@Quiver Full of Kittens - I think it is pretty common too. I went to a conservative Christian college, and the "oral sex" loophole was another common one (it's not mentioned in the Bible so we're good!).

One of my friends swears she heard the girl in the dorm next to her say to her boyfriend, "Just stick it in my ear!" That couple was all over each other all the time so we had a good laugh about what that excited sentence really meant :puke-front:

At my Roman Catholic high school, they had abstinence speakers (ironinically they came the day after I lost my virginity). They also had a daycare in a remote corner of the 5th floor for all the unwed teen moms who were trying to finish their studies.

I don't know if anyone else's churches did this, but my church actually gave us the sex talk. They had a whole lock in about it. It was the cringiest thing ever but our pastor kept saying that "oral sex is still sex" and shouldn't be done and I don't think he realized that half of our class didn't know oral sex was a thing until he started talking about it.

Our church did this, but they also sat all the girls down and we had to go through I Kissed Dating Goodbye. That was great fun.

My church didn't give us the sex talk, but gave us the abstinence talk and how you don't want to be a chewed up piece of gum for your future husband. I've since left that church and am happy my kids won't hear those talks!

Canada already did :P

Yes, Canada legalized duelling recently. But both murder and attempted murder are still illegal, so I don't think we'll see anyone drawing pistols up here anytime soon.

My bratty sister has given my kids a music set, recorders, whoopie cushions, silly putty and a really scary book that is supposed to be for kids but it's about a spider that kidnaps and eats other kid bugs or something. I can't remember what it's called because it's shoved in a closet somewhere but I read it before reading it to my then 18 month old and could not believe it was for kids. She's a really good aunt though so I guess it could be worse.

OoOooOo was it The Spider and the Fly by Tony Ditzerelli? I love that one, but I'm a fan of non happily ever after children's books.

I don't have any tips on how to go bare legged in summer, but I have the same problem and will share my solution to the chafing.
I buy special underpants that look like leggings, but are specifically made to be worn as underwear. So the fabric is a lot thinner and cooler than a legging. The brand I buy is called "Sloggi", I don't know if this is an internationally known brand (I'm in The Netherlands). They sell them in black, white and tan. Most stores that carry the brand don't sell this specific type, but online I find a lot of webshops that carry them.

Love me some Sloggi! (Ireland & UK). They're very similar to Thinx, which IMHO, are the greatest, most genius thing ever!!!

When I was a news editor in a small town, I had to type up a police report that went something like this, "John Smith reported someone entered his house, took a package of hotdogs out of the fridge and cooked them in the microwave. Loss estimate is 3.99 for the hotdogs."

Fricking glorious.

That's almost as brilliant as the 65pg risk assessment on writing risk assessments that is framed along the main corridor of the H&S Exec in London.

Church lock ins are where we learned and experimented the MOST with sex. (in the late 70s early 80s).

Forgot to add the licked cupcake analogy. My hubby reminded me of that eye rolling analogy.

We had SO.MUCH.FUN. at church lock-ins. The adults were all like:  "Bring your friends! Bring your boyfriend! Bring your girlfriend"

And we'd "lock in" while the chaperones hung out in the kitchen part of the fellowship hall and got drunk. So. We all know how THAT went, right? lol

the mere mention of church lock ins reminds me of the children's pastor at a church I went to before I moved 7 years ago getting after someone on the building committe after we put an additon onto the church for an area in one new stairwell that she had labeled as a prime makeout zone (that would then need to be monitored)

I dated a fundie lite guy who was emotionally and verbally abusive to me because I wasn't a virgin, yet he had no problem doing everything else with me and at one asked me to actually have sex with him. Thankfully I had a tiny bit of self respect left and said no but I always thought it was hilarious how he and all of his fundie light friends were "so pure" except they all did basically everything else.

This guy also had a porn addiction and was emotionally cheating on me with a girl who he must have deemed worthy of his Godliness. She was apparently worthy of him (a virgin) and a wonderful person but she had no problem texting another girl's boyfriend nonstop. They're married now, so jokes on her. :2wankers::pb_lol:

Yes!! It's cool but a little creepy for me to read to my kids. They have a morbid curiosity when it comes to that book haha

This. This is why i'm here & interested in conversation regarding this hypocritical bullshit.

If you want to worship whoever and whatever, you do you. I support that.

But the second it turns into a power hungry, hypocritical and controlling method of force on others with ridiculous standards and unrealistic expectations AND hurts them, no. Big Hard No.

This is exactly what drives me up the wall. This isn't about religion, it's about control. This idea that i can do whatever i want but i'm going to control every little tiny thing that you do.

I can't. I need to walk away from the computer. :censored:

By the early 2000s, our church had wised up. I went to one lock in and the rest were "lock outs." You spent the full night, but you went out and did things like scanveger hunts and midnight bowling. There was no time for much, if anything, sexual.

That relationship is really what opened my eyes to the possibility of my upbringing being toxic. It has taken me years to recover from the abuse and anger that I felt at myself for letting it happen but in a way I'm glad it did because after I initially rebeled and pretended it never happened, I started asking myself some serious questions about my core beliefs. And now I'm fascinated by this fundie cult culture.

So many things that the Duggar say make my heart break because those children are being broken. Their spirits are taken from them. It's so wrong and it makes me so angry.

I have fond memories of my church lockins in junior high. I'm recalling memories of flashlight tag or flashlight hide and seek in the church. I'm sure some people might have used it to make out, but when you're all alone in the balcony and a 13 year old comes screaming, charging from a hiding space and shining a flashlight in your face, it's downright scary. Looking back, I'm surprised no one got hurt. Still fun, though.

Did you guys just not have chaperones/adult supervision at these lock-ins, or...?

I never went to church, but I did organize freshman orientation at my college as an upperclassmen and we had a saying that probably applies to most church lock ins these days, about keeping all the kids, "Captive and active." Nowhere else to go, no time to get up to any funny business.
