I'm betting it had more to do with it is impossible to safely watch 10+ kids at a pool, even a private pool, than costs.  I wouldn't say I can swim, I know how to not drown in the pool, I can tread water, dog paddle, and  float on my back, there is no way I could teach my kids I wouldn't know where to begin.

This is probably my Floridian showing but my family starts teaching kids to swim under a year old. I helped my mom each my younger sibs (8 and 10 years younger than me) in a pool at a hotel (while my dad and other family members were cleaning up after Hurricane Andrew).

My husband and I taught my niblings (one at a time) at the ymca pool on free days.

Would it be hard to find time to teach 19 kids? Absolutely. However JB and Jichelle figured out how to take several outings with just the two of them. If they cared, they would have been able to figure out how to at least teach the kids how to doggy paddle and tread water especially since they particpate in some water/boating activities and have an aversion to safety devices.

It probably has less to do with time and more to do with fundie restrictions on "mixed bathing." We maybe got to get in a pool once a year at camp. You can't go anywhere that you might see the opposite sex in a bathing suit so community pool/ beaches aren't an option. Unless you had your own pool or a close friend with no brothers or the brothers were away, you just never had the opportunity to learn.

I learned before we got involved in IFB, but I doubt I could do much more than dog paddle now. I'm more a hot tub kind of gal.

I know Wartburg Watch frequently posts on John Piper and John Macarthur. I 100% am in favor of starting a thread on John Macarthur.

Define “following”. I think there’s no thread because outside of Jeremy attending masters there’s really not much linking him with the Duggar’s/other families discussed here. He’s toxic but he’s a dime a dozen in the evangelical world.

What’s going on? I know he keeps meeting and his seminary is on probation but is there more? I was a big fan of his until I attended an offshoot of his church. It didn’t take me long to realize he’s essentially IFB.

He's fighting with his state/county about keeping his church open during Coronavirus. He keeps holding services during the pandemic where people aren't social distancing or wearing masks.

I had some real reservations about joining FreeJinger. It's why I lurked for so long. The site seems designed to go after fundie housewives even though they're a dime dozen and leave the men who are in power and lead a lot of these movements alone. It's even called the Christian Patriarchy for a reason, guys!

Valid point. I personally don’t have any interest because some of my family follows his work and I actively try to forget his existence.

Dying laughing. Don't tell an IFB'er that. MacArthur's a liberal in their eyes.

I’d be happy to discuss him (maybe in this thread since he is associated with Jeremy?) since I’m following. I’ve never started a thread or anything though I usually go with the flow on here conversation wise.

It seems to me that the discussion on John MacArthur, Jr./Grace Community/Vuolos/fundamentalism works well here in the Vuolo thread. This turn towards a civil disobedience stance by MacArthur and the church has implications for all involved, and it will continue to cross into this thread.

Well, the guys mostly are showing info about their ministries. The women generally show their lives and are more publicly available.

Anyone notice jeremy’s framed periodic table behind him during interviews on the most recent episode? Oh, Jeremy. I honestly don’t think he could possibly try any harder. We get it. You own books. You wear bow ties. You need an “office.”

Who frames the periodic table?? It’s even more ironic given that he is part of a cult and a political movement that are blatantly anti-science.

@Johannah I do actually know someone with a framed periodic table - but he is an eminent academic and it looks in keeping with his office at his home.

Jeremy totally believes he is an intellectual and compared to most of the Duggars he probably is. I wonder when they’ll make the break from the show- it doesn’t fit in with the image they want to portray.

I don’t think he likes the show, but it pays some of their bills until he can get a shot at America’s Next Top Preacher.

Jeremy acts like a teenager. I had a periodic table on my wall when I was a teen, and I felt oh so clever.

I don't have one now, even though it's relevant to my line of work. If I need the table, I'll google it.

I thought the periodic table looked really dumb too, but are Jeremy and Jinger in their own place yet? I thought they were still in that furnished church house cause of covid? Unless I am super behind (v. likely tbh.)

I’m sure if they’d moved they have wrung at least a YouTube video and podcast out of it- not to mention the obligatory Jana refurb.

The property they are in is lovely and probably beyond their means if they had to pay market rates ( well they could probably afford it but they’d have to cut back on coffee, clothes, hair appointments and bow tie/hair bow collections.)

Being Duggar raised I have no doubt Jinger is exploiting the twin effects of Covid and pregnancy to make sure they stay there as long as possible until a better offer comes up.

Without the show $, I doubt they could support themselves in CA; particularly at the level in which they are both accustomed. Do either of them have any marketable skills or relevant work history? I suppose Jing could home a daycare.

I got a fancy gold foiled periodic table for my daughter just a few months ago. But she's 20, and in her 3rd yr of Uni & planning/prepping to go to Dental school so lots and lots of science.

I don’t think they see careers for themselves beyond being celebrities so it will be guest preacher slots, podcasts and Instagram product selling for them.

I can see a marriage/parental guidance book in the not too distant future.

Jinger likes photography- if she did a course on commercial photography I dare say there’s enough hangers on who’d book her for the endless rounds of engagement, wedding, pregnancy announcement, sex reveal, baby photo shoots that happen. However neither of these two seem keen on actual work.

I actually think Jeremy wants to be a Joel Ostene but lacks Some thing to make it there. Like he thinks he should already have that just because he married Jinger

I actually can't believe how fast her pregnancy has gone. Maybe it's because she's not posting her updates and reminding us he is with child every five minutes this time.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.

It’s not supposed to be mosquito season right now but I still appear to have been bitten twice on the side of my foot. Bastards. I know I shouldn’t scratch but it’s so tempting… 😑
