Steve has a problem period. Many problems about many many many many things. Actually I'd say he has a problem about everything.

Except ........ He's right about salvation. Jesus loves him the best because Steve's right about salvation.  All the rest of us are going straight to hell because we're wrong and Stevehovah is right ....... About salvation.

He may be shocked at where he ends up.  My pet peeve.  Get ready for a rant...  People like him disgust me.  They spend so much time doing everything but what they're supposed to be doing.  Read the bible, criticize everything, read the bible again, and again, and again, see how much you can memorize, spend your day quoting it...  They are so bible obsessed, that they don't implement the words of the One that they claim to worship.  Protest abortion, but step over the homeless man sleeping on the ground.  Preach at a nursing home, but don't go during the week and visit the bedridden whose family left them to rot.  Make cookies for your neighbors, make cookies for the cops, but stay far away from the poorest part of the city, and whatever you do, don't make sure the people there have enough to eat.  It's too dangerous to go over there.   Keep voting for republicans and pushing for satan's spawn (Trump) to get re-elected.  Republicans who have no concept of good healthcare, affordable housing, affordable medication, help for single mothers, help for the poor, the homeless, the sick, the elderly.  All things that Jesus told people to do.  This country has gone to hell, but not for the reasons Steve Maxwell thinks.  It has gone to hell because of people like him.  He is one of the problems with this country.  Rant over.  I get pissy every January and don't come out of it until February.  Every winter it is the most pathetic thing on earth to see people living outside in the bitter cold.  While Steve Maxwell cries over a woman in a low cut shirt, I burst out crying when I see a homeless person curled up on the ground in the dead of the winter.

Steve is running out of content to write about. This weeks Seriously was 3 paragraphs, and one was mainly a Bible verse.

I'd like to ask him why he references the blood that was shed instead of celebrating the resurrection and new life that Christ espouses. It seems that most fundies always reference the death on the cross rather than the resurrection. Yes he died, went to hell, but he overcame it and that is what saved us. Drives me nuts. Many of my relatives preach this at me and at my age, my eyes can't roll back much further.

It's so short. And honestly he seems to miss the mark.

Spoiler

There are some Bible truths that are so simply stated they would seem very easy to implement. For example, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Colossians 3:17).

Another way of putting it would be. As a child of God, bought and paid for by the blood of my Lord Jesus, I should only do or say what my owner, whom I’m representing, would say or do. All the while giving thanks to the Father.

Can anyone truly live that way while in the flesh. No. But is that the desire of our hearts? What to be a dynamic, on-fire for Christ, steadfast follower not compromising but glorifying Him. Make that our daily prayer and goal.

I am not religious, but I would read that (along with other bible-y things in context) and think that it's not so simple or easy to implement.  If, according to Christian Bible of Paul, we need to do all things in the name of Jesus and give thanks to the creator and sacrifice, then it stands to reason that we should be USING THE GIFTS WE HAVE. As such, someone who excels at photography should be out doing things like taking photos.  Someone who is good at guitar should develop that talent and create music.  A person who excels at running should be out there, working hard and praising the creator that they were given that gift. We were "given" (according to this religion) the ability to create, think, educate ourselves, thrive, etc. We became doctors to save lives, leaders to govern and build societies that support each other. Hiding away and doing nothing buy bible time is the opposite of what Jesus was said to have said. It's not what Paul is saying here, either.

Steve writes:
We don’t understand how a person could live in garbage, yet how many professing Christians do exactly that – spiritual and moral garbage that is. The internet and TV will stream filth right to your ears and eyeballs – all one could lust for and more. It might be moral filth, or Disney witchcraft, or the sensuality du jour.
Please, please, don’t accept things the average church-going Christian embraces these days. Whether physical or spiritual hoarding, you don’t have to do anything. Garbage just happens.  Holiness takes effort and vigilance.

He starts off talking about a woman who he supposed lived in a hoarding condition. Of course this is a supposition bolstered by the fact there is now a dumpster in the driveway and the yard is overgrown. He stopped and talked to her once about her yard and she said her children were going to come and help. But they never did. I would think that after a month he could have gone back with his male grandsons and mowed the yard and tidy it up but no!!!!

What has Disney ever done to Steve? What does he consider the "Sensuality du Jour"?  I am so glad the girls got out from under his thumb. Sitting around with your Bibles on your lap listening to Dad drone on and on. Ewwwww.

He's got burr under his saddle this week, he must have found out that someone's got Disney Channel on cable and were watching Percy Jackson and the Olympians (which was a really good adaption of the 1st book).

He can’t even be glad there are “average church-going Christians” out there ( whatever that means).  No, he’s got to rag on these Christians for watching and doing things he himself does not do.

He must be such a joy to have at  church.  🙄

I can only imagine how the pastor and church members were thinking when he and the family showed up.   Honestly they must have came off as extremely odd at the least even to what looks to be a fairly conservative church.

Steve is a party pooper. He was sitting in his recliner staring at Terri Sunday night and grumbling about those people at the Super Bowl who aren't waiting for the Rapture every single minute.

Quote

What is something you look forward to and gladly exchange your precious time for, and if it didn’t happen, you would be MOST disappointed? For many Christians, an example of that occurred on Sunday evening, and I’m not referring to church. I can picture that if the rapture had happened during the big game, many would have exclaimed, “OH NO. Not right now. It isn’t over!” “But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them” (Psalms 106:35-36).

Kind of like when my blind dog busted out of the back yard during game 7 of the World Series in 2010- and my team, the Giants, won for the first time since 1954- Sorta like that, Steve!

Jesus made everybody wait over 2000 years for the 2nd coming. He can wait 1 overtime period so we can see who wins the Super Bowl, can’t he??

Actually……there is a show on Disney that would get Steve in a hoot……anyone watched What We Do In The Shadows? Not witchcraft…..just vampires. It’s awesome.

All the Super Bowl comments made me think of it, because there’s an episode where the vampires get confused - they’re invited by their neighbours to watch the Super Bowl and misread it and think they’re going to see the famous Superb Owl……

Its the kind of show I like to imagine sarah and Mary laughing at while eating popcorn….

That show is hysterical but I canʻt see Steve laughing at it.

Although, come to think of it, Steve reminds me of Colin Robinson, the Energy Vampire.

My understanding of the rapture is that it's an "in the twinkling of an eye" event so, no, there wouldn't be time to look around and be like "Oh man, can't we do this later?" And I don't think anybody is going to be milling around in heaven going "So did the 49ers win or not?"

Sounds like some of his adult children held and/or went to a Super Bowl party.

I hope that’s true. If they did I’m really happy for them.

As best I can tell, Steve's philosopy of life is " (My interpretation of) God's rules make me miserable, so everyone else better be miserable too." Like, Steve, dude. Do you really want to spend all eternity worshipping a deity that made your life drudgery? Why?

Like I seriously wonder if he reads about God's love and Jesus being happy and people being "lifted up" in Christ and all that, and thinks "Wow, my experience with God is the opposite of that. So they must be doing religion wrong!"

And now he sees his daughters apparently enjoying church and being happy, and is all grumpy because he raised them to do religion right (and be as miserable as possible) but now they're enjoying their lives. Is he worried they'll lose their salvation and go to hell? Or is he worried that God really is loving and forgiving and they really are saved, and they'll get to go to heaven anyway without all the unhappiness first?

I agree with everything you said!  Jesus lover here.  I also have a potty mouth, hot temper, am a Trump hating democrat, light smoker, doesn't drink, loves the beach, shopping, clothes, jewelry, music, movies, and THE CASINO!  Jesus is the first one I thank every time I hit a jackpot on the slots.  I'm fun loving.  BUT...  On the other side, I will not look down on you if you dress in shabby clothes, if you have an addiction, if you're a sex worker, if you're homeless and need money...  And I'll probably burst out crying if I see you sleeping under a bridge in the dead of the winter.  Still depressed over the homeless situation in this country.  Happens every year when it's freezing out.  I will come out of it soon.  Anywho...  God cares about the heart.  Who is He more pleased with?  Me or people like Steve Maxwell?  I am confident it is me.  100% confident of that.  Doesn't love them any less.  But that doesn't mean He is as pleased with them as He is with others.  It's all about the heart.

I always ask people like Steve who Christ hung out with while on earth. Who did he talk to/associate with? Hint: it wasn't the holier-than-thou Pharasees. He ate with tax collectors, prostitutes, those with incurable disease, and everyone else that society looked down on. He talked to the Samaritans and women, which in those days wasn't done.

And he showed his love through actions, not just words.
