For the life of me I cannot understand the point of guessing a baby's birthdate/size/sex. I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, I'm really not. Lord knows I do plenty of things that are every bit as pointless. But it's just such random guessing, like playing the lottery but without any reward if you guess right.

I know this is no way unique to this board. I used to participate in several online mommy communities and it was constantly going on there too. I've just never understood the appeal.

I think it all started here as trying to guess what goofy names the Seewalds would give their kids, and then sort of exploded from there. (I was browsing the thread from around the time Jessa had Spurgeon, and someone had 'guessed' the name Spongebob, so they were technically the closest.) I know that I personally predicted that Jessa would go to a hospital for the birth and be pampered throughout, but it was more a means of willing it to happen than an actual hunch. :/

These people aren't thrilling. We aren't going to have something to talk about all the time. So it boils down to passing the time and finding really ugly names to make other people laugh. 

Like people saying that Jill's Baby will be Iraq or Iran. It's just funny!
