Any word on fundie responses to the election?

Half of my immediate family is very religious and half is not. My gay brother is very excited that Obama won and that Maryland and Main legalized gay marriage. He really wants to marry in the future and is happy that there are more states he can live in that he can do that in. My religous family is beyond upset. Especially my other brother who is extremely anti-gay, anti-abortion. He's been having conversations with my dad non-stop about what will happen to this 'godless' nation.

Oh, and my mom is pretty upset about the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and another state. She says they're going to hell in a handbasket.

Republicans get God's will, and Democrats are the son of satan. Oh hey logical argument...

If you believe "God is the elector of leaders" then put up or shut up.

Ooh, I've got one! I didn't think I would, even my profs were openly celebrating in class this morning.

great, another socialist in power

This guy isn't fundie by any means, in fact I'm not convinced he's religious at all. He's just right-wing and not the brightest...

He's also the aggressively "fuck yeah military" type - in fact, I believe that's what led him to be right-wing in the first place - so it's perfectly incongruent for him to be that strongly against Obama. That's not to mention that he was a hard-core Harper fan in our last election, and Obama isn't even that far to the left of Harper. If those who say Obama isn't left of Harper at all are right, then what does that make his precious Harper?

The Catholic fundies on the forums at Catholic Answers are praying for the strength to endure the continued religious persecutions and attacks on their religious freedoms. And there's a thread calling for a return of the Papal States. One dude announced that he's had enough of secular, socialist 'Murica and is moving his family Costa Rica. And then someone informed him that Costa Rica has universal health care.

On facebook I have just seen a lot of how it was God's will for Obama to be elected so everything is going to be ok. Pretty boring activity, fundy-wise. Most of my friends voted for Obama so there was a lot of celebrating last night.

Mr. Obama's-A-Socialist's status just got piled on. No one agrees with him. This is entertaining.

I have quite a few conservative friends on FB, so I left them last night with a simple but profound wish - "Hillary 2016.... just sayin". I haven't checked yet today to see what kind of hate mail I have.

I was thinking about posting "2016: Hillary/Warren vs. Ryan/Santorum???" just to see what hilarity results from both sides.

Nothing but celebration in my newsfeed this morning. I said this in a Merry Band of Bitches thread, but I guess my teabagging friends are all still choking down the big, steaming mug of STFU the country handed them last night.

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.â€

I believe electing Obama again is pure insanity. Didn't America learn anything from his previous term?

It's obvious that the American people are blinded. Blinded by selfishness, laziness and greed.

We want handouts. We don't want to work hard for our money. We want government to clean up our messes, and wipe our..... Okay, yes I should stop there. As you can see I am a bit irritated this morning. Please forgive me!

The world is corrupt and I was made very aware of that fact this morning. It's becoming harder for people to choose good.

Clearly Jesus must be coming back within these 4 years, right?! It just can't get any worse.

A socialist America scares me. And that's exactly where Obama is leading us.

I'm thankful for a sovereign God! He's still on His throne no matter who is in the White House.

God reigns over the nations;

Psalm 47:8.

A girl I know said her rich mother is going to move to Israel so she can stop paying over 50% of her income in taxes.

I'm still trying to figure out why Israel, if anyone has any clue I'd love an explanation.

Oh that's rich like the Catholic church never took part in any religious persecutions of it's own. I find it hilarious that they want to get away from an America they think is becoming a socialist nation by moving to a socialist nation dumbasses.

My fundie cousin just posted this on my FB and I promptly deleted her. I just can't tolerate her bullshit anymore.

There are two important lessons imbedded in last night’s debacle. We are losing the votes of young people. We are losing the votes of women. Why?

The simple answer is that both groups have a disproportionate number who believe that the purpose of government is to “supply my needs.†Why do they believe this?

For young people, the answer is simple: public schools. The vast majority of young peopl

e attend public schools. And it is not merely that the teachers indoctrinate the students to believe that the purpose of government is to furnish our needs—that is more true than not. The far more powerful reason is that public schools furnish the child’s education—the dominating reality of their young lives. It would be astonishing that young people would go to government schools, then graduate to government colleges, or attend private colleges on government subsidies and come out with any conclusion other than “the purpose of government is to provide for my needs.â€

Women are vulnerable to the siren call of “government services†because of the sexual promiscuity of men. Men use, abuse, and abandon women. Divorced women and single moms abound because of the sin of men. We have more unmarried adults than married adults for the first time in American history. This fact has enormous political consequences.

What do we do?

We must start with the Christian population. Christians give your child an education that does not come from the government. You cannot raise a child to believe in freedom when that child is educated by the government.

Christian men. Be sexually pure before marriage. Get married. Treat your wife well. Stay true. Stay married.

Christians must start doing these things right now or our society will never recover.

quick poll: How many of these people do you think REALLY dislike Obama because of facts, and how many are just scared of black people/listen to too much faux news?

edited to add: obviously not all of the people who didn't vote for Obama are racist, but I do know quite a number of people who told my uncle (a reporter) that they'd never vote for a black man and I'm wondering if you guys think that the fundies are a racist bunch?

I think the people bitching about his birth certificate are motivated by racism. If he was the son of white European immigrants he would be living the American dream and proof of our glorious melting pot and blahblahblah. But he's the black son of an African immigrant so he's clearly the anti-christ.

A sad number of people are still determined he's a Muslim terrorist who hates America.

In my neck of the woods I would say that a lot of people didn't vote for Obama based on race and the stupidity they hear on Faux News. Oh, and here's another little gem that got posted to my FB:

Now we will watch you Socialists live with what you've helped create

This was in response to a conversation my friend and I were having about how Obamacare was a step in the right direction. I blocked the jackass. I assume he's FB friends with my friend. I'm now going to make my FB private. It was set to friends of friends.

There's always been a lot of vitriol flung around when the opposition wins, but the language and sentiments directed towards Obama are at hate speech levels and there's no doubt in my mind that it's driven by racism.

Trying to figure this one out, but the crazy person I posted about on the FB thread just posted "ICHABOD". I am seeing a lot of "I'm moving to ......." and they are all countries with socialized health care, and a lot more entitlement programs than here.

This sort of response always tickles me. I know it's just a bunch of hot air, but I would really enjoy a blog by a fundie who actually followed through and tried to emigrate to Canada, or whichever country where they think the core population shares their belief system. They are like chicken littles, thinking the sky is falling. The horrible health coverage for all citizens!! Oh the horror.

I have one "friend" on FB that grew up in my neighborhood. She's a religious conservative and posted something along the lines of "What a disappointing night. So sad." In response, one of her friends wrote "Obama is the Anti-Christ". I didn't post on her thread, but added one of my own saying how happy and relieved I was with the results, and also saying I felt the majority of Americans had spoken loud and clear about what was important to them, which was equality for all, women's rights, and not electing a fat cat whose great wealth stems in large part from bankrupting American firms and shipping those jobs overseas.

I have fundie Catholic family and going by their fb posts and the friends they have on fb, none of their reasons for disliking Obama are based on facts. In fact, any time I tried to correct a blatant lie with actual facts (with reputable source), I got slammed for "attacking" the person. They are also birthers who think he's a muslim, etc and I do agree with a pp that this is racism.

Well if I remember correctly Ichabod is a Biblical name that means "The Glory has departed." as in God's spirit or glory has departed from a place. They are essentially saying God has forsaken America, and has removed his hand of protection from the nation so they are going to jump ship like the little rats they are. I guess since in thier eyes America is now doomed they'll move to a country that they believe is not an immediate target of God's wrath. They basically believe because we are not stoning gays, minorities, pro choicers, feminists and the poor in the streets that we are overdue for a Sodom and Gomorrah type cataclysm.

I will bid them a fond and charitable farewell and send them off with abundant cookies for their journey, if only they really mean it this time. Sometimes I think fundies and Galt-goers overestimate the extent to which the rest of us would miss them if they flounced.

No, I kind of doubt that. She's good, don't get me wrong, but she's too polarizing.

Last night Elizabeth Warren won with a message of really helping families in the pocketbook. That's been her message for most of her career, and if she sticks with that and keeps communicating in a way that's clear and easy to understand I'd bet we see her rising to even more national prominence.

My favorite lecture.

And apparently Joe Kennedy III won a Senate seat last night as well, there's some name recognition right there.

Warren/Kennedy '16 anyone?

Its funny how these people talk about moving to different countries, but there is no other country they could move to.

Most of the countries that can offer the same comforts they are used to are the kind of country that Obama would want in terms of healthcare, welfare offered to poor people, gay marriage, women having rights to their own bodies...theyre also way less religious than America.

The only countries that would live up to their standards (religion forced on the country, no womens rights, being gay is illegal) are not Christian, and are usually crappy places to live because of the implications of religious rules.

They could go and find an island to live on and start their own country and watch it turn to crap in a generation...as long as none of the children were sent there to be abused without being caught.
