Lori Goes Skirts-Only . . . Briefly - Merge

Recommended Posts

Lori decided that she wanted to only wear skirts from now on. After all, that's what the Duggars do!

Her deep conviction lasted until she wanted to wear shorts, about a day later.

She gets more childlike every day :evil-eye:

The other Saturday, I decided to only wear dresses and skirts from now on. I had read one woman's blog who decided to do this and it made a lot of sense. In the winter, she wears leggings and other things under her skirts to stay warm. She feels much more feminine wearing them and men even seem to treat her with more respect. Sounded good to me! Besides, the Duggars only wear skirts and they seem happy in them! I mentioned it to Ken and he said it was fine with him but he didn't want me wearing skirts to the floor, just to my knees.

My skin isn't looking so good anymore. My best friend was out here recently and she described her skin as looking like crepe paper. I agreed. Ugh...growing older and WAY too much time out in the sun. {If you are younger, my suggestion to you is to not lay in the sun a lot. My backside looks great since it hasn't seen much sun compared to my front side. The sun really does do a number on your skin, but I sure don't recommend sunscreen. Go with hats, instead, and not being out during the hottest time of the day.} Okay, I got off track, now where was I? Oh, yeah, my wearing only skirts adventure.

So that Saturday, I spent the day looking on my computer at eBay, Macy's, Target, etc.; all the places where I thought I could buy skirts. I don't have that many skirts, maybe three that I could wear comfortably every day. I couldn't find any that I liked, so I thought I would go to Marshalls next week and look around.

The next day, I woke up and put on a skirt for church. {I always wear dresses and skirts to church.} I wore it around the house all day long and even for a graduation party that evening which my sister, Debbi, gave for her two children, Julia and Bradley. Ken and I did go on a walk before the graduation party and I quickly changed into shorts for the walk. {I decided I didn't want to walk in skirts.}

During the walk, I told Ken the real reason I decided to wear skirts was because my skin looked so bad. He told me it didn't at all. {A benefit to growing older is your eyesight isn't so good, which is a very good thing as you age and you are with the same man for many years!}

The next day, I woke up and put on shorts...I like my shorts. They aren't short shorts. I am very comfortable in them. I have a lot of them. However, I think I will begin wearing dresses and skirts more often when I leave my home, especially since the weather is warmer.

So my journey into wearing dresses "only" lasted one day. Oh well, as long as Ken is happy with my aging skin and doesn't mind if I wear skirts or shorts, I guess I will stick with shorts at home for now. I guess I am just not really convicted about it at this time. What is your journey with dresses? Have you been convicted about only wearing them? To me, this isn't a sin issue, but an issue of conviction.

Having nearly injured myself while wearing a nightgown instead of my usual pajamas the other day, I clicked on Laurie's link. Two reactions the first milder than the second – way too much information about Lori's skin. Then – the worst reaction – for some reason I read all the way through the comments to the very last one, from an incest survivor. Oh. My. God. Just for the record, I will never click on anything Laurie related again. Thank you, original poster, you have saved me that much time on the inter-webs!

I was in skirts only from the time I was 5 or 6 until I managed to get out of the fundy world. Never again. In fact, I can barely stand getting in a skirt for any reason these days. I do wear a dress on nice occasions, but I do not want to wear a skirt or dress around the house or for regular daily stuff.

And the comment from the incest survivor was heart-breaking.

The comment section about made my eyes roll out of my head...FFS. One of them gives skirt shopping advice which cautions women with long legs to keep them covered (guilty...and they are hard to cover, they are always there because they are my legs) and adds "no cleavage!". Okay, because that is a huge issue when shopping for a SKIRT.

I actually do wear skirts a lot. Particularly when I need to be dressed nicely for an event, mostly because I am rather disproportionate (size 4 waist, size 8 hips, legs too long for either of those sizes) and it is easier to find skirts that fit than it is to find dress pants. But believe me, my waist to hip ratio assures that I never (as one commenter laments about women in pants) look like a boy from the back no matter what I am wearing.

I also am very comfortable in skirts and dresses and find them cooler in the summer. BUT that is a preference not a moral consideration or a "conviction". One of the things that bothered me most during my time in fundagelical world is the way they HAVE to make every decision and preference into a huge spiritual issue. They are generally very stressed and unhappy as a result. It is not an emotionally healthy way to live.

Made me laugh. Also made me mutter a few unprintables, because my younger sisters STILL are only allowed wear skirts/dresses. All the time. Sucks.

I also had to laugh at the verse she included at the bottom. Isn't the polar opposite of that verse what fundie-ism is all about — their personal (and twisted) ideas/"convictions" defining the lifestyle of other people?

I glanced at it, and did I read it right? After much internal debate and prayer, she decided to go skirts only as a public proof of femininity and honoring God--and Ken went along with it as long as they weren't all long and dowdy and frumpy / religious. Well, all the time except for shorts when walking for exercise, but then her Headship told her that her legs don't look bad for an old broad, so she is back to shorts whenever. It was no doubt a message from God via Ken.

Hallelujah and all that jazz.

AND-- we now know she reads here, as someone made a comment about her legs after she posted her daughter's wedding pics....

But I want to be a PRINCESS!!!!!

It's really amazing the difference in how people treat me when I wear dresses and skirts. They don't treat me badly when I wear pants, but they treat me with more respect when I wear skirts. One little girl even exclaimed to her mom "mommy she's a princess!" (I definitely don't look like a princess but it was adorable just the same! And I liked being called a princess ;) I don't think I'm convicted to wear more skirts and dresses, but it would be my first personal choice based on how I feel in them, and how my sons, husband, and the public treat me when I wear them. Great thought provoker!

What kind of skirt was she wearing if a little girl said she was a princess?

I can only imagine that happening if she was wearing a fancy long sparkly dress, or a wedding dress or something. Not an ordinary skirt that someone would wear every day.

I dare say my sons have never noticed what I wore unless it was interfering with them getting their meals on time.

I suspect her skirts-only stint was an excuse to go shopping. If she really wanted to fanwank the Duggars, she should have transformed her dress slacks into skirts.

Wait, what's ungodly about sunscreen? I think I missed something :?

And how is wearing a hat supposed to help the skin on your "front side" and legs be protected from the sun? I would assume that's what she's talking about in a post about skirts...

I really think she wanted to write a blog post about the ONE TIME that Ken wasn't a complete asshole, but of course she had to drape that in Titus 2 Womanhood

Long stretchy tube skirts are everywhere in the shops here, I quite like the look except the other day I had on a pair of Birkies and felt a bit.....Duggerish

I'm thinking the Lycra content precludes my conversion to the dark side.

Great sun advice from Lori ....not. I remember though she said black salve will cure Melanoma so it's all good. Numpty.

What a hot mess that woman is.

The only reason she wanted to go skirts and dresses only is because a) men will treat her better, b) her skin looks like crap, or c) The Duggars do it.

Lori, you're 50 something years old, grow the hell up and wear whatever the hell you want. Nobody cares. NOBODY.

And that Duggar fangirl stuff is downright creepy.

I've worn skirts for the last two days. That means I have managed to go skirts only longer than Lori.

What a strange, stream-of-consciousness post.

It reminds me of me, every night. I lay in bed thinking "Tomorrow is gonna be the day I start getting back in shape. It's time. Go, meeeeee!"

Then it's morning and I think "Eh. I look okay. Eff all that."

But with skirts.

I'm just glad that Lori chose something that doesn't hurt anyone else for her one-day Deep Conviction Big Project.

I can imagine her adopting then dumping an animal, or a child, or grifting for some project an then not following through.

Happily, all she did was give us some lovely snarkable material. Very generous, Lori -- thanks! :D

How can she call this a 'journey to skirts only' if she only threw on a skirt for a day?

It was a day trip.

ETA, since I gave myself a song cue:

Come close, open Lori’s closet door, and listen – one of the skirts is singing!

Got a good reason for cryin’ my little eyes out

Got a good reason for cryin’ my little eyes out now

She was a day skirter, a one-day fickle schmo.

It took me no time to find out, I found out.

She's a big teaser, she even ironed me first,

She's a big teaser, she even ironed me first now

She was a day skirter, a one-day fickle schmo.

It took me no time to find out, I found out.

Said it was faith, but . . . she only hated her legs,

Said it was faith, but . . .she only hated her legs now

She was a day skirter, a one-day fickle schmo.

Day skirter

Day skirter yeah

Day skirter

Day skirter yeah

Day skirter

Watch how she contradicts herself:

Lori:

Lori:

I told Ken the real reason I decided to wear skirts was because my skin looked so bad.

Now watch this!

Lori:

I don't base any of my behavior on a "movement." I base it upon the Word of God and my convictions! Some women are very convicted about wearing dresses and some are not just as the verse I quoted above.

This could have been summed up in one sentence: 'Saturday, I decided to wear a skirt.'

Some of these women are just so full of themselves

From fb:

I started eating skirts one day when no matter what I wrote my hubby said it was causing men to stumble. I have a woman's shape, so he said wheni wow my jeans or dress pants it was causing men to look at my rear. Being short, I could only find really tight or really baggy pants. So, one day I started wearing skirts. I son realized my daughter had the same problem I have and soi had her start wearing skirts also. We did a lot of studying on the subject and found that people treat you work more respect, and we've gotten many compliments form people who say we look like real ladies. Also after doing a lot of reading on the subject realized that universally skirts and dresses are known today as being women's clothing. Just look at the bathroom stalks men's has a figure with pants and ladies has one with a dress. Just some food for thought. We don't condemn any one that doesn't do this, but after a long journey have been convicted of it by God as well. I do wear shorts and yoga pants at home, but when I go out I don't want to cause men to stumble when they are walking behind me. (Cause the front wouldn't cause them to stumble that's for sure lol)

If this isn't a 'sin issue,' I don't understand where 'conviction' comes in. Isn't 'conviction' something to do with the Holy Spirit telling you what you should or should not be doing? Why would the HS convict some women to wear skirts only and not others?

I sometimes get a headache trying to figure out fundies.
