Joshley Madison Pt 7: O Smuggar Where Art Thou?

We're reached the point in the scandal lifecycle where there's nothing new to talk about but people aren't ready to stop talking. This is when things get ugly, with inappropriate speculation and the spinning of worst-case-scenarios. Everything is repetitive and everyone is sensitive. Arguments break out over dumb shit.

 

It's okay to say nothing if there's nothing new to be said.

It's not okay to wish disease or suicide on someone, even if you really don't like them.

 

Latest discussion points:

 

Josh allegedly checked into "rehab" for his "sex addiction" but it's not at all clear he's actually there. No one knows for sure where he actually is.

 

Anna is being highly pressured to stay in her marriage.

 

A porn star claims that she banged Josh twice for money, but Josh might have an alibi for the dates in question. A "sex workers are people too" discussion got really heated and ugly and we're going to move on from that now.

 

The Backstory:

In addition to being a child molester who victimized his own sisters, golden boy Joshua Duggar had 2 accounts on Ashley Madison, a website whose motto is "Life is Short, Have an Affair." He paid extra for the Affair in 3 Months or Your Money Back! guarantee.

 

Josh issued a statement admitting to being unfaithful. It has been edited twice since it went up. The first edit removed an awesome reference to Satan's Fortress in Josh's heart. The second edit removed reference to a porn addiction, and some mention of the molestation scandal.

 

There was an OKCupid account linked to the same email address, but it is now deleted. You can see some screenshots of his answers to various questions here: viewtopic.php?f=87&t=26814

 

And there's at least one Facebook account in the mix as well.

 

Daniel Keller (Anna's brother) offered to let Anna and the kids to stay with him if she wants to leave the pig.

For posterity, I said something to the effect that I couldn't believe we had talked 49 pages of shit about nothing much, and I hoped that HA, Curious and the Helpmeets were sitting sharing a large bottle of gin, ignoring the bullshit, and laughing and drinking a round of shots at each competitive vote for the next thread title.

You deserve a bottle of gin each for your tolerance.... :D

This is always the first thing I look at on OKC matches. I noticed a pattern in the algorhithm and it's pretty clear that some questions are more heavily weighted than others. Point being that the graph is pretty entertaining (to me at least), but it doesn't mean this is his actual personality.

So I poked around Danica's Twitter. Looks like she went to Colorado City and Utah earlier in the summer to gawk at the FLDS.

I guess I find that fascinating since many of us FJers gawk and snark at them too. They fit right in with our topic of patriarchal systems and their abuses. If Danica likes to examine the FLDS, then would she be more aware of Quiverful and the Duggars than she admits?

Just speculation. Then again, she had a post supporting legalization of polygamous marriage, too.

he will make excellent progress and not stay the full 6 months. He will shut up and stay with Anna and we won't hear from them again for months and months -- until the birth of their next child or the next scandal, whichever comes first.

It's not that kind of quiz; the graph develops as you answer the questions already discussed, like do you think it's okay to have sex before marriage, does your sense of humor ever offend others, how often do you drink alcohol, is there a scenario in which you are owed sex, etc (paraphrasing--I've been off OKC for a long time). I am a nerd who answered about 3000 questions and played with my answers enough to notice that some questions impact the graph much more than others. They're multiple choice questions, of course, and some of them don't have any good answers. There's room to leave a comment and explain your response.

Not necessarily. I went through a heavy FLDS-interest phase in grad school and read everything I could get my hands on about them. This was a few years ago and the Duggars weren't quite as big and well-known, but there was nothing in the FLDS, etc. books to lead me to Quiverfull. I did learn about the stay-at-home-daughter movement in grad school (a member of my cohort was a fundie-lite refugee) and checked out some blogs, but it took more digging to get a better view of the whole mess (and I'm STILL sorting things out and discovering horrific new facts).

And if she had a post supporting polygamous marriages, she probably didn't do any extensive reading on what those marriages are really like. Big Love, the Browns, and a few other shows on the media could be her only exposure to polygamy...if that. She could also be thinking of secular polygamy (which I suspect she was), where open-minded adults make adult decisions -- not where monogamists are condemned for failing to follow the Principle.

maybe, but not necessarily. interest in one group of fundies doesn't equate interest in multiple groups of fundies. just reading threads like "why are you here" and "since you joined fj" reveal that not even all fj members joined here for the duggar trainwreck.

As to where he is, I'm wondering if they didn't ultimately decide to put him a real place where his privacy would be somewhat assured. RU seems a bad choice for him, even if the "student curriculum" is right up their alley.

I agree the graph paints Josh pretty much as FJers do, and I lol every time I look at it. More arrogant! More romantic. More sex-driven. More pure (this is the drugs and alcohol metric). Less kinky. Less experienced in life. Less literary.

In the old thread, someone mentioned the article on the Slant website, and the awful comments. It took a bit of searching but I found it. (It's the one that says people really ought to be talking about Anna.)

I keep thinking that too. For Anna's sake, I hope that this is all there is, but knowing the Duggar's politics and history, I sincerely doubt this is the last scandal to come out. It's interesting that nothing too outrageous has come out about Jim Bob or J'Chelle so far. I'd much rather see them get taken down than their offspring.

Too true. I started reading here during the Doug Phillips debacle. Visited as a non-commenting guest for months before a topic stirred me enough to want to register and comment. And even then, I waffled back and forth because I didn't want to use my real email address. I finally did, but... The people I used to hang with make me feel paranoid and cautious.

(Mods, can people see my real email address if they send me emails from the site, or if I answer them back? I didn't find that info when looking for it, but maybe it's there somewhere and I just missed it.)
