The only fertility treatment that I thought fundies strictly opposed was IVF. Even conservative Christians like the McCougheys of septulet fame  used IVF I believe. They just didn't use selective reduction of implanted embryos because that would be abortion and thus "murder".

More likely they did IUI with Clomid or injectable’s which is why so many eggs fertilized. With IVF an RE wouldn’t transfer so many embryos and they wouldn’t have ended up with such a high order multiple pregnancy.

Wedding shower and bachelorette party for Hannah took place last weekend.

Like Alyssa (Lori's daughter), Rachel claims that nutrition healed her infertility. I find it difficult to believe it, considering how healthy Rachel ate before.

Plus it’s easier to be against IVF because it’s way more expensive than IUI. How convenient!

Her sister in law Kori Wissmann says plexus cured her infertility.

I dealt with infertility with my first but was able to get pregnant on my own with my second. I changed no food or supplements or anything.

The fertility clinic I went to had an on-site nutritionist who met with everyone before they did IUI or IVF. It’s because of her that I buy certain fruits organic (when I can), choose glass over plastic for food storage (also when I can), and eat steamed rolled oats for breakfast a couple times a week.

It was the healthiest year of my life, but I was also 25 so had that going for me.

He is older than her. But when they got married, I think he was in his lower 40s. And she was in her 30s. I think he may now be close to 50. He’s a farmer so he may have gotten a ton of sun without sunscreen in his life. That will wrinkle you a lot.

Allen was 39 when they got married.  I believe Rachel was 30.   I think you are right about the sun exposure.  He is 51 now and she just turned 40.  I think she looks young for her age and he looks like a typical 50 year old farmer, although he has stayed slim and trim..... many seem to gain a belly as time goes by.  Lots of farmers in my life, so that's my view.

Okay, that makes sense. I thought she was maybe mid-20s!

She’s probably one of the prettiest Wissmann daughters and she really does look young for her age. She’s similar in age to me and I think she looks much younger than me.

As far as I know, the octomom is the only mega multiple mom whose pregnancy resulted from IVF. There is a reason why her doctor lost his license. Even back when IVF first started, the guidance would not allow transfer of more than 3 embryos. And even then, they usually only transferred 3 embryos with an older mom. I do know someone who transferred two embryos and one split, so she ended up with triplets.

The vast majority of mega multiple pregnancies are from poorly monitored ovarian stimulation. The outdaughtered family and sweet home sextuplets family both got pregnant with multiples from clomid/letrozole. A lot of obgyns will give that stuff out and then not even have you come back in to get an ultrasound to find out how many follicles are growing. So you could over respond and end up having a bunch of follicles develop and release eggs without you knowing. Sometimes that ends with one baby, sometimes it ends in sextuplets.

The McCaughey septuplets were from a drug the next step up with follicle stimulating hormone. That's an injectable medication and requires you to use a trigger shot to initiate ovulation. If you are being monitored appropriately, they should do an ultrasound to see how many follicles you have before you trigger. If you have too many follicles, they would advise you to abstain from intercourse and cancel any plans for IUI.

It's a super common misconception that IVF is the main driver of fertility treatment associated multiples.

Yes to all of this. I did IUI and thankfully I didn’t have a crazy amount of follicles and I ended up with only one baby. I really didn’t want twins. I know a woman who did have three embryos transferred but she was 46 I think almost 47 at the time. And the doctor was shocked she ended up with twins. He thought her chances were pretty low to even have one baby out of 3 embryos.

I have to admit that I was somewhat touched by Rachel's responses to infertility and pregnancy loss. She comes a cross like a very sweet person and I kind of 'like' her. But then I remember all the Trump worshipping and so on and get mad.

I know what you mean - she comes across as basically a nice and kind-hearted person, but she is literally drowning in the kool-aid, both YL and fundie style. A lot of what she posts seems perfectly lovely and relatable, but whenever it's about religion or politics, I am reminded that she and I really have nothing whatsoever in common. Sigh.

I know one person who fell pregnant with quadruplets (had a selective reduction and birthed twins) and one who had triplets. The quads were basically a fertility treatment cock up, she was going through an IVF stim cycle, got ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome, they did egg pickup and took I think 11 eggs? But never ended up transferring any embryos because the specialist failed to tell her that some of the less mature follicles could still release eggs and to abstain from sex for however many days after egg pickup. The triplets were conceived without any fertility treatments at all, she had one naturally conceived daughter and they went for baby #2 and she just happened to release 3 eggs that month. Shock of their lives.

Kate Gosselin underwent IVF with both of her pregnancies.  I think there are a few others. A few years ago I read about a couple that did IVF and had quintuplets.

Kate gosselin did not do ivf. She used clomid.

ETA I’m pretty sure they did IUI with the twins in addition to clomid, not sure about IUI or just timed intercourse with the sextuplets.

Jon and Kate did IUI with fertility drugs and they said they saw 4 mature follicles the month they got pregnant. Honestly if I had seen 4, I probably would have scrapped that month. But they went ahead and ended up with not four, but 6.

I really want to be inside their heads at the wedding. They'll keep sweet/avoid each other, but there have to be feelings underneath that they'll never admit.

Back in the late 90s and early 2000’s anything greater than a  twin pregnancy was considered a failure in the IVF world. As a result, twins and triplets were very, very common in the Nicu. Quads far were more rare. I swear to Bob, just about every baby had a twin.

It is a bit nutty in her case but there are legit ways to help your fertility that probably aren't what her whackadoodle diet did. My sister is dealing with PCOS and the first recommendation they gave her involved diet changes alongside medication.

Sure! Diet is a real help for many diseases, but Rachel also claims that  essencial oils+diet that cure almost everything (like her daughter supposed ADHD), so I take her posts with a grain of salt.
