I did a placement at Family Planning (Australian version of planned parenthood) as a student nurse .  One of the nurses was a practicing witch.  Whenever someone bothered them or threatened them, the witch would say a spell and put the persons name in water and pop it in the freezer.  Freezing that persons actions.

There was the occasional 'just put them in the freezer' comment made every now and again in that office.  Those in on the joke, would just smile.

I volunteer as an Escort at a clinic in a city about 20 minutes away. ( an escort lol ) You would not believe the protesters. It is an exercise in true self control for me as we are not allowed to engage at all. I always wear large sunglasses so they don't know if I am looking at them or not. Assholes.

 There is a (self appointed) Preacher/Leader who has a large social media following and he gets them all stirred up. He's the Head Asshole.

Absolutely the least I can do. I got trained after Armageddon (11/9). I have 3 daughters. I am a (very liberal) christian, contrary to what the protestors claim (I am a daughter of Satan.... ) and I am very committed to keeping abortion a personal, safe choice. I don't have ANY patience for the hoards of white males trying to take it away. I had a crisis pregnancy as a teen and chose adoption, ironically.

@Pook,  Harvey is never seen in the film because he's invisible and about 6 1/2 feet tall.  He's Jimmy Stewart's BFF.  I'm sorry about your guinea pig.   We had a guinea pig ourselves about 15 or 20 years ago.  Our pigs are playing together at the Rainbow Bridge.

It's been 25 years but I used to do that. For two years, in fact. It was my first venture into 'serving others' and standing for what I believe in. I know how hard it can be. Kudos to you.

WOW. Ok send the rescue ferrets because I just read all 4 of these threads today and my brain is FRIED.   I can only hope this horrible event has caused Father Morton to rethink his direct line to God, though I doubt it. I am missing a key part of the story though - I missed the part where Katie got divorced? When was that found out and do we know the reasons cited?

I seriously have a headache from the sickening drama llama. My sympathies to all involved.

Adeline has an IG post praising Pa Morton for taking care of the children while some adults are sick. She captioned: "watching him restore in these babies hearts what the word father means, gets me all choked up and heart full". 

And that's great I guess. BUT.... I hope he also feels guilty. Lots of guilty.

No shit. His actions directly led to the situation. He raised his daughter to refrain from thought, opinion or any control over her life or the lives of the babies she makes for god. 

Even if, 11 years later, he has changed his ways, that doesn't remove his responsibility. 

Until the Mortons leave my brain I will never forget his self praise for her not being able to make a decision and watching her after the birth of her first kid and her total and complete removal from her own self and the world around her. If someone I knew behaved that way I'd take every step possible to get them the emotional help they very clearly need - the Smiths & Mortons praised it - they intentionally created it. 

Pappa Morton damn well better be taking responsibility for the lives of those babies.

Didn't someone say, that Addie is wearing pants now? If there is a photo, please share. Dorthy is the only Morton that I've seen wear pants.

She and Katie wear pants. I think I saw the mom wearing them too. As does Alyssa. The pics I've seen have all been on private accounts so I don't think there is a public picture to share.

Katie lists her self as divorced on Facebook. There haven't been any news updates on the case. As far as we know Alan remains incarcerated, awaiting trial for charges of rape, incest and child molestation. According to Facebook comments he remains unrepentant. The Smiths seem to be standing by Alan and appear to be cut off from Katie and the children. The Mortons (including the married Smith daughters) seem to be supporting Katie. There doesn't appear to be any contact between the two sides apart from some bickering on social media. I believe Katie and the kids are living on the Morton compound.

I know we've talked about how great Katie looks but I'm still thinking about it. Even if he was not charged with this, I imagine a divorce would have been good for Katie. It just seems like he didn't provide for his family although Katie seemed to have a kid everybody 15 months. Even if Katie is totally drunk on the koolaid, I imagine that was a hard life even for a good fundie like her. 

I know she probably had a horrible time when Alan was arrested and the aftermath but I imagine she is able to make a good life for her kids and herself. Her parents are obviously better workers and caretakers compared to her ex husband. And now she won't be constantly pregnant! And she probably has more freedom although she's supposed to be under her father's umbrella. I imagine that when your daughter gets married, is gone for almost a decade, and has 8 kids of her own, you aren't treating her like a SAHD. You just can't. I mother sure she still sees her father as her head, but it's not like before she left home. 

All in all, I hope she and other family members see her situation and rethink some of the ways they are raising their own children.

I'm so glad that she has family to help her, and it is SO disgusting that the Smiths are on ALAN's side! How deep in the patriarchal koolaid do you have to be to defend a rapist and child molester??

The Smiths seem to believe that Alan is innocent and will be fully absolved when this finally gets to trial. I'm not sure how much of that is patriarchy causing them to not believe the victim and how much is pure denial. At least one of the family members (IIRC grandma Scarlett) appears to have changed her views. At one point she told people that a go fund me for Katie was a scam, but she hasn't been cut off like the rest.

I wonder how much of that was simple computer illiteracy. Clicks on something with her granddaughter's name on it, sees that they want credit card info, and thinks "didn't I see a Dateline episode about this stuff? Better warn my friends."

It's possible, but unlikely. She intentionally sandwiched the "scam" message between a few posts about "false prophets" and some memes about how people aren't honest and loyal anymore. The original message was:

It seems to be an attempt to get people to ignore ("just delete") the message without reading it, rather than concern about personal security. The GFM page was pretty direct, and brutal. It featured a picture of a distraught-looking Katie holding her newborn son, surrounded by her other children, all of whom looked solemn. It may or may not have been intentional, but that picture seemed to capture a lot of raw emotion. The charges against Alan were listed underneath. The running theory is that she was in extreme denial for a while, but has possibly since accepted the situation. 

Jacqueline and the Crap'n, on the other hand, seem to be rabidly defensive of Alan. They seem to see themselves as victims, and whine a lot about not seeing the S'Morton grandchildren in a very long time. Jacqueline usually does it to garner sympathy from her friends and the Smith-loyal family members, and she usually gets it. It's pretty disgusting.
