I don’t exactly remember it like that. The person posting related it to a similar situation that she was close to personally and she thought that young woman was equally responsible for her relationship with an older man. I don’t recall that she was claiming that this particular person involved with Caleb Williams was manipulating him. I don’t remember Caleb being defended by the poster.

I disagree. I know many 14-year-olds who have been fingered by older guys. 

MY unpopular opinion:  this girl was "all in" for the relationship for a couple of years, got dumped, never got over him (may still love him - and Im not putting love in quotes because to a 14/15/16-year-old, it really is love), but due to the #metoo movement may have developed a different perspective.

My ex BIL met his wife when she was 15, he was 22. She was dog sitting for us when he happened to drop by, not realizing we weren't back yet. They hit it off and very shortly after she got pregnant. She knew EXACTLY what she was doing. Her parents knew they were having sex and didn't care. UNTIL she got pregnant. Then suddenly the threat was made he better marry her or they were pressing charges for rape. Her parents had no hesitation signing the papers allowing her to get married under 18 because it meant they didn't have to deal with her anymore. The whole thing was VERY WRONG. That said, they've been together almost 18 years.  Now this isn't most situations but things aren't always as cut and dry as they seem.

That thread was garbage. No matter how many times people explained that legally a child cannot consent to sex, that poster (and a couple others IIRC) would not stop. These beliefs and the blame still heaped on young women and girls is why we still have legal child marriage in this country. And fundamentalist Christianity that the Duggars champion is a huge culprit.

Caleb Williams was charged, right? Has he not been tried yet or did he already serve time or not get time? I wasn't aware any non-Duggars worked at the car lot. How do we know who is employed there?

You have to remember they are also big believers in the 'forgiveness' theory, where if somebody apologizes and you forgive them, it's like it never happened and they move forward. So if Caleb Williams has 'apologized' and the Duggars have 'forgiven' him, then they proceed as if the whole thing never happened.

Some of their justifications were just horrendous too.

”I was having sex with older men when I was a young teenager and I knew exactly what I was doing!”

”My cousin/neighbour/mailman’s girlfriend’s stepson was FORCED to marry a teenage girl in his 20s when SHE seduced HIM and got herself pregnant!!”

Fucking yikes. That thread was a great reminder that many seemingly normal people harbour seriously sick beliefs.

 @JDuggs - I seem to have fallen for “if someone posts it, then it must be true.” I did a quick search to see if I could find (non-fj) evidence that Caleb works at the lot and can’t find it. So my anger towards the Duggars (in this instance) appears misplaced.

In her recent Instagram post, Anna shares photos of her and Josh’s trip to Silver Dollar City. I don’t doubt for a second that the three photos of the sex pest were included for the sole purpose of showing he’s not in jail but hanging out with Jana, Jim Bob, her and the kids.

Growing up,  I had a best friend who was gorgeous. She always had "boyfriends" from the time she was in 5th grade (all innocent and age appropriate. When she was 13 she started going out with a guy who was 18. His father was our chief of police and he was mortified her parents would do something. He used to park his cruiser outside of her house when the guy was over. She was (and still is) a real good person and nothing untowards besides some kissing ever happened. It didn't last long and she met the future father of her children and her husband right after that. He was only two years older than her. 

Oddly enough the 18 year old guy had an eye for the young ones. He was a bit of an odd duck. Nice looking but weird. He wasn't slow, just odd. He used to hang out at the roller rink and chat up young girls. They thought it was so impressive that a high school senior wanted to talk to them. Years later, after my divorce, I was chatting online and met someone who grew up in the same town I did. It ended up being him! When I found out who he was, I ended the conversation especially since he wanted to meet me and he told me he was still married but liked to fool around! good bye!

Count me too as having no sympathy for Anna.  She actually had a way out.  Her brother offered to help her.  Most women in her position don't have that.

But did she have a way out psychologically? The hold these cults have on their members, especially when generations of family are within, can be incredible.  

Frankly, the only ones I think who get out are those who are super strong, and/or highly intelligent, or extremely independent, even eccentric, or too artistic/creative for the structure of the culture, members of the LGBTQ community and possibly some sociopaths who aren’t bound by family ties or affection. 

I think even people who have been terribly abused stay in these cults. It’s very hard to break free psychologically without a certain kind of stepping stone. 

I do feel some pity for members of the cult at times. And there’s been something about Anna that for me is always hopeful and slightly innocent. I can’t explain.  

Even though she has siblings outside I think she is fully vested psychologically and really doesn’t have the vocabulary nor can comprehend leaving. 

In her mind anything bad that Josh has done that had to do with something sexual is her fault or someone else’s fault. As we know, that’s what the cult teaches it’s members.

This reeks of Prince Andrew needing to "honourably' say goodbye to a Pedo by staying at his house for five days.

Give a pedo a job because you "support" him

Not that I’m aware of. At the time I wrote that I thought it was*. When someone else asked, I did a search to see and couldn’t find any evidence. I can’t edit that post anymore so it’s going to be a good example of me needing to do independent research prior to posting. ?
