Inconsistency in J-Fetus' Due Date?

I've known a few women who didn't find out the gender when they expected to at 20ish weeks because the baby wouldn't cooperate with showing their parts ( cord in the way, wrong direction, legs crossed, hand in front etc ..) most of them just waited until their next scheduled appointment a month later to find out - although a couple pushed for another ultrasound right away because they just HAD to know.

A co-worker found out the gender of her baby at a 15 or 16 week ultrasound .. apparently it is easier to tell if it is a boy than a girl earlier on.

Well, didn't crazy Janis find out at, like, 20 minutes gestation?

They said may on the today show, but since it'S a planned C-sec, maybe she's scheduled to deliver in late april while she's due early may?

Oh crazy Janis, my favorite fundie/religion-of-the-month follower. Didn't she think she was having twins this time?

Especially with her previous issues? they'll probably grab the kid as soon as the lungs are good ! Honestly, if I were her doctor, that's what I'd do!

I was due on April 20, and all the ladies who were in my birth group found out the gender weeks ago. (And yes, I do feel a bit bitter that I miscarried while Michelle is on #20. )

Bite your tongue

You could argue that she is overdue for another set of twins; she had six births between the first and second sets, and has now had eight births since the second set. Yikes...

If it is twins, though, when the announcement is made it will be extremely obvious that they haven't been 100% honest and forthcoming, since that is something you find out very early in the pregnancy, thanks to heartbeat monitors.

Never fear we'll probably have another 'great reveal' on Today. What this time? Pepperoni on a pizza for a girl, anchovies [Look here mama--fish on a pizza! huh..] for a boy??

It's unlikely they DON'T want publicity for the birth since we were nearly told of the conception........... I'm "concerned" that Anna isn't scheduling a new announcement.....slacker! How dare she "space" her children!

I'm sure they are hoping for a girl so they can have a nice even split, which JB can probably turn into some PR catchphrase. So I hope it's a boy just to piss them off.

So, who wants to bet on how they'll do the announcement of the baby's sex? For Michael it was sky-writing, I forget what it was for Josie and Mackynzie. It seems like it always has to be something "creative".

Mack got the cake on the Today Show.

And IIRC, Michael was a little "shy" the first time they tried to check, so they had to wait a couple of weeks or whatever to get that skydiver up in the air. I wonder if TLC had to compensate for a canceled appointment when Michael didn't cooperate the first time?

Ditto.

She's due to have an intersexed child any birth now. God help that child...

One of the fundie blogs just had an ultrasound photo that indicated a boy but the baby was a girl. The family was happy because they had 8 or 9 boys already. I don't remember whose blog.

A co-worker was told a girl and had a boy.

An amniocentesis is 100% accurate, an ultrasound 95%.

Ultrasound 95% accurate? I don't buy that. My 1st they couldn't tell due to undescended testicles (had 2 ultrasounds), my 2nd they said 70% chance girl (he was a boy), and my 3rd they got right. I guess technically that could mean 2 were right and one wrong but that's still not anywhere near 95%. + there's always a 50% chance of being right or wrong just by guessing.

I agree w/others that the delay is really all about TV ratings  There is no way they could hide a premie birth.

Giving this far more thought than it deserves (meaning any at all), I think we'll be able to verify the jender by what kind of Very Special Announcement they have on the Today Show. A girl would be big news and I am absolutely positive that Boob and Mullet would fly to NYC with the kids (who supposedly wouldn't know...riiiiight, everybody knows everything in that house). However, if it's a boy? Remote from the compound. And internal pressure for Mullet to push out two more girls before she hits menopause.

What makes you think this? They haven't had a boy in 7 years so that would be much bigger I'd think.

I don't doubt Boob wants 10 girls and 10 boys very badly. Should they be disappointed with a male J20, his obsessive need for even numbers could make them to shoot for twin girls next time for 22, 11 and 11. But 11 is not an even number, and he may even have seen Spinal Tap in his youth.

My husband's cousin and his wife are due April 29th so she's around 18 weeks along, and they just found out the baby's sex today. If J'chelle is due in late April realistically right around now would be the earliest they can accurately tell. It depends on the baby cooperating and showing the goods, along with the skill and experience of the ultrasound tech or doctor doing the scan.

I had an ultrasound by both a tech and the MFM specialist at 16w1d right before my amniocentesis, and both of them immediately said that they could tell us the sex if we wanted to know. We chose not to find out until delivery but they could determine it with a high degree of confidence at that point (and they were right).

My doctor's standard is three ultrasounds - one at the first prenatal visit for dating/viability, one at 18-20 weeks which is the anatomy scan, and then a quick one around 34-36 weeks to confirm positioning. Obviously if the patient wants to have first trimester genetic screening and if there are complications or potential problems then there are a lot more ultrasounds that can be done. They can tell the sex reliably at any ultrasound after ~20 weeks. Most couples today do find out the baby's sex during the pregnancy. My OB and his staff had a lot of fun keeping the secret from us, and Mr. Bug and I plan to have all of our kids be a delivery surprise.

Are Jim Bob and some of other kids going to El Salvador? They usually go around this time right? Maybe that is why they are delaying finding out till closer to Christmas.

I have no idea what the Boob + Mrs. are up to. However I do not usually look for gender until the anatomic survey which is usually done 18 - 24 weeks. I do not generally include the sex in my report unless the patient/her doctor request it or if there is a medical issue that involves gender. At the 11 - 14 week ultrasound I do not check the gender unless there is a specific concern about a gender related medical condition. Generally if a woman has multiple obstetric ultrasounds it is look follow a specific medical concern and I generally focus all my attention on issue that is the obstetrician's concern rather than gender. So all in all I am not that surprised the Duggars would find out the sex at about the 5 month point.

Considering all the potential issues with another J'Michelle pregancy I would like to think finding out the sex would be the last thing on their minds. Oy. I'd be more worried about surviving the process if I were her...

My sister is due April 24th and found out about the gender ages ago.

One thing: I NEVER got how people can get so excited about the gender reveal. I mean, there's only so many possibilities, right?? Why are they so excited about it??

Does being excited about one jender (I think this should become our new standard spelling!) mean you wouldn't have been excited about the other?
