This is going to be very weird but my favourite film ever is Air Force One.

There are many things to recommend this. The absolute daftness of the scenario. The crazy set points (how could the Prez get out of the pad? Cutting red white and blue wires?) The fact the terrorists actually make coherent political points and if you could reason you'd agree with them. Also, the Prez's daughter who wanted to go to a refugee camp should have been shot right away, no messing (I know she couldn't have been because she was needed as a hostage, but that wasn't known at the start and she's well annoying).

I would love to know how "neocommunism" is different from "communism".

I have two favourite scenes. One is where someone gets shot and you can see the blood on the curtains BEFORE THEY'RE ACTUALLY SHOT. Which kind of ruins the moment.

The other one is when the terrorists burst into the room where the "good guys" are and everyone screams. Don't know why, but I like that bit. Used to watch it on repeat. ;)

Two ways to respond to the curtains thing:

1- so bad it's good

2- construct elaborate theory about clairvoyant curtains; rewatch film with theory in mind

Favorite is Shawshank Redemption, although Little Miss Sunshine and Twelve Angry Men are up there. I don't get Citizen Kane...I know what it's supposed to be, and I know that it's in a bunch of top 100 whatever lists, but I still spent the whole movie going "Damn it, would somebody do something!" And Brazil just makes me cringe.

Exactly! It is a long movie where nothing seems to really happen.

worst film ever, hands down, Magnolia.

It's...stuipd. Nothing happens and it's like 3 fucking hours long.

(To be fair, I knew nothing about it. Drove home from college to spend the weekend w/ my baby sister who wanted to see it. She knew little about it. We didn't realize it was so long, we missed our other plans because of it, and she got in trouble because I brought her back after curfew and my parents didn't quite believe us about where we were. )

I have a weird fondness for "Strange Brew".

It's stupid. Incredibly stupid. And it's Hamlet re-written about a beer factory. And it's hilariously stupidly stuipd. And I own it on VHS and DVD.

I didn't like Magnolia either but I loved the soundtrack.

Fave movies: Clue, Waitress, About a Boy, Billy Elliot, Illegally Yours, Benny and Joon. I like movies with obscure, witty dialogue. :)

Movies I don't get: Legends of the Fall. Maybe it was because I'd just given birth when I saw it, but it was the most horribly depressing movie I'd ever seen to that point in my life. I don't understand why anyone would ever want to watch it a second time.

Favorite is Shawshank Redemption, although Little Miss Sunshine

So heart both of those; they did a great job with Shawshank based on Stephen King's short story -- one of the few of his that was really in keeping with the story. "Firestarter" was another.

worst film ever, hands down, Magnolia.

So agree. Tons of great actors having to deal with a plodding storyline.

Movies I love: Fargo

Woot! Love this movie, and all the Coen brothers' movies! "Son of a Gunderson." "Don't get snippy with me, Mr. Lundergard. I'm just trying to do my job."

Movie confession: I heart every.single.cheesy.80s.movie.ever.

I adore Lion in Winter, but can NEVER catch the beginning on cable. Anything with Hepburn, Davis, Viv Leigh, any of the old stars I go gaga for. Love Oh, Brother Where Art Thou ("I'm a Dapper Dan man  " + pretty much every line in the movie is gold to me and the music takes me back to my Nannie and Pawpaw's porch), Stargate is just awesome in its James Spaderness, and Tombstone cause it's Tombstone and it's the only western I've ever liked. I just don't get the Twilight movies cause I'm one of the few who wanted to pop Bella up side the head and get her a fucking shrink  I also just don't get the whole Star Wars sacred cow thing either or my hubbie's taste in movies....GIJoe?! I will not watch a wrestler act unless it's The Rock and that's just cause he's eye candy and doesn't suck totally. Also LOVE Vin Deisel *pant* but don't care about the quality of movie cause he's just hotness.

Favorites: Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, the original Star Wars trilogy, Star Trek: First Contact, and a few others that I can't recall off the top of my head.

I didn't get Signs at all. So much of the movie didn't make sense to me and I wondered why it was hailed as such a great movie. Matilda is another one I didn't care for. Probably because I loved the book as a kid and the movie changed a lot of things in the book.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Probably the most boring movie I have ever seen. I've never been so happy when someone has died in a movie because that meant it was OVER. People love it, but I've never seen the appeal.

Also, Bridesmaids. Just ok. When people were going on and on about it I wondered if we saw the same the movie. Also, when I saw it in the theatre everyone laughed at the one character's story about being bullied. Her story was just sad, not funny at all.

Edited because there is more to the title than just Benjamin Button.

I maintain that "Casablanca" is still the most perfect movie ever made. I will fight like a ninja anyone who dares to oppose me in this.

I hated, hated, hated, hated "Bridesmaids." I just didn't get it. At all. Under no circumstances. It wasn't funny. I didn't laugh once. The scene in the bridal shop was disgusting, not funny. And Kristin Wigg's character was so sad and depressing, not at all funny. I just DON'T.GET.IT.

I secretly love the "Twilight" movies because after a few cocktails they are HILARIOUS.

I do love Wes Anderson movies but I really, really don't understand Paul Thomas Anderson movies. I hated Magnolia.

Oh my god. Seriously. I thought it would never end.

Favorites: Eternal Sunshine (yes, I did have to watch it a few times to get it, and I still feel that some of it is intentionally ambiguous), Garden State, Black Swan, The Wedding Singer, School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, Pulp Fiction, Memento, The Breakfast Club, Almost Famous, Ted, Fight Club, The Others, Office Space, anything Hitchcock or Tim Burton. I will admit to enjoying most Judd Apatow joints, especially SuperBad and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Hated: Happiness (oh so squicky), The Talented Mr. Ripley, most chick flix, any type of torture porn. Bridesmaids was a huge disappointment.

Didn't Get: Donnie Darko, Inception (my ADHD kicks in every time I try to watch it.)

ETA: I can't stand the James Bond films. Any of them.

I really liked Inception! Everyone was saying it was so complicated and that they didn't get it but I found it pretty easy to follow. Although, that was after everyone had said it was so complicated so I went into the movie knowing I had to pay really close attention. I'm sure that helped some.

ehhhh, I dunno. I don't think I didn't understand of it and I did not feel it was all that ambiguous or difficult. It just didn't trip my emotion switches.

My favorite movies are the Bourne movies- the ones with Matt Damon. I will watch anything with Matt Damon in it.

I absolutely hated the Sixth Sense. It scared to me so much that I couldn't sleep for a week. Same with the Amityville Horror movie. I knew exactly what was going to happen, but still scared.

JFC, I really liked Air Force One. :) It was so bad that it was good. Same with the movie Face/Off.

ZOMG Clue! I love that movie. So many awesome lines. :) Which ending is your favorite?

Loved: All Wes Anderson films, especially The Royal Tenebaums & Fantastic Mr Fox. Oh, and The Life Aquatic. Clue, Eternal Sunshine, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), Newsies, documentaries such as The Parrots of Telegraph Hill, Tapped, Helvetica. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a favorite, as is Casablanca. Forgetting Sarah Marshall I actually really liked even though I understand that it is a terrible movie. Dazed and Confused - I loved it when I was a teen

Hated: Most big name films, like Avatar. I still don't know what happened, the 3D gave me a headache and it was boring. Titanic I wanted to like but it turned into this giant pop culture thing that was so overdone. Bridesmaids was not funny, it was gross. Superbad was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen I don't think I laughed once. The Grey was so bad we still have conversations about it.

I love the Twilight films because they are so stupid I find them funny. They lift my spirits because they are so stupid and people love them. I can't wait till Breaking Dawn II comes out so I can watch. I might even give in because I find them so funny. NOW, on the other hand, I'm glad the craze is going down because I DON'T want my children to read the books - I think they are damaging in the "what is acceptable in a boy" arena. Both Jacob and Edward are abusive pratts and, while Bella was an idiot, she didn't deserve that crap.

I loved Moon so much, I bought the DVD for a friend to watch. My recently fave movies are: Cabin in the Woods and The Bay. I love virus/end of the world movies - so there's that.

I found Bridesmaids depressing - I felt for the blonde chic's situation and felt like her friend put her in a bad place. I find a lot of comedies just depressing. :(

God I love Clue. My H had never seen it and he was so skeptical. He seriously was expecting it to be stupid - but ended up adoring it.

Also, favorite movie from childhood: National Velvet

I'm just pleased that my eighth grade niece sees herself as a Katniss rather than a Bella and hopes to marry Peeta from The Hunger Games rather than either of those abusive boors from the Twilight Saga.

I unironically love Thir13en Ghosts. The acting is hammy as hell, but the costumes for the ghosts (especially the Torn Prince, the Hammer, and the Jackal) are SO GOOD.
