Josh, Anna and the Ms 16: The sins of our fathers

I agree that the girls should have never been identified. However, the shitstorm started when JB & M refused to take the appropriate actions with Josh and the girls. Their minds are so twisted by their cult they don't have the ability to do what most rational people would have done. Next, all the kids involved never, ever got the help they should have gotten and are still living with that.

Regarding Anna and her choice to stay married...I don't believe she felt like she had much of a choice. She's got people up in her ear about how she pledged "until death do us part" and all that bullshit about forgiving. She probably couldn't see that there were alternatives and a way to make a life for herself and her children. I believe she's as much a victim as the other victims are. She's just as brainwashed and probably got quite a bit of pressure from both sets of parents to not bring disgrace on the family by divorcing him.

exactly the girls want to sit there and be mad at the county the police the media they go on national TV defending their parents and Josh and  JIm Bob and Michelle decide to rebrand their show and keep it on the air instead of doing the smart thing and fading away into obscurity and letting their daughters heal they are all trying to make more money on it. feeling bad for the girls is one thing if they had stayed private AFTER it happened but they are still on TV and still holding the wrong people accountable.

I got taken to task for the last time I criticized this type of posting, so I'll just ask nicely this time, and maybe you'll listen.  Please use punctuation.  It is your friend and ours.

What do you mean by that? I don't think I said anything about punishing the girls. I think I said the girls never got the help they should have gotten. Can you please point out to me where I said anything about punishing the girls?

Different people can share in the blame. Like, Josh is to blame for molesting people. Jim Bob and Michelle are to blame for not getting him the proper help and not adequately protecting their daughters. Various other people in their community are to blame for not reporting this to the authorities when they knew. And whoever released those reports is to blame for not redacting them properly. It's not an either-or situation. The fact that Jim Bob and Michelle screwed up doesn't negate the fact that other people screwed up, too. The fact that the Duggar daughters maybe should be angrier at their parents doesn't bar them from being angry at the other people involved.

I wonder if Josh has depression. He fell hard. People in society don’t forgive child molesters. I wonder if JB feels responsible. If Josh wants to sue anyone, it should be JB & Michelle for not properly handling it.

Can I just say for the record as well - I think Josh's case should be thrown out.

Uh who is Kendall Kardashian?

(I legit don't know if you meant Khloe Kardashian or Kylie Jenner)

Kendall is Kylie and Khloe (and Kortney and Kim)’s sister. She never announced she was pregnant just appeared with a baby one day.

Kylie was the one with the secret baby.  Kendall is the one who is the really freaking beautiful model.

Plus, Kylie and Kendall have never been Kardashians. Their last name has always been Jenner. (And I kind of wish I didn't know that. :pb_redface: )

And everyone knew she was pregnant, Kylie just didn’t confirm it until Stormi was born.

Great name considering the recent political scandals with a certain pornstar. :P The names have gone downhill since Mason and Penelope.

I KNOW. The names started off so strong. How did we end up with Chicago, Dream, stormi?? Ugh.

I dread Khloe’s name choice.

As for believing the police shouldn’t be held responsible for releasing the reports, I call bullshit. They did such a horrible job redacting those reports that I almost wonder if they wanted the sisters outed.

Knowing how FOIA requests work (from both sides), I can just about guarantee you a clerk in the police department was tasked with redacting information. The police department clerks that I know (and yes, they are in Arkansas, for whatever that's worth), aren't exactly "broke out with smarts" (as we also say in Arkansas). Should someone have proofed his/her work? Yes, of course. But assigning such an important task to someone ill-equipped to do the job correctly is also typical. "Not my job - have Susie Lou Who do it. She ain't busy."

So Susie Lou Who used her favorite black sharpie wherever she saw a name, then  she handed the documents to the popo chief - likely instead of her supervisor who might have had enough sense to proofread it - who skimmed them/pronounced them "good enough"/released them. I see this type of behavior a LOT in my own industry.

I actually think Dream is kind of a cute name.  Not that I would want to have it myself, but I like the idea behind it. I also think North West is a brilliant name.

We seem to have.  It's an almost daily thing of someone needs to keep an eye on this or that thread.

I actually think Khloe might go with a not so off the wall name.  So far Kourtney is winning the name game over her siblings by a landslide.  Chicago is by far the worst of the bunch, though.  Yikes.

The girls have every right to be angry about being revealed as abuse victims. They didn't need that being brought up again. Them continuing to be on TV doesn't mean they have to forgive or forget the media's part in them being exposed. Should they blame Josh and their parents yes, they may do to an extent but when it's your family and have been raised to obey and respect your elders and to forgive, it's not easy to blame them.

I don't think Anna knew the whole truth about the abuse and she still loves Josh, she probably was furious when she found out about the cheating, she have considered for split second leaving but that means going against her beliefs, her family and she had four kids to think about. She also hoped he could be rehabilitated, Jesus Jail may seem ineffective to us but Anna and the Duggar's believe it will help Josh

Completely agree -- having names redacted by not other information that makes it fairly plain the victim was a relative of the perpetrator is very common. The difference is most of the time, the redacted reports are only seen by reporters writing the story and not posted online, and most reputable news organizations are careful not to identify victims even when they know who they are. Because of the Duggars celebrity status, those reports got posted online for all to see. I'm sure the clerk did the same job redacting things as they always did -- not really thinking about where those reports would end up. I feel badly for the girls who were identified as a result.

Speaking as a former police department clerk (whether or not I'm "broke out with smarts" is debatable), this is bonkers to me. There is no way in hell that a report like that would have been farmed out to some random clerk where I worked. A huge part of my job was redacting and releasing police reports, and I wouldn't have even been the one to do that. It would have been the woman who was in charge of FOI, a professional with many years of experience, who was well aware of, and extremely invested in, the need to strictly follow FOI rules and guidelines. A report that was that sensitive would have been agonized over (I mean, it never would've been released, but again, I'm in a different country). I get that smaller police departments in smaller cities have fewer resources, but that's f---ing ridiculous. There's no excuse.

I think you’re totally broke out with smarts, @singsingsing.  I posit that the person in charge of this police report was less so. They really dropped the ball.
