Amy Duggar careers?

Wish Amy would pop herself into college...it is never to late. I can see her majoring in early childhood education and I think she would excel in a career path along those lines. But, she has a dream. Let her go for it and get it out of her system, better to try then not try. She will sink or swim but at least she will not someday be 50 and looking back wishing she had given it a shot. JMO, For what it's worth.

You make some good points. In addition, at least she is encouraged to pursue her dream, unlike her 19 cousins!

So she was at Jill's wedding after all and she sung? I wonder why TLC didn't include her in the Wedding epidsode?

Perhaps at M & JB's request it be edited out due to Amy's whorish display of her bare shoulders. :gasp & shudder:

That plus her having her own episode. Also TLC doing massive editing lately, literally removing characters, etc. They must have an entire department in charge of the continuity of these lies.

I don't think it's anything so scandalous as bare shoulders. They showed it on Amy's episode which is the same show as the show Jill's wedding was on. My guess is they just chose to show other things for Jill's wedding episode. Obviously we saw only a short glimpse into the day.

It's Amy's dream. Do I think she'll succeed? No. So what? She isn't tied down to anything so let her try. No one succeeds at everything they do. That's life.

I'm a newbie around here, so please forgive my ignorance on this... but Amy is JB's sister's daughter, correct? Why is her last name Duggar?

** please note that I have no problem with grown women not taking their husband's last name, or keeping their father's or WHATEVER, but given the folks we're talking about I'm curious.

Amy was born out of Wedlock. Her parents got married a few years later I believe.

Her parents got married when she was already a teenager. So when she was born, Deanna, Jim Bob's sister, gave her the name Amy Duggar.

Amy used Jordan as her last name in school - it's in her highschool yearbooks. Her first album was released under Jordan or Jordyn. I can't remember when she switched the spelling. When that didn't take, she began using Duggar as a last name at least for singing.

I know people who have been trained by professionals to sing their entire lives who still struggle getting short-term singing gigs with other jobs mixed in to pay the bills. Even most very, very talented, well trained people never get a big recording deal.

There are plenty of Idol winners who faded back into obscurity. Justin Guarani might be best remembered for that flop of a movie. Fantasia? Who else have we forgotten? Lots of people. People much better at singing than Amy.

But she's also not bad enough to have 15 minutes like William Hung.

Using TLC income to pay a producer to get her a few singing gigs so she can feel like she is developing a music career is nuts. Her parents and grandma need to quit encouraging her on this folly.

Like all Duggars, they think they need no training or education in music to be a musician......not so......

I have to agree. There comes a point when the best thing a parent can do to support their kids is to let them know it's time to focus on something else. Amy isn't getting anywhere, and if her ego keeps being stroked, she'll find herself a middle-age never-was depressed by her lack of accomplishments.

She seems nice enough, maybe a bit hungry for attention she didn't get while her aunt and uncle were popping her cousins out like a machine gun, which might be contributing to her goal of being a star, just to get noticed.

She claims that she's not trying to use the "Duggar" name to get famous and that nobody in Nashville cares anyway, but when they introduced her on the boat, they said she was from "19 Kids and Counting". Yeah right Amy.

Also, is it just me or didn't she seem to be styled a bit "juvenile" in her music video? That hat, really?

I posted a similar post on the regular duggar thread but I should have looked and posted it here. On the other thread someone mentioning Deanna spouting off about us (public not FJ) bashing on Amy's singing career. I have a problem with Amy's "career" because she doesn't work at it!! AT ALL! Like others mentioned - her repertoire is 3 songs? I have about that same repertoire of songs I sing to my children...and they hush me sometimes because I sing so bad! (Nothing quite as humbling as having your 2 year old hush you)

2 examples of young (under 40) ladies trying to make it in Nashville. The first is Dani Jamersion (reverbnation.com/danijamersonband) she is always singing in clubs and venues in about a 100 mile radius of her home town. I saw her when she was still in HS and had to be accompanied by her parents to the bars to sing. She now has a band and has been to Nashville a few times. She works really hard. She sings covers but also sings her own stuff.

Another lady that I went to school with is working her butt off. - Kate Butler she went to college and then moved to Nashville. She has a band (Cherry Rain), writes music and instructs music but she also has done gigs on Y&R (young and the restless) as the house band for the show, Nick Jr, etc. Her band has opened for Restless Heart, Point of Grace, Burns & Poe and Phil Keaggy. She takes all these different opportunities to grow and build her business. She is making a living at singing but most likely she won't be a Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift or Miranda Lambert (I would love to eat those words one day 8-) ). integritimusic.com/the-team/kate-taylor-butler/ facebook.com/cherryrainmusic

That is why I scoff at Amy's singing "career" because she doesn't seem to really want it. She isn't working in all the clubs, touring around her area, taking gigs as a back up singer, singing on a show boat as a regular gig, playing/singing in a piano bar, etc. Hell, it doesn't even sound like she is a regular cantor at church! There are clubs in Arkansas that have singers, I bet there are country radio stations that have concerts, if she wants to go Christian music I bet the same goes for Christian radio stations and instead of clubs- I bet there is a circuit for Christian singers in the churches that tour.

That video was AWFUL! It looked very late 80s/early 90s. Ironically last night I put on Friends and it was the show where Phoebe made a music video for her song "smelly cat" - In the episode Phoebe was like "I am so talented! Look at me! It's so great!" as the others were looking at her like :pink-shock: When watching the video I couldn't help but think of Amy's video.

I think Amy is just twiddling her thumbs until she can snag a man, get married, have a few kids, and sing in the church choir. She seems to smother her boyfriends & drive them away though.

For some reason I thought she had actually attended college for a while.

She should at least get her butt into community college & get an Associates Degree in childhood development or something. And besides, higher education is a good place to look for a decent husband.

I finally got to watch the Amy check-in episode. Whoa … she’s soooo annoying and totally deluded. :pink-shock:

She's never going to have career in music. I don’t think that she’s a terrible singer, but there are so many people who have more talent, more drive, a better personality, who are prettier, who work harder, who know more about music and who aren't pushing thirty and still bringing their mummy and granny to work.

At 28, Amy wanted to find out if she could stand on her own two feet. Way to go!! :cray-cray:

She can even drive the car all by herself now. Wow!

She sung at one wedding, did like two concerts with one song each and now calls herself an artist?! LOL

Why did she need her producer telling her to make a music video to get some exposure? She couldn’t figure that out herself? Really?!?

She has a gaggle of cousins who are into videography. Why hasn’t she enlisted them to make some music videos for her for Youtube? I'm sure they wouldn't have been worse that what her uber-creepy producer put together for her...

Speaking of videos, does she even have her own YouTube channel? I know someone trying to break into the fashion world and they have their own website, occasionally, when they can afford it, they pay for professional shoots to showcase their portfolio on real-life models, they have accounts on various social media to also showcase their portfolio, and they put themselves out there for exposure. I'm assuming Iggy Azalea, Karmin, Christina Perri, and the like did the same. I went through Amy's instagram quickly and didn't see too much of her "portfolio" on there. Shopping/product placement doesn't count in the singing world.

Your highschool friend has a very nice and soothing voice, her co-singer as well. I don't even listen to country music and I like it.

I don't think she's particularly talented but I do have to check myself when it comes to Amy.

The things she does are the things I want fundie women to be able to do. She has self confidence. Dreams. Pants. Dates. Choices. So I say good for her for living her life the way she wants.

I see her working at a Maurice's until she finds a guy to marry. If you don't know what Maurice's is, it's a chain of women's clothing stores common throughout the Midwest...Google it and you'll see that it's totes Amy. After an illustrious dating-relationship that's chronicled on FB, she will get married and then announce her pregnancy the very next day. (I know a couple who just got married and it turned out that they were pregnant, and announced the sex of the baby the day after the wedding)

In a way, that makes Amy even more frustrating to me. She has all these opportunities, but she squanders them by being the female equivalent of a man-child. She is childish and pretty out-of-touch with reality. It bothers me that this is the example the Duggar children see as "non-fundie." I imagine it only reinforces the view the non-fundamentalists live life without a strong purpose and always struggle with heartache and immaturity. They don't get to see strong young women actively pursuing their dreams and sacrificing to achieve them. They don't get to see women fulfilled by making their own decisions and living their own lives. No, they get to see cousin Amy.

^^This, totally!

I keep thinking that when Amy returns from Nashville, defeated, (even though I think we all agree she didn't really work it the way that is necessary to really break into the business), it will be a lesson to the girls of "See what happens when you leave home? You just end up coming back again with your head hanging low, and end up in a worse situation. So you best just stay here with with momma and daddy cause we have your heart and we will decide when it is safe for you to be given to a man who can then protect you from your own foolishness"

Amy and Deanna are no doubt held up to the Duggar girls as lessons if you have sex before marriage, and then don't live the QF Lifestyle. Whenever I see Amy or her mom on the show, JB and M are very condescending towards them. I bet they often remind Deanna how they have accepted her even though she sinned of the flesh. Just like JB loves to remind M about her evil kissing before they met.

What I would give to be as outgoing as Famy is. There is so much she could do even while trying to pursue this dream. Take a dump or get off the pot - move to Nashville and put your face out there other ways.

She's got a pretty corn-fed look, and her singing isn't bad. I just don't think she has the connections or incredible voice or gorgeous looks to push her above all those other pretty girls with a decent voice. And from her behavior at the recording, I don't think she has the work ethic either.

That said, she could be a choir director at a church, or a teacher, or service and sales jobs - she had a bubbly cheery personality. Maybe local TV host?
