Seriously though, I agree with being hard to believe the Master Plumber and Electrician titles.  Although, I think we discussed this before and found Kansas very lax in their requirements for these titles??

Is Kansas so loose since they don't grant licenses at the state level that he studied and passed the exams without more than Steve supervised experience?

The kidults are incredibly sheltered and probably John just accepted every tag that came up.

Poor John tried to start a conversation on Linkedin about who was going to the IA conference last August.  He didn't get much of a response.  Someone found him on other computer or irrigation sites a while ago.  It looks as though he is trying to reach out but other people are just not interested.  He is obviously such a wet behind the ears young puppy.

IIRC, the master plumber/master electrician thing came up before and an FJer posted that the requirements in Kansas are pretty lax. A quick Google shows me that the master plumber exam is a 100-question, open-book, 3-hour exam that requires a minimum of 70% to pass. It's also a city/county license, not statewide. If that's true and it's similar for a master electrician, then John could very well have both licenses. Does it mean he's got mad skillz? Definitely not, but the average consumer would probably look at "licensed master" whatever, think it's all just hunky-dory and end up getting screwed over the bargain.

Eh, the Maxwell Men are walking examples of the old adage "Jack of all trades, master of none."

I am speechless at this difference. In MI it's ten years and 20,000 of supervised work to become a master electrician, and in KS it's a 100 question open book test that any anyone off the street can pass in an afternoon? Speechless.

That's stupid that it's so lax, but Kansas has been the great libertarian experiment for a while now. Wonder if the lax requirements are just a symptom of that.

If Sarah was courting you can count on the thread title being like OH MY GOD SARAH MAXWELL IS ACTUALLY MARRIED since I think that they'd only post something once Sarah was married like they did with Joseph. They've learnt from their previous failures.

There have been requests that Curious send all longtime FJers smelling salts if this were to happen. I suspect it would at least make one of those banner notices up top of the screen. Same if an Arndt is photographed within five feet of a woman he's not directly related to.

But yeah, even if I'm really busy I always try to at least check in to FJ every few days because I'm paranoid this will happen if I'm away too long.

Gah.  I'm so sick of these patriarchs using religion as a weapon to seize all of the power.  So Stevehovah is a little tin pot god who has complete rule over all of his family members-- it just makes me think he doesn't really believe in God or heaven or Jesus because forcing your family to do whatever you tell them to do and keeping yourself as chief disciplinarian and rule maker is neither Biblical nor Christian, it is just power politics.

Smelling salts?  I want a jeroboam of champagne if Poor Sarah marries.

I doubt that the FJ coffers could run to that for all of us so I'll spring for my own bottle of Vinho Verde.

That's sad. But also, why couldn't Sarah still blog as a married woman? Even the holiest of christian stay-at-home-submit-to-their-husbands-homeschooling wives and moms still blog.

It was Mary who was going to help with the blogging in anticipation of Sarah's supposed marriage.  Mary did actually blog a few entries.  Her writing was actually far worse than Sarah's, and she was pulled from that apprenticeship.  She wasn't exactly a good testimony to the Maxwell's home schooling.  Teri had well and truly checked out by the time her youngest was being "educated".

Is it possible to google for Johns license numbers? If he is a "master" wouldn't he need a license and be registered somewhere? If I were to hire someone for this work, I would want to find his license somewhere first to make sure s/he is legit.

I tried to find a database for their county but so far no luck. I did find a database site for another KS county that details what's needed for those master licenses but not sure if it changes based on county or if it's state-wide requirements.

Kansas it's county by county or city by city.  So far only a few jurisdictions seem to have anything set up.

I think Anna was going to learn how to manage the Titus2 Admin Office?  

I remember reading that because it was actually on her birthday that she started her "new job"! 

Anna seems to be smart and an all-rounder with cooking, IT, office skills.  

She would be probably be a good person to transfer assets into new bank accounts, create new identities and fake ID for them all, and pack a good picnic to load in John's truck before they drive off into the distance to begin a new life.
