Jill and Jessa Duggar Special Sunday Dec 13 - Merge

@calimojo They had sister time in the car. Jinger just looked bored shopping. The whole scene was Jessa deciding between a green and white chair. I'd want to put a fork in my eye too.

Its also possible that they had already talked about most of what TLC wanted to show, so it was all repeat for them.

I think the whole issue is that they're not part of a mainstream family. Even though the couples in question have one baby each, both daughters still seem to consider their primary family unit to be the Duggar family. They are still part of that extended family and are both still living in Arkansas (when not on mission). They are going to still be there and still be wholly involved in the Duggar family circus.

The show is going to be shit like Jessa going out with Jinger, Jill doing buddy duties with Joy and James. It's going to be 19kac without JB and Michelle. It will be the same basic show.

It doesn't need a new gimmick, they'll keep using the old one until Jessa or Jill (or any other future married J kids) have enough children of their own to be a stand alone show. There's a reason they included both Jill and Jessa. They're banking on the fact that at least one of them will be doing something mildly interesting and Duggar-related at any given time.

I guess I'm not sure why people are concerned about the new show being boring as a drawback. The old show was boring and it was still a ratings juggernaut.

Because there was something unique about the family.

Unique and boring is one thing.

Doing nothing, about nothing, not unique is quite another.

I get on Radar Online today and I see an article about Dillon King making statements about the Duggars.

http://radaronline.com/celebrity-news/josh-duggar-sex-scandal-family-using-porn-addict-wife-anna-ratings/

Quote

According to cousin Amy Duggar‘s husband, Dillon King, the powerful Christian clan is hoping to turn Anna’s crying into cash.

“It looks like they are using all the emotion for ratings,” King told In Touch. “It’s just not right.”

Is Dillon being paid for his opinions? If so, that is just as bad. You are selling out your family. Anna's brother posted his opinion on Facebook. I don't think he received any payment. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Michelle and Jim Bob are also using their children for the show. I hope that each child over the age of 18 gets their own check, but who am I kidding; all of the money is going to Jim Bob.

Anyone else shocked that Jill was being filmed in pants?

There's so much NIKE in the picture where they're sitting down. I mean, you can see Derick's knees because he's in shorts. Jill's in pants.... HEATHENS.

Agreed! I was shocked. I actually hit rewind when I saw that to make sure my eyes weren't tricking me.

is there a clip anywhere that shows Jinger shopping with jessa.  From the descriptions it sounds like Jinger was not keeping all that sweet.  I would like to watch that part, just to see that.  Makes me wonder if there is a rift between Jinger/Jessa.  While Jinger has always talked about how close they were,  I am not sure if Jessa felt the same way.  I could see her being the kind of person who abandons their friends when a man enters the picture, and to be fair,  Gothardism probably encourages that.

Balancing multiple interests, school/work, family, friends and relationships is the kind of thing most of learn as we grow up. Our world starts small and grows larger as we grow up and gain maturity. With each new thing we add to our lives we learn how to fit that new thing in with out losing something else important.

The Duggars never learned how to be individuals because they were always together. From everything we've seen on the show none of them is EVER allowed to to anything solo and develop the skills needed to balance life so Jessa not maintaining her closeness with Jinger isn't all that surprising.

The same could probably be said about Jill too. She seems to need to be around more people though and might be better about keeping in touch and maintaining those relationships.

No cable so I didn't watch the special.  Were there any Duggars under 18 appearing?  I just thought it was the older ones, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi! I have EDS too (our geneticist actually thinks my brother and I have both Marfan Syndrome and EDS). It is actually a fairly rare disorder, so it's nice to run into to someone outside of my family who has it.

Sorry to hear that, but glad to have some company!

I thought it really seemed like Jinger and Jessa hadn't spoken in awhile. When they were talking about the pregnancy it seemed like Jinger was asking questions that Jessa would have at least texted her about if they'd been closely in touch. I felt bad for her.

But don't they screen and do family texting for the unmarried duggarlings? Maybe she didn't feel like having a group convo just to ask normal questions. I wouldn't want to text like that.

"Look at those eyes!" "That hair! Oh my gosh!" Is how I comment on ugly babies

My deceased aunt used to say "fine baby", "cute outfit", and the above. She was such a pistol, it was good that she went the diplomatic route.

Maybe it would make her less of a barnacle on Derrick's behind. She has serious separation anxiety issues.

My mum is hilarious when commenting on ugly babies. I think at her age she simply does not give a sh*t.

"OH! He/She looks just like his / her mother / father!" (Always the uglier parent)

When you're just born though you look like a dim sim, so it's not really the time to make decisions based on their looks. :)

Do they still do that even if the conversation is between family members?

Oh, who am I kidding. We can't have the married kids giving uncensored information to the unmarried ones!

My aunt would be 100 in 2016 if she was still alive, and never gave a shyte  about much that came out of her mouth, she was hilarious too. She also used "healthy baby".

Now that's a good way to deal with it. I've not seen too many unfortunate looking babies, so it surprises me when I do but  gush about something anyway. I don't want the mom to feel badly.

I generally find all babies gorgeous. But I remember going to a christening back in the 80s and when I went to gush over the baby, I was confronted with the ugliest baby I had ever seen in my entire life.  "Oh isn't he tiny" was all I could think of to say to the adoring parents . I still have never seen a baby that ugly again.

Wasn't Jill at the TTH every day in between  dropping off and picking up Derrick at work?

I totally agree, however many folks with connective tissue disorders (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Marfan) have no idea until their health (or that of a family member) takes a nosedive.  Even then, you'd have to either be willing to research on your own, and/or find a CTD knowledgable doctor, something I don't see these people doing.  Derrick may very well have a CTD, in which case odds are that quite a few of their future bazillion kids will as well, but they appear to be clueless about Derick's (obvious to me) health issues, so I doubt they're on the lookout for any signs with Israel (most of which are very hard to see in a baby anyway).

Narrow palate and narrow face are one of the (many) signs of Marfan's... also you wonder because Derick's father died suddenly and quite young of a heart disorder.

I really doubt that the oral surgery is the cause of Derick's weight loss.  There are a lot of high calorie drinks you can sip, as well as pureed food, and you'd think that Jill with her training would make extra sure Derick was getting enough decent nutrition.  Although some people just lose weight really easily when they are under stress, you have to think living in South America with all that sun and slow paced life would have been just the thing to counteract the Josh madness for the Dillards.  Unlike Ben or most of the Duggar boys, Derick actually has a profession he can slide back in to support his family if necessary.

Probably, she could not spend a moment alone after marriage. Either she was at the TTH, or some of them were at her house.  I don't see how Derrick stands her suffocating ways.

I heard she was spending her time studying for her fake midwife license exam.  Not to mention, sometimes meeting Derick for lunch at work.

That's why he needs a thorough physical and Jilly should see that he gets it. Could also be a sign of diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or a hundred other things.

And calling Derrick at work, no respect for his job when he had it. Ugh.

I'm just hoping that if he does have Marfan's, that I receive my Certified Medical Professional TM  designation from Free Jinger in recognition of my correct diagnosis on p. 25 of this topic.  :my_sick:

Then, like Jill, I will have my fake qualifications and can diagnose the Duggars.

Did Derrick's mom do a lot of real cooking? Having to get used to eating all kinds of prepackaged junk if you've grown used to real food (or going from prepackaged to real food ) can be rough.  Food can taste weird and unappetizing.

We've seen what the Duggars consider home cooking, I can't imagine they have more than a nodding acquaintance with actual nutrition.

Except it's the same family. It's going to focus on all the same people. They don't have to convince people it's worth watching because people already care about them and want to know what they're doing.
