Anyone else read farmhijabi(who never updates, but did today) and her rant "To America from a Disabled War Veteran"

From Tebow, bigots, being offended, founding fathers...The post has a bit of everything. Oh Michelle, I prefer your posts with cute babies and you in your Amish bonnets remodeling the milkhouse.

Yup, I just saw that on my blog reader, and I thought the same thing. :)

Would love to see how her 'craft barn' is coming along.

Could her argument get any less coherent if she tried?

My understanding of what happened with Mr Tebow is that many people don't like or they disagree with his actions, somewhat different than wanting to chuck him in prison or completely removing his freedom of speech. Loads of people disagree with me and everyone else on FJ, that is a natural consequence of saying anything more than "Lovely weather we're having." It is not persecution or oppression. Fundies seem to have a hard time getting this.

As for her opponents being keyboard warriors who spend all their time denouncing Christians (which would be really boring anyway) what about people who have been abortion clinic escorts in the name of equality and women's rights? Or who serve selflessly as paramedics or firefighters? Or who are military like Desertvixen and don't agree with her? People all over the globe are willing to stand up in defence of their causes. It's no' just you, Michelle, hen.

Oh yes! :P

Michelle is quite the angry blogger and she doesn't let matters of coherence get in the way of a good rant. Sadly she deletes posts (and whole blogs) on a regular basis, but she is fundie gold when at her best.

Strangely, I feel quite sympathetic towards her and would absolutely love to meet her IRL. It's the most endearing ranting I've ever heard.....

Ah! I put my wellies on and trudged through her blog ;)

Her kids are adorable and her house is very nice. She loses it when it comes to anything political or religious though!

I am not sure if this is racist (I hope not) but her use of Scots sets my teeth on edge a bit, in a "You're doing it wrong" way. It is like me trying to speak like an American. I know she's living up North but the way she puts stuff is clumsy.

You know, I also feel quite empathetic towards Michelle. I know she's had to deal with a lot of heartbreak in her life. She's hardly some spoiled, coddled fundie like some of the types we discuss here. And her children are adorable and life on the farm sounds quite charming, not to mention, quite a lot of work.

However, when she goes on a rant, she goes on a rant. And damn, if her rants aren't a hot damn mess. She really needs to improve her writing skills.

Also, it looks like Michelle has taken up yoga, which is very cool. But she might want to invest in a sticky mat. I don't think doing yoga on a quilt is the best way to go about a practice. Michelle could slip and hurt herself.

It's not that I find anything endearing in her words. And some of her behaviour is deplorable. I suppose I just feel for her because her blog is just about all she has influence over, and no one there really gives a damn at all.

She used to blog on the now-defunct BBC Island blogging, where the piss was mercilessly ripped out of her.

Now, that yoga mat was rather special, wasn't it. I would love to be in the village hall where she turns up and produces that to sit on!

If Focus on the Family can interrupt my football game with a sermon, then I should be allowed to interrupt their next sermon with a football game. Nbd, right? They can just "go get snacks".

I can't stand this "Christian Persecution" bull. Please. If ANY other religious group read from their sacred texts during an event such as a football game, there would be riots. But that is unthinkable, because no other religious group has the social privilege or prestige to even attempt it.

That being said, I vote for readings from the Kama Sutra during the Super Bowl!!!

I think she has only been in Scotland 5 or so years?(anyone?) It bothers me when she says things like "wee bairns" when I know she is American born and raised. I suppose you might pick up the local language, but Michelle doesn't mingle (everyone is against her in her mind) so other than her husband I don't know where it would come from.

It is kind of like Madonna with her ridiculous accent which grates on my nerves. I think she thinks she sounds all proper and English (or something?) when we all know she was born in Michigan. PLEASSSSSSSSSSE, your American Madonna. Your fake accent sounds stupid.

Yeah, she has been in Scotland 5 or so years. And she is quite isolated so I think the only place she really "speaks" Scots is on her blog.... :)

From what I've gleaned (on her Deviant Art site as well) she's not well liked in the neighborhood. She makes being Catholic a martyrdom. She also doesn't tell that her husband does a great part of the childcare since she's always laid up with her bad back and various ailments as well as running the farm. I commented that I took the same oath as she did but I also believe in what the Bible says about praying with regard to her Tebow rant:

‘And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

‘When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.

We'll see what happens.

This (tho I dunno about Madonna's accent, never heard her speak recently!)

If you are living in Scotland you will pick up Scots language but the way she uses it seems stilted or for show. It's really hard to explain. First of all she overuses "wee" in a way a Scot wouldn't and doesn't use it in a natural way. Secondly she uses "bairns" a bit wrongly to my ear (but that might be a Northern thing). Mostly when I talk about Small and Smaller Relative I would say "the wee ones" or "the weans". Old people and grannies say "bairns" ;) No one says "wee bairns" - of course bairns are wee!

Some Scots words look wrong without Scots language surrounding them. "Twa" is one of them. And if you are going to use Scots in a post, don't start it with "Gee!"

LOL, I sound ridiculously prescriptive ;) I am all for everyone adopting and mixing together languages. It's just that Michelle's way of using it sounded off to me. I hope this isn't offensive, I just found myself cocking my head to one side with her posts trying to imagine when someone would say that.

Oh, Michelle, your blog has become so BORING lately. Really, can't you just give in to the fact that all we want to see is your latest fashionable frock/mumuu/bonnet combination, and your Transformer drawings?

Ahhh...there's the Michelle I know and love.

Am I just completely making things up in my addled little brain, or was her Transformer Art somewhat along a fetish bent?

I just can't get over the fact she uses the term hijabi i her blog address but is not Muslim and doesn't wear a hijab. Its like me using the term habit-wearing woman in a blog if I ever thought anyone cared enough to read the boredom that is my existence.

She went through a hijabi phase a while back as part of her modesty crusade. It was fun to watch, photo wise, except that it also felt very sad because she was clearly covering herself out of a self-loathing towards her body. She had some Muslimah followers for a while until she went off on a (very predictable) rant about 9/11 and Muslim terrorists.....

I think it was a blog name she thought up quickly when she killed off "A walled garden" and changed "Coffee Catholic" over to an Orkney religion blog, in order to try to throw off the quite large following of critics she had built up around that time. She is having a new blog built for her right now so I guess 'hijabi' will disappear from the name then.

Scots is a cool language though. If I am ever in Scotland for five minutes I will be giving it a clumsy try! I can't blame her for that one.

The thing about her that drives me the most batty is how much frickin' money she seems to waste.

"Look, I just bought classy heels! I don't have any clue how to walk in heels, but I'm going to learn!"

"We bought 50lb bags of staples for our pantry! I'm not sure what to do with them, but I'm going to learn!"

How much of that stuff goes to waste-anyone want to take a guess?

Does she always dress like that?

Oh yes! She's a real weird one is Michelle. Apparently she has had all sorts of jobs; been in the military, was a firefighter in Alaska, and quite a few other things, all apparently before she hit 30. Make of that what you will.... She's also madly into transformers and does fan art and fanfiction - not your typical fundie! Apparently she met her hubby in some chat room/forum online - he's a fair bit older than her (nothing wrong with that of course) and I get the feeling that he just lets her get on with things. She hardly ever mentions him on her blog, other than the fact that they own the farm.

She seems to have heavily gone down the modesty route, at one point she wore hijab (hence the blog name) but was never a Muslim. Actually it seems that Islam is a dirty word for her... sigh...

Then of course there is her endless projects. She is always taking up new projects and buys a shite load of stuff for them. She bought this humongous contraption of a pushchair last year for the children. Ordered it from the USA, it's a HUGE 3 child pram which she never seems to take anywhere, probably because it is too big and difficult to handle.
