The Rebelution's Modesty Survey

Ok. The modesty survey link is straight to the site. The photos I put up however, are random images from google or whatever, NOT from the site. Oddly enough, there are no pictorial examples on the Harris' website. Would you still like me to tinypic future images?

I know about not directly linking to fundy blogs and such. I sort of forgot about applying it to this, since it isn't a blog or a message board.

The RANDOM IMAGE is exactly the problem. These images are hosted on a server, and the owner of the site pays for it, no matter what website you linked it from (if a link is visited, it costs bandwith, and bandwith has to be payed for). Always upload pics via tinypics or your own webspace, never hotlink, no matter the source. It is like stealing.

I was editing my post while Cran was posting. What she said.

Basically, every image on the internet (like the lady in the cute outfit) is being hosted somewhere - someone is paying to make that file viewable (like maybe a clothing store website). When you make the image viewable here, like in your first post, it's called hotlinking - now, the server wherever the picture is coming from is doing extra work to make it viewable here as well as on the original site, so therefore it's like stealing money from whoever pays to display it.

Two ways to do this legit: one, just post a link to the image, not the image itself. Two, save the image onto your own computer, and then host it yourself on a free hosting site like photobucket.

Should I go back and edit the picture source, or is the damage done?

You can fix it if you save and host the pics elsewhere and remove the original links.

I had to laugh at this one. It's less offensive/bossy/judgemental, but really? I'm not supposed to bend over now?

Girls: Please don't bend over towards us, or away from us. Please kneel down, or modestly crouch if you need to reach something. Bending reveals an attitude of carelessness and hastiness. A girl who makes the effort to kneel to attend to something draws good attention to herself because it shows her careful, and sincere attention to what she is doing.

Ooh. Girls are admonished to either never lift their skirts above their knees (like when climbing or other situations that require it), or ask the guys to turn away.

Um, I'm sure I'd be way more of a temptation saying 'guys, turn around because I have to lift up my skirt' then just casually lifting it.

Just so we're clear here, while it technically is stealing, one mistake is not worth getting heart palpitations over. It's not even on par with posting an mp3 of a song. It's like accidentally walking out of a grocery store with one Brach's candy unpaid for - not really worth driving all the way back, but don't do it again.

The responses to "If you could say one thing to your sisters in Christ about modesty, what would it be?" are just, funny to me

Please don’t take modesty lightly. As your brother in Christ I value the relationship that I will have with my wife someday. When I am tempted because of you I lose a part of myself that I am trying to save for her. When I’m tempted because of you I become that much more accepting of the perversions in the world. When you remain pure and modest, my life is made so much easier. Instead of watching to ensure that I don’t sin I can focus on you as a person and fellow follower of Christ. I appreciate modesty more than you’ll ever know. Please, show respect of yourself and of me and be modest.

YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA! :violin:

That response sounded basically like 'look, do my self-control for me or I'll sin and give away part of my heart that I'll NEVER GET BACK!!1'

And it's 'respect TO yourself', not 'of'.

My mother and I have always had... differences of opinion about modesty. Last year she sent me this link to the modesty survey. Some of this I get, but some of it makes me really mad, like many of the comments made by the boys. For example, comments on questions about how important modesty is in a future wife or attitudes toward women who purposefully do not meet their standards of modesty include things like this:

and this

As if respect and admiration from guys should be what you are living for anyway!

If I could chug a yard of ale without puking over myself I would get "respect and admiration from guys."...

Haha, one guy's response to 'outfits that while not inherently sexual, carry connotations of sexiness (ie Britney Spears schoolgirl outfits) are immodest yes/no/maybe so' is

My first question is: "Why did you watch the Britney Spears music video?" I could associate a certain kind of car with sex provided that I looked at enough "low rider" magazines. "Garbage in, Garbage out." What a guy puts in his head will dictate what a guy does. Thoughts are dictated by ones worldview, thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become a lifestyle, a lifestyle dictates our worldview.I don't think banning a school uniform (or any other outfit) is going to help this problem.

In response to miniskirts

You cannot wear one without a guy seeing down it, even with your legs crossed, when sitting down. Even when you are standing it is too revealing.

Yes, I can. The trick is to not be in a room full of pervs who will not angel themselves to look up my skirt even when I'm sitting down with my legs crossed. Magic isn't it!

I feel a need to post this on every thread about The Rebelution's Survey. At one point they had a question asking if men were bothered by family members who dressed immodestly. Some of the answers were shocking. If I remember correctly, one young man claimed that his mother could tempt him. After we discussed it on the old thread, the question was removed from their site.

Removing an embarrasing question shows from a public survey that the Harris brothers and their family aren't really interested in modesty. They want to push an agenda and don't mind being dishonest to win people.

The bottom of my right foot must be defrauding because I usually do an arabesque when I bend down to get something.

This makes me want to bend over away from him and then cut a fart.

I started reading the comments but after I'd read a couple of pages the judgmentalism and misogyny started makinjg me ill. I don't want to hang around guys like that, I sure as hell don't want to impress them, I'd rather leap of a cliff than marry any of them, they sound like the kind of lustful little prig that dresses his submissive wife in a frumper and stays up late at night surfing porn.

I think if I met these men I'd dress like a harlot to piss them off on purpose. No I don't care if they don't court me I really don't care. Also they need self control if they can't see a woman wearing everyday clothes. Its not a womans job to make supressing urges easy for you because they sure don't make it easy for us as women. As a matter of fact no one trys to cater make it easier for us to control ourselves.

I don't follow.

Debrand is referring to the fact that in the original "survey" these guys said that even their sisters and mothers could defraud them by "immodest" dressing . After we snarked on that here at FJ, those remarks disappeared from their site.

The "modesty survey" pisses me off for any number of reasons, but my biggest issue today is the assumption that women's behavior (bending down, etc.) needs to be moderated. Um, if I just need to pick something up off the floor, I'm not thinking about the state of your c*ck. Just saying. Wouldn't it be somewhat immodest of me to think about men's genitals all the time? Yeah.

The other thing is that I think that survey "proved" that some men are attracted to some women. And that they find some types of clothing appealing. I'm SHOCKED by this revelation, SHOCKED, I tell you.

I wouldn't do that, and here's why. The women who dress like this are the object of loathing for these guys--yes, they lust but they also loathe. That's a nice rape-fueling combo there. Also, I don't want their opinions to dictate how I dress either way. I don't want these guys' attention at ALL.

Although I still want to fart in their general direction.

These men who are so concerned about being defrauded by what they see women wearing or not wearing should pay heed to words of Jesus in Matthew 18:9:

And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

There, problem solved.
