(CW: Possible CSA) Josh & Anna 37: Saving the Cocktail Dresses for Court

It's typical for the images to be shown in the courtroom, because the defendant and his/her lawyers have a right to view evidence being shown to the jury.

why of all people would derick be there ? if his wife is not testifying today?

He did go to law school. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went so he can tell his wife what’s gone on in court.

Wait and he is in the family section? Wouldn't he be sitting on the opposite side, or am I wrong in how a courtroom is set up?

Maybe he wants to watch Josh go down!  Also, he is or will be a lawyer once he passes the bar.  I bet he is there the whole trial.  I just wonder why he is sitting in the family section.

Derrick is obviously not counted as family

"Josh was polite and in high spirits and laughed and joked with the court clerk, according to the Sun reporter.

No other family came to support Josh."

Any sign of all these Duggar  supporters taking up the seats to supposedly stop reporters getting in?

The Sun (take it with a grain of salt) has something of a live blog of the trial:

https://www.the-sun.com/entertainment/4174486/josh-duggar-trial-live-updates-child-pornography-arrest-verdict/

Defense is saying Josh is too ignorant to know how to partition the drive.

So his defense is that he’s too dumb? I wonder what Josh thinks about that?

Everyone is different, but if I were Jill I'd want him there.  I'd want someone who has my back to be there in person for the horrific details who would be able to prepare me for the truth in a gentle way.

Derick also understands more of the court stuff since he went to law school. I don’t understand some of that stuff. I would want someone knowledgeable to let me know what’s going on.

Because he's interested in seeing revenge for the victims of his past crimes and Jill can't be there herself because she's on the witness list?  Just a guess, but he's not there to support the perp for sure.

So do that have seats reserved for family even if they aren't there?  And why would they do this anyway?  It's not a wedding.  Aside from maybe a reserved seat for a defendant's spouse (and maybe parents) that should be first come first serve.

I am learning that some places have family sections for witnesses, but it probably varies from district to district, courtroom to courtroom, etc.

Wonder what Jim Bobs thinking when the defenses case is based on Josh being a Mac Guy and Homeschooled by Michelle. Which is a round about way of saying he’s too dumb to partition a computer hard drive or read/watch a video to learn how

Unfortunately boob probably feels fine about it. That’s exactly the type of worldly learning they intended to shelter the kids from.

Maybe he just wants to cause a kerfluffle with those supporting Josh. I'd be petty enough, and Derrick is pretty petty. I can imagine it...rolling up to such a case and sitting down happily in a group of people you've severed ties with and whipping out a notepad. Just the petty energy of it could be compelling.

I can see that.  It's also Derek so a collateral benefit is maybe getting to network with lawyers (been away for a while so Idk if he's got a job in law yet) and maybe wants to be there for the reporters.

It will be interesting if he makes a statement to the press of some kind.

Thanks to all of you guys for bringing the info and being here.  I've been away from FJ for a while since I really struggle with this topic and needed some space from it mentally, but I need to be back for this.  Seeing the judge dismiss JB's testimony and basically called him a liar restored a bit of my faith in humanity.

I haven't scrolled back much yet, but good for Bobye Holt for telling the truth and thank God past acts are coming in.  My heart hurts for Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy as this has to be so hard on all of them.  For all the well deserved mockery they get about other parts of their lives, when it comes to this they are all stronger by orders of magnitude than JB or Josh can even imagine.  They had to be.

Are we sure it is Derrick? I can see a reporter thinking it’s him because they see a tall, young guy with brown hair. Or someone told someone else it was him.

That's "Judgese" for "Mr. Duggar is a lying sack of shit and I wouldn't believe him if he told me the sky was blue". Like, no shit dude!

Federal judges have their own political affiliations and biases, and they are frequently pompous windbags. However, they are also extremely smart, can read a witness in a heartbeat, and won’t take shit from anybody. I’m not surprised this judge had Jim Bob’s number. .

ITA I can see him attending so he can witness first hand how the trial is going and give a summary to Jill.  If Jill is going to end up testifying, good idea to know how it's going but at the same save her energies for the time she might need to appear, so Derick can go in her stead.  And since he's graduated law school he can approach it from a legal standpoint, something to convey to Jill as well.

And maybe, just maybe this is a post-law school legal study he can get courtesy of his very own brother-in-law.  Who knows, it might help him on his bar exam assuming he hasn't taken it yet.

I wouldn't know how to partition a computer hard drive and I'm far from homeschooled. That's not something I want to do or have ever thought about doing. Not one of my teachers ever mentioned that. I think most people wouldn't know how to do that.

I agree the Duggars failed their kids with terrible homeschooling, but this is something only a handful of people would know.

Yea but you can Google an enumerated list on how to do it. The defense of "he only had a GED and was poorly homeschooled and thus is too stupid to do this" does not imply that "he is incapable of learning how to do a new task at all." It's kind of a bananas defense.

It's also really not that hard. If you can operate and do some basic maintenance on your computer, you can partition it. The "complicated"-ness of code is also nonsensical; it's relatively easy to beg/borrow/steal a command line or a piece of code. So many people patchwork code from other people's code made available so it's a pretty bad defense.

FWIW, Justin of the "I Pray You Put This Journal Away" posted on the Reddit yesterday that he did, in fact, contact the Government but they didn't need any testimony from him. I think he mentions on the podcast (I confess, I haven't listened to it all because I'm spoiled by high production quality casts) that Josh did know how to do this.

I don’t think of it as petty at all.

I think his presence reminds the pedophile that there are those who KNOW the truth and will no longer be silenced. Truth is not petty.

By sitting in the family zone he reminds Josh that not everyone in the family supports him.

I would think Josh's "I'm a stupid homeschooled Mac user" defense could be easily squashed by the prosecution showing early episodes of 19 Kids and Counting where Josh was hyped up as the computer expert and even had his own little computer room off the boys bedroom, if I recall. Also, he used to design websites. I believe even the Bates had him design their first website long ago.
