Actually I think it kind of strange that none of the oh so godly Duggars hasn't gone to the middle east to seek out the places where Jesus supposedly walked. But I get that doing so is legitimately dangerous too with all the conflict.

Yeah doubt any islands, the Outer Banks are pretty tame compared to the tropics and a lot of island life (speaking as someone who lived in the Keys and watches a lot of Anthony Bourdain) would be too much booze and boobs for the Duggars. 

In general I imagine they'll go wherever TLC sends them since they're willing to pimp out their first amount of private time for a TV show.

Joy and Austin actually went to Israel as a second honeymoon/missionary trip. It was a bit hushed up and I believe they only showed their honeymoon in Switzerland on Counting On, although they did mention something about only being back home in the US for two days before heading off to Israel again, iirc.

Did some more digging and ... the entire family also went to Israel in 2012. There's a blog post about that on Lily and Ellie's fanblog: http://www.duggarfamilyblog.com/2012/03/photos-duggars-in-israel.html Not sure if that was shown on 19KAC, but the pictures show the filming crew.

Yes, that was in 19 Kids and Counting. They did the whole "Holy Land Tour" that other people I know have done. They were baptized(most re-baptized I think. Except Amy was baptized officially by Jimbob) in the Jordan, Grandma tried to take home mud from the Dead Sea, and they sang Amazing Grace at the empty tomb. And that was when Josie had a health snag, and she and Michelle had to stay back a few days. A doctor escorted them home on the plane.

  Yes, I wonder now if any of them will go to Iran or Iraq or Saudi Arabia where it's really dangerous to be a Christian. I think India is headed that way, but I could be wrong. But if they did, the film crew likely couldn't go with them.

Yeah, I imagine the reason we haven't seen any Duggars in the Middle East (outside of Israel) is because Muslims. Scary, brown Muslims. Who probably don't take too kindly to a bunch of entitled, completely useless Americans trying to convert them.

I'm putting in an official prediction for an engagement before Labor day, wedding before the year is up.  Baby by Christmas 2019.  I'm thinking that they will go somewhere in the US for their honeymoon, unless they do missionary work as part of it.

I know the Duggar's original "career goals" were all Gothard-approved, but what if JD really does want to be a missionary pilot? Maybe they will do REAL missionary work and not the "let's play a missionary on tv" that Jill and Dimwit did?' He has a source of income--his house. He has a major skilll--pilot. She is a nurse. They could do real good by going as a long-term missionary. For those whose picture of missionaries is the African Queen, today REAL missionaries do REAL good for the long term while praying to save souls. Clean water, safe birthing centers etc.

I agree the wedding will be very soon.

While I agree that the DUGGARS would be scared to travel outside of Israel for the reasons you mentioned, I strongly disagree with your predictions on the response of the residents.  Middle-Eastern cultures are alarmingly hospitable.  Outside of radicals, they would likely be treated gently and politely by most, even if they are moderately annoying.  

Remember that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah were NOT actually sexual in nature.  They were destroyed because they displeased the Lord (also known as Allah) by being INHOSPITABLE TO GUESTS.  That's how seriously desert peoples generally view guest hospitality.  

I have been to the Kazakstani and Pakistani border zone with China, which is populated by middle eastern and Turkic peoples.  It's incredible the kindness and courtesy you will receive from COMPLETE STRANGERS, who feel it is their personal duty to assist in your comfort in ANY way they can (even when you are confused or being VERY "touristy").  Many of my friends have traveled and lived in Afghanistan, Jordan, UAE, and Egypt.  One of my friends had visa issues crossing at a remote checkpoint in Jordan that necessitated a call to the US Embassy to get things worked out.  As expected, this was a process that took a few hours.  The entire checkpoint staff actually vacated the single air-conditioned room they were working out of and voluntarily worked outside in the scorching desert midday heat so that my friend (a woman) could be inside.  They couldn't be in the same room with her, but the thought of allowing a female traveler to stay outside in the heat was simply not something they were willing to entertain.  

They may face opposition from authorities, of course, as "annoying people for Jesus" is illegal in many countries, but from average residents, they would probably be treated kindly and politely, though firmly rejected.  Never underestimate the well of Middle Eastern hospitality.  It runs DEEP.

Maybe I didn't express myself particularly clearly - after all, it was just a very short post mostly meant to convey that I think the Duggars are scared to travel in muslim-majority countries.

By saying they probably "don't take too kindly to a bunch of entitled, completely useless Americans trying to convert them," I didn't mean that anyone would wish (or do) them harm. Just that they wouldn't be thrilled, and they wouldn't be open to listening to the Duggars preach at them. Neither would I. I agree that (culturally speaking, which can obviously vary significantly on an individual level) people in Middle Eastern countries tend to be very friendly and hospitable. I have lots of friends from Arab countries, many of them Syrian refugees (I used to work with refugees when I was still in Germany, and became friends with many of them), and they are all very friendly and generous people. But not a single one of them would be open to Christian missionaries preaching at them. They either already have their own religion, or have made the concious choice to leave that religion. Not one of them wants to convert to Christianity.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you there.  Though I think the Duggars would refrain from preaching.  They talk a lot of talk, but at the end of the day, there is a REASON why people like the Duggars and Bates prefer missioncations to actual missions: they are cowards.  They aren't interested in seeing real consequences for preaching.

I don't have time right now to elaborate further, but there is still a lot of damage being done by missionaries (and even secular projects), and even the projects that seem legitimately helpful often have negative effects.

I would love to hear the problems with projects that seem legitimately helpful.  Not that I disagree, just always interested in the facts others bring to the table, when you have time and if you want.

There is a TON of information about this on the net - but as an example.

US "missionaries" go out to a country to "build" a school, and do a shoddy job.  They've raised an absolute ton of money that is spent on their air fares, and they are fed etc by their group, so the cash they bring in doesn't go far.  They're not professional builders, so the job is shoddy, and leaves the community with a crappy building.  They feel very self satisfied, and kids sit in a leaky shed.

But imagine how that money could have been spent instead, paying local builders, or training locals to build it, who'll be buying their food in the local shops, and spreading the money so much further and doing SO much more, because the money that flies in a load of Duggar types over could buy school equipment for decades.

And that's before we even start with the spiritual abuse/bullshit that goes with wealthy white types flying in to tell the "natives" they're doing it wrong, then flying out a week later.

There's a documentary called Poverty, Inc. which delves into how some charities and projects can do more harm than good.
