    Star Trek

Thought I'd start a thread for all things Star Trek. I like Discovery and look forward to each new episode. That said I was thinking that if I was in charge of Discovery when it was first made I would have made time travel and section 31 verboten. As in no shows being done about either in any form. They're both crutches that the writers use to the show's detriment.
  2. Has anyone seen this film on Netflix? It's written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (and I guess Steven Spielberg?), so if he's not your thing then you likely won't like it, but it's a fictional (with some fairly obvious liberties) retelling of the time when anti-war protesters were arrested and tried in Chicago during the sixties. Sacha Baron Cohen (I wish he would do more drama, he's good at it) plays Abbie Hoffman, a well known 60s Activist. And it took me forever to realize that the Federal Prosecutor was Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

    Misc Movie Stuff

Thought I’d start a catch all place for movie stuff. To start...I was at the local Hy-Vee last night when I saw this. I call it Life Imitating Spaceballs.
  4. Figured I'd get a head start on the thread. First, if I was wearing one of these I'd have a question for George... Namely if it's such a good idea to wear red like that given how many guys in red shirts got permanent early retirements on that other weird ass looking starship....
  5. I hear tell that Jason Momoa is totally down with the idea of doing a Twins remake with Peter Dinklage. I also am down with that. I totally want to see the Khal Drogo/Tyrion Lannister version of this scene... And the looks of terror on the Klane brothers faces when Drogo starts his crown for king you moved too soon funny talk....
  6. RIP Chewbacca
  7. Episode IX has a title now, The Rise of Skywalker Looking forward to it.

    RIP Stan Lee

Stan Less has passed at the age of 95. Truly a legend.

    The Big Lebowski

You see what happens Larry?! You see what happens when you fornicate a stranger in the Alps?! (Going out on a limb here to guess someone had done some fixing of cables).
  10. What are your favourite TV shows or movies with an atheist or agnostic theme, or where a faith group is shown in an anti-theist way? Mine has got to be Moral Orel. I like the moments on Young Sheldon that bring up religion too. I watched Impastor for a while, but it started to get not so funny to me, so I stopped. For movies, I find it hard to find good ones that aren't documentaries, but I like Life of Brian and Orgasmo.
  11. Awwww....David Duke is worried he'll look like an idiot. Yeah the looking like a dumb fornicate ship has said already, David.
  12. Nick Loeb is trying to make a (conservative) start-studded, pro-life movie about Roe v. Wade. Things are . . . not going well. Who would have thought that deceiving people into working on your movie would lead to problems? https://news.avclub.com/this-pro-life-roe-v-wade-movie-with-jon-voight-and-sta-1827325571

    Florida Project

I went to see Florida Project yesterday and I'm still in schock. It's an amazing movie. I don't have the words for it. When the film ended there was a really long moment of silence in the theatre. Just like nobody dared to move or even speak. I never experienced something like that before. Has anybody else seen it? If you haven't you really should. It is a great movie and probably Willem Dafoe's last one.

    I, Tonya

So, a few days ago I got to watch "I, Tonya" (it premiered here in Central Europe on March 2nd, bc why not!). I think the story is extraordinary and it's CRAZY how it's real! Also, I love the dynamics of the movie and amazing performance by the cast (congrats on the Oscar, Alison!). Since most of you guys here are US based, I can't help but ask! Do you have any recollections on that incident at the time it happened? What is your personal opinion on the story - do you think Tonya knew/was somehow complicit in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan? And even before all that happened, what was the public opinion on Tonya and Nancy? Which one of them was more liked? And of course, the most important thing - what do you guys thnk about the movie - do you think it was fair and gave Tonya Harding a second chance or maybe it's insensitive to Nancy as a victim of an assault?

    Bad Christian Movies

So I've seen that there are a few threads for specific movies, but I haven't found a general thread for religious movies so I decided to create one The title says "bad" Christian movies, but that's of course always subjective. I think there are a lot of Christian movies out there that are worth discussing or that deserve some snark Feel free to share reviews and trailers and your experiencing watching these movies. I recently watched the Christian version of High School Musical, called Sunday School Musical and even though I expected it to be bad, it turned out to be even worse. If you though that the music in HSM was too simple and cheesy... lullabies are more exciting than the soundtrack of this movie and it's also a very cheep production.
  16. Episode VIII has an official name now... yahoo.com/tech/star-wars-last-jedi-official-name-episode-viii-162509169.html

    The Shack

The Shack is based on a book written 10 years ago. The Christians I know that have watched it liked it. I didn't like it that much but I liked how well Octavia Spencer played her role. Parts of it did make me cry but it was designed to do that. Certain people believe that portraying God as a woman was heretical. I am just glad I didn't pay for a movie ticket to watch it.

    Wonder Woman

Who is pumped for the Wonder Woman movie?! It just looks awesome. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Went and seen the latest Transformers movie tonight. I don't think it was as bad as what the reviewers are saying, but it was a little bit long and convoluted. I think if they had cut out some of the excess it would have been a better film. I think I like Hound the most since he's Walter Sobchak in Cybertronian form.

    Oscar Nominations

Any thoughts on the Oscar nominees? I've only seen three of the best picture nominees; Manchester by the Sea, Arrival, and Hell or High Water. I originally thought Manchester dragged and was too low key (and a downer), but I found myself still thinking about it a week or two later and realized there was more to it than I first thought. I loved both Arrival and Hell or High Water (Arrival in particular), but La La Land (haven't seen) seems to be the favorite.
  21. So I'm binge watching season 2 (so far) of Blindspot. Yes, I have a TV addiction. No, I'm not going to reform. While watching an episode this morning before my weekly trip to my weight watchers cult meeting an episode dropped in the tidbit that Joss Whedon wrote 'the good parts' of the movie Speed. Say what? Now Speed is a movie I've seen eleventy times. I've used it for 20+ years to study plot structure. And Joss Whedon is not who got the credit (Graham Yost did). So I took to google and found an interview at Huffington Post about this with Whedon. I think I'm going to have to watch Speed again. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/10/joss-whedon-speed_n_5473795.html

    The Oustiders

That you Mental Floss. http://www.mentalfloss.com/article/80698/12-facts-about-outsiders-will-stay-gold This reminded me of a bit on TMZ that I caught once where Rob Lowe pointed out that Patrick Swayze stood on a brick in a photo. http://www.tmz.com/2008/03/03/lowe-on-swayze-check-out-shorty/
  23. OK, when I was a leeeetle bitty kid (shortly after Edison invented moving pictures), Mom and Dad would let us watch Walt Disney stuff, no problems. But good heavens, Amurrica and the whole world are now in great danger of being corrupted by folks supporting the Ebil Hommaseksxual Agenda! https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/are-we-ready-for-a-gay-disney-princess-we-may-be-closer-than-you-think/2016/05/11/69d3302e-12e2-11e6-81b4-581a5c4c42df_story.html I am not sure whether it's important to be all emotional about Bucky and Pronk's subversion of the PROPER state of matrimony, or whether to be slightly relieved that they're not just fornicating all over the place in sinful open cohabitation....
  24. Why? And this one stars Melissa Joan Hart.
  25. The husband took me to see Star Wars last night. Now, let me tell you, I am not a huge Star Wars devotee (honestly, I don't know that I've seen every minute of all 6 other movies). But the story was enjoyable and the movie had a fabulous feminist bent that elevated it even more, in my opinion. So, wanna talk Star Wars? Who else saw it? Who's going to see it today or sometime this weekend?
