror of taking them to the bathroom in a one piece. Especially when the bathing suit is wet ughh. Getting it back on seems horrible.

Also, all of this purity business must make for a terrible sex life. I'm sorry but I just don't think these people are set up for healthy, enjoyable sex lives as adults.

Is it weird that "peduncle" sounds like the dirtiest part of the plant?

Because it is the guy you want to keep the kids away from at the family reunion.
